OsGOD 3 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 (edited) You can sneak it in. Fans will go nutz, Al will swing it around his head. you will get kicked out.... Is it worth it? For the rest of us remaining in our overpriced seats... SURE IS... for you, maybe not so much. But I do look forward to seeing it tonight and I will look at my row mates and say, "hey i know that guy/gal!" Edited April 26, 2007 by OsGOD
Wingtastic 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 I was at game one against Calgary and someone threw a large octopi on the ice with about 3 minutes left to go in the game, I watched and he wasn't kicked out. Just wait for the right time and throw it, like during a tv timeout. You'll remember that forever!

I beleive it was game 2 and this happened the guy was waving his hand in celebration and then the JLA Secret Service gathered around him and escorted him out of the arena part. Maybe they didn't kick him out, but the did escort him into the concourse area. Edited April 26, 2007 by OsGOD
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 Ill be at the game tonight to so I better see that Octopus flying lol. Like others said wait for a tv timeout. They are probably more lenient if its not when it would delay the game to pick it up.
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 Just wait untill the end oof the game(if the wings are winning of course) make sure you aim for the Sharks bench.
shadow47 1 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 This whole octopus connection has gotten WAY out of hand. Merchandise, a glowing, sneering giant octopus hanging over the ice? An octopus on a Wing's goalie mask? Why can't fans throw plush or plastic octopi a la Panthers '96? Throwing dead mollusks at your heroes cannot be considered worship--frankly it is extremely overrated/outdated. And disgusting. Personally I would hate to be on the ice and see that kind of thing happening. And before people argue TRADITION there are some pretty heinous things done in the name of it so that's not a solid argument.

SoupGuru 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 How exactly are you going to get those into the building? I've always wondered that. Doesn't it stink? Are you bringing a ton of wetnaps too? What are the mechanics involved here?

I think it's a great tradition and it definately gets me pumped when I see one on the ice- especially after a nice goal. Hopefully the fine tradition lives on. I say throw it man, I'll be watching for it!

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 Hockey is a game with rich in traditions compared to the other major sports (ie cup raising, handshaking at the end of a series, good stuff like that). It's funny how stupid love affair with a rat in 96 led to the decline of truly one the best traditions in hockey.
Hiei 192 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 you have to boil it before game time, so the smell is dulled/removed

Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 How exactly are you going to get those into the building? I've always wondered that. Doesn't it stink? Are you bringing a ton of wetnaps too? What are the mechanics involved here? I read somewhere about how to do this. Boiling it DOES reduce the smell, but it also shrivels it up and its not so floppy. Apparently the best way is to put a layer of saran wrap around your abdomen, put the octopus against your stomach, and then put another layer of saran wrap around that. This holds it in and keeps it pretty tight against your chest. If you can handle the cold icky feeling for most of the game, i think this is the way to go, then when you are ready to throw, you can easily tear through the saran wrap to get it out. I'd say do it near the end when the wings are winning, that way you wont miss much. Just pick your time wisely, maybe if you throw it after a goal when the whole place is going nuts the confusion will be too much for the JLA Secret Service. Except the Wings MUST be winning or tied when the aquatic beasty is tossed. So, best bet is right before the game (After the anthem), or during the first TV timeout. However, if the Wings are winning after 59 minutes, that is the BEST time. Edited April 26, 2007 by Wings_Dynasty
