I really don't see how someone can justify the claim that the Ducks will easily take this series. Let's look at some of the more popular arguments:

"The Ducks are bigger, younger, and more physical"

That may be true, but you know what? So were the Flames and Sharks. Some Ducks fans will respond, "Yeah, but we're tougher," to which I say, "Bulls***." The Ducks have, IMO, done nothing to elevate their physical game above that of those two clubs. The Sharks play a meaner game and they're the biggest, youngest team in the NHL. And what happened? The Wings threw that kind of fast, hard-hitting game right back in the Sharks' collective face, just as they did with the Flames. More than not backing down, this Wings team will take the fight to you.

"Detroit's blueline is battered"

True enough, but so far the team has been able to compensate. The proof? Holding the Sharks' "overwhelming" offense to one goal in the final two games. Go figure.

"The Ducks are deep"

Again, that may very well be true, but the Wings can match it. On D, the Ducks have two studs, one good anchor, and...some other guys. Lidstrom, Markov, Chelios, and co. may not strike fear into the hearts of opposition the way Chrissy and Scott do, but the Wings' blueline is, I think, stronger overall. Plus, we've seen a great team commitment to D in recent games, and I don't imagine that will let up.

On offense, the Ducks have some guys who can put the puck in the net, particularly Selanne, who will undoubtedly cause problems for us because he always does. Beyond the top three or four forwards, though, I don't see much in the way of overwhelming depth, especially if everyone's all excited about getting Marchant back so they can ice four whole lines!!! Getting significant contributions from all four lines has been the Wings' bread and butter for a long time, and these playoffs are no exception; our primary goal-scorers have delivered, and when they've faltered, we've been able to get production from the other lines. With the rise of Daniel Cleary, the checking line is arguably the most dangerous it's been in years, and with young guys like Franzen and Filpulla stepping up in a big way and playing like they've been Wings for a decade, there's no reason why the Ducks shouldn't be fearing our depth, rather than the other way around.

As for the goalie situation -- Giggy is great, no doubt, but Hasek has been playing out of his mind. Understandably, it's tempting to look at Hasek's age and scoff. But really, if I had watched the last two games of the Sharks series without knowing his age, I would think he's still in his prime years.

Bottom line: Wings have shown they can overcome any challenge, and the Ducks haven't. Overbearing physicality? Flames and Sharks -- Wngs triumphed. Solid team D? Flames and Sharks -- Wings triumphed. Speed? Flames and Sharks -- Wings triumphed. Big-time goal-scorers? Iginla, Thornton, and Cheechoo -- Wings triumphed.

The 'nucks and Wild? Not exactly daunting opposition.

This is to say, it's the Ducks who have something to prove in this series. All of the talk about how the Wings need to respond to the Ducks' ____ is the result of looking at the matchup on paper and doing some half-assed armchair analysis. I'm very much looking forward to a tightly-played, but surprisingly short series in the Wings' favor.

Bandwagon is right. One good season and they think their a dynasty now. What will happen next year if the Ducks missed the playoffs? Oh that's right, the arena would be empty and nobody would go. I mean I personally would find it hard to back a team whose history reads "Started as a promotional gimmick,,,,".

I don't know anything about Ducks fans other than they must all sell their tickets to Wings fans when Detroit comes to town

However, I do know a little something about their team.

When you can roll Niedermayer and Pronger the ENTIRE game, the opposing team is going to have problems. With Pronger quarterbacking the power play, the team is a threat to score every time they go a man up. While I hate the guy, (I'll never forgive him for taking advantage of the lack enforcement regarding pad size during the 03 playoffs, and then actually crying when the Conn Smythe trophy was handed to him), JSG is playing solid again.

Up front, this is ANOTHER big team. As far as skill goes, they have Selanne and McDonald as their best players, followed by Getzlaf, Kunitz and Penner.

Make no mistake, if there is a team built to take our beloved Wings out of the playoffs, it is this one, and the odds are good this one will go the distance. With that said, have the Wings not had previous success in the playoffs against a young, big team built by Brian Burke? *Cough*, Vancouver, *Cough*.

Their two goalies are 1 and 2 on the ALL TIME LIST for shutout streaks in playoff history. Giguere is 10-1 in playoff OTs recording some of those in an 03 sweep of your Wings.

Face it, the Duck is the tea the Wings and their fans WISH they could be. They aren't full of soft euros. They don't have a flitty unpredictable goalie and they beat the crap out of everyone they see.

I've listened to this "disney" crap for 13 years. Face it. The Duck has been the best playoff team over the last 4 years. They have the best regular season record over the last year and a half. They got this far last year WITHOUT Pronger.

And they beat 2 100 point teams in a total of 10 games. Talk all you want about those being teams with "only a goalie" nobody was saying that as they piled up 100 point seasons. No one said it until the Duck started beating them .. getting 1 goal leads then CRUSHING them in back-to - back series.

Don't crow over beating SJ. The Ducks beat those underachievers all season long, took the regular season series and the Division title.

This goalie is one of the best in the biz and he's got plenty of hardware to prove it. I'll take the Wings history over Walt's team. Our roster has a good # of cup winners on it, I think the statement should be reversed about who wants to be who.

Nobody cares who won the most games or had the best winning percentage in the playoffs all that matters is who raised the cup and it wasnt the ducks so stop kidding yourself that you were the best cuz you werent the teams who have won the last 4 years were the best of those years.
