Holmstrom OUT for Game 1

That would be a scary line, but I think it waters down the 2nd line alittle too much. Either Calder or Cleary would be fine on the top line. They hustle, control the puck well, dig in the corners, and are more than willing to give, (or take) a big hit. Cleary IMO is the better finisher, so I'd give him the nod.

Scrap Schneids, put Quincey back in already. The guy can't block a shot for his life :hehe:

Looks like Quincey will get the nod regardless, since Lebda is not playing in game one :( ...I have confidence in Quincey though.

Cleary definitely deserves a shot on the first line. That said, the Cleary/Malts/Drapes line has really been clicking. I don't think I'd want to touch that line.

I read somewhere on LGW that it was Kopecky skating with Hank and Pav in practice. Rex should take the place of Homer in the lineup, I don't like Sammy with the eurotwins. He shoots too much, I think it would hamper their flow.

Putting Calder with the twins wouldn't be a bad idea to get him going, he could provide the same protection for them that Cleary could.

There is also the option of splitting them up for a game. I'm not in favor of this, but it would create hell in matchups for Ronnie Wilson.

But Mr. Wilson doesn't worry about matchups:

They'll pick out a matchup that they think will help them and we've got four lines we'll be rolling and it's going to be hard for them to check all of them.''

I don't buy that for a second. I don't think San Jose can ride it's 3rd and 4th line against Detroit. He is going to need to worry about that Nick-Joey matchup. If Nick shuts Joey down, we shut the Sharks down. As Joey goes, so gothe Sharks.

Wilson is a very smart guy. If San Jose isn't worried about matchups and line combos, getting the right guys out there in the right situation, then why have a coach? If it's Wilsons plan to 'just roll 4 lines' then he can watch from the press box as he wouldn't be needed on the bench.

What he said is nothing more than an effort to build confidence in his players, and cause the Detroit players to question themselves.

I agree with not breaking up the Cleary/Maltby/Draper line. It's been really solid. I also think Betuzzi/Lang/Franzen is starting to click so to me putting Calder up there for a try might make sense, but he has seemed invisible in the games I have watched (when he was in the line up).

Calder practiced on the 1st line today, so he'll in all likely hood play there.

!!!!! that would be GREAT! :D

It's fitting to because he'd make a good subsitute for Homer. Drives to the net, is great in corners, can cycle the puck.. etc..

Here is a thought. Why not Flip? Every time he plays with Pav and Hank, he gets into great scoring position, and gets chances. I like that line, Babs has used it in the past, even a few time against Calgary. Flip can skate with them, and it would create a totally different look to the line.

Who's going to center the 4th line in that case?

Homer will sit Game #1 at least with Huds taking his spot; not necessarily on the top line though. Also, it seems Lebda will not play tomorrow although he is walking around without crutches and hoped to skate today. Good news is Kronwall is getting close, but will likely not play until the Conference finals at the least.

Hopes Leb and Homer get back quick. We do need our fill roster to go all the way. We'll hol dthe gates in their absense, but it'll be nice to see them back

Really makes me wonder how the NHL didnt give a suspension for the pnuch on Lebda though. I know, its over and done with, we won the series, but still, out 2 games now with a concusion, just frustrating I suppose.

If Lang's line wasn't finally going, I wouldn't be concerned about Holmstrom's injury so much.

Do you put Bertuzzi to the top line at the expense of breaking up some recent solid chemistry between Lang/Franzen/Bertuzzi?

Do you put Franzen back on the fourth line with Flipper when they had success early those first two games?

Do you just roll the dice and put Hudler on the top line, and keep all other lines intact? Call me crazy, but I think that's worth a shot. The current Grind Line should not even be breathed on, Lang's current line is good, and Flipper can do his thing on the 4th line with Calder and Samuelsson.

Just a thought...

What if we put Huds with Dats and Hank? I'm not sure I ever seen that combo play a game together, but I think Huds would be effective with them. Huds knows how to work without the puck, but defensively I wouldn't want that combo if we were matching our top line vs. theres. If indeed we are going to continue to play our number 1 against theres, then I think you gotta put Bert with Pav and Hank. Anyways, think if there going to put there '' grind '' against our skill Huds will get that slot shot he loves so much when Hank and Dats are getting there respected attention in the off. zone

I'm not happy with the prospect of putting Sammy anywhere in the neighborhood of the 1st or 2nd line.

Either

Z - Dats - Franz

Calds - Lang - Bert

or

Z - Dats - Bert

Calds - Lang - Huds

I think Homer should use a visor. Now he and the team is paying the price not using it.

as mentioned before i believe the stick hit him at an angle where the visor wouldnt have helped...
