From a newspaper article about a fellow named Xavier Alvarez, who falsely claimed to have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor: The appeals court’s ruling said Alvarez made a “hobby of lying about himself.” It said he claimed to have rescued the American ambassador to Iran in 1979 during an Iranian student takeover of the U.S. Embassy, and that he had passed himself off as a Vietnam combat helicopter pilot and a member of the Detroit Red Wings hockey team.
