You guys see every single poll out of wack with the order yet you ALL have to pick on Ozzie out of the bunch. Typical.

Everyone who said something about Ozzie being too high was giving an example. When you give an example, the idea is to relate to your audience. This is Let's Go WINGSanyone else see where I am going with that?

We know the truth ;)

Which is that Ozzie *actually* belongs in the top 10

You are right, he does belong in the top 10. But only if the list is 'Top Ten Goalies Who Wore Number 30 For The Detroit Red Wings Between 1989 And 2007', even at that, he would be a squeaker at 10.

Classy you are. This isn't a bashing thread. Get over it.

I pointed him out because, in my opinion, he is the one who most blatantly doesn't belong.

Everybody needs to get over themselves with these rankings personally whether you are pro-Ozzie or pro-Hasek or anti-Osgood or whatever else.

Osgood is #12. Big deal.

Hasek is #4. Whoopee.

All of these players have accomplished a lot and are great in their own right and their own careers, these ranking, whether you are 1st or 50th, doesn't change that. These rankings don't mean ANYTHING when push comes to shove. Can we please just leave it at that?

No, we can't. Some of us like talking about this stuff. We know it doesn't prove anything. But it's a way to express your opinion about players, and some of us like that. Nobody is forcing you to read or participate in these discussions.

Hell I'm not stopping anybody from talking about this stuff, but there's absolutely no point to get all up in arms in a thread like this if your guy is ranked lower than you think, because in the grand scheme of things these rankings still mean NOTHING.

Ok, I actually agree with you there. It's fun to talk about, but getting all worked up over it is pretty silly.

All righty, let me rephrase a bit since my two posts there came by pretty harsh.

I still stand by that these rankings don't mean much in the grand scheme of things and I'll leave it at that...

Debate away on who should/shouldn't be in the rankings all you want...

but...

Don't let somebody else's posts or perceived "bashes" (when in actuality they probably aren't) get you all worked up due to rankings that you, I, or Grandma Snookie can draw up. These rankings don't make any of the players any better/worse than they really are.

I don't think these polls are really so fair to Hasek; I think he'd be FAR higher up on them had he on his resume the accolades that the other 3 mentioned here have. He has only 1 Cup; realistically, he carried Buffalo on his back for the better part of a decade and nearly took them all the way several times. He was as close to a one-man team as anyone has been in our lifetime. Even Gretzky called him the best at one point. Meanwhile, Brodeur, Sawchuck and Roy always had wonderful teams playing in front of them.

1) Yzerman was more of a one-man team than Hasek was.

2) Roy and Brodeur always had great teams, but not Sawchuk. Sawchuk was in the bottom third of the league several times. Brodeur and Roy have each missed the postseason exactly once, and each time it was within two seasons of a Cup victory with that same team and most of the same players.

Anyone notice this?

12. Osgood Chris 7.46 + 4

Dom in his prime? In Buffallo?

Anyone notice this?

Uh, yea. Did you read the thread? lol

Brodeur is overrated.

I was thinking the same thing.

According to this poll, Ozzie is better than Mike Richter, Mike Vernon, Ron Hextall, Bernie Parent, and Billy Smith, just to name a few. That's ridiculous.

Sounds pretty right on 3 of 5. As far as regular season goes, make that 4 of 5.

Clearly offsides made a joke about Ozzie being in the top 10, I followed suit. What's the problem?

You thought that was a joke?

That is the funniest thing I've read on here. lol

Here's an interesting read regarding this topic:

http://members.shaw.ca/hbtn/player_study/goalie_monitor.htm

As far as I can tell, these numbers are as of 2005. This would mean 28th-ranked Chris Osgood's score right now would be 822, assuming you count OTL as losses for the calculation, and 833 if you count them as ties. Hasek's score would be 3008 or 3018 depending on how OTLs factor.

That is truly a fascinating website... looks like I've got some reading to do.

I already bled my eyes out from some of the explanations of what this or that created statistic meant.

Maybe there's some worthwhile ingenuity on it if I don't read it at 4am. When it gets late in the night, I screen out "crap that could be stated much more simply and meaningfully but isn't". <--- Crankiness without a doubt.

Hah, I don't know how I could have overlooked them, especially Vezina! Personally, I'd place Dom in the top 20-25 of all-time, no higher.

i think i lost hockey i.q. points by reading that post,.....do your research before you post something that incredibly naive.

name another goalie who has more than one hart, don't hurt yourself it's a short list.
