Hes a bum now.

NO MORE NOSTALGIA

Thank You!

What Fedorov did for this team in the past will never be forgotten but let it go, he isn't coming back. let it go, he WAS great yes but, lets face it, he has peaked, its only downhill from here.

Reem, you've been warned. One more infraction and it's 7 days. ;)

But really -- you pinpointed my irritation perfectly -- one comment about someone else, rather than someone else's point or topic, and an entire thread is derailed. I think it's most important on a board of this scale that returning members who post quite a bit have a knowledge of hockey and can get their view across without much confusion. And beyond that -- pet peeve or not -- certain members who are critical of others -- the individual topics aren't the place to discuss each other's typing. If one needs clarification, that's one thing, but...

Time to get back to the topic. Glad to see it's headed there.

Personally, when I see an article like this, I like to see who they mention as likely to return. Schneider, Bert, etc. No Markov or Lang. It's such a foregone conclusion that there's going to be a gap where Lang was with about five guys fighting for the spot as 5th and 6th forward.

Pronger gets a game suspension for a teeny eensy lil forearm check, and all HC gets is SEVEN DAYS for a grammatical major?

NHL needs to review this one. Just sayin'. :sly:

Back OT-- whatever happened to it, thought we were talking about Draper's POV, not Fedorov's? Or the Sens?

Draper is no whinging, ehm err, kitten. He's a vital part of this team, on and off the ice, and I lend much credence to what he has to say precisely because of that.

Draper sounds hungry. I would be too. I will NEVER, NEVER forget that goal number 8 scored on us. That will forever be ingrained in my memory. Holy crap. I've gone and put myself in shock again.

Gotta love that. And I totally agree with him. Hopefully getting 2 wins away from the Stanley Cup finals makes our guys that much more prepared for next year. Im sure our desire will be that much greater as well.

...what else is he gonna say? "Gee, I am so glad we got eliminated! We played hard, but I sure am happy we didn't win the Cup." Hey Draper, maybe actually get a couple of shots on net instead of shooting the puck nine miles wide everytime and we could have possibly been in the Finals again. One power play goal is all you needed, one goal. One power play goal and game 5 is ours and guess what else? One power play goal in game 6 and we win that one too!

Any offense from Draper is a bonus, we all know he is a shut-down forward/winger.

And for people who seem to find a hobby out of finding fault with one's grammar or typing when it is perfectly fine for a sports forum, get over it please.

Well, we all believe that every next year will be the year of the Red Wings. That said, next year definitely does look sweet :D

I agree, but at the same time there will be way moer expectations on them. I hope they can shoulder that.

I also wanted to agree with those that pointed out how different the wings sound from this years knockout. In years past it was the same old cliche's they'd throw at you, making you believe that they didn't believe they had a good enough team. But this year they're genuinly pissed because they know how hard it is to get back in that situation.

They were up 1-0 and on the verge of being up 3 games to 2 in the WCF and they blew it. That broke their back. If they win that game I truly believe we win in Anaheim in game 6. And after watching how horribly inexperienced the Sens look I think the Wings would have swept them. No question.

But those are the breaks and you have to have luck to make it all the way. Look at some of the lucky bounces the Ducks have gotten on the way to the Cup. I'm not saying that in a bad way as Detroit got quite a few themselves when they won in years past. But I can't remember the last team that won the Cup with such massive injuries that the Wings suffered. If they can stay relatively healthy next year and Hasek comes back, they'll have a great chance at it.

Like Drapes said, their young players are only getting better and if a healthy Bert resigns and we can sign another gritty forward to replace Lang and Calder I think we'll be right there.

With the cap rising to $52M I would hope the Wings could squeeze in a Hartnell or Smyth.

I am a little more pessimistic about next year than some of you guys.

Mainly because of goaltending. I feel like this was an exceptional year for Hasek, due to the fact that he stayed healthy. It's alot to expect that he will be healthy again next year. IF he even comes back.

That being said, Detroit can only contiue to get better up front with the emergence of guys like Cleary, Franzen, and Filpulla. Add to that the continued improvement of Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Holmstom.

A healthy Bertuzzi (if he resigns), another top six forward, and a succesful debut from Grigorenko could put this team over the top as far as forwards go. Plus, there should be no dead weight on this years team (bye Lang)

BUT what happens on defence and in goal in 07-08 will have a big say in how strong a contenteder the Wings will be.

When the Wings lost I was crushed, I thought to that this would be one of those "Years" but as someone said the better team doesn't always win. We proved everyone wrong by beating The supposed "Toughest" team in the league that was supposed to give us all this trouble. Then We beat the Biggest anf Fastest and Youngest team that everyone thought was a cup contender. Then we outplayed and should have beat the "BEST" team but had a few bad breaks and didn't get the bounces like in the first 2 serires... Tough break for the boys but they wull come back even harder and more furious than ever and be hungry as hell.

WINGS 2008!!!!!!

I too am of the belief that this season bodes well for us. If we can get Dom back, and the rest of the people we want then I see us making a serious run for the Cup again.

I can't wait for mid-September!

It truly is amazing how many discussions are :offtopic: in this thread, and somehow all running at the same time.

In a concerted effort to bring this back to the topic of the thread: I thought that the article was great! I can't argue with a single thing that Drapes said. I would love to see Hasek and Bertuzzi back next year, and if we can stay healthy we can make a stronger run at the Cup!!

Resigning Bert and possably Smyth and a good showing from Grigs our forwards will be most bestest and get schneids back with one of the young d-men stepping in would make our blue like more greater and if Dom comes back and has a simliar year it would be even gooder!!!!

I believe the Wings were the best team in the playoffs. Easily. However, a team cannot easily weather the loss of two top defensemen, plus walking injuries to several other key players (amongst them our best forward and best defensemen). Etc. When added to that, the fact that we had the hardest route to the WCF of any team in the league didn't really help, though without the injuries I think we certainly would have smashed the Ducks.

And for goodness` sake, stop making that particular grammatical error!

there are a number of things it takes to win the cup one of them is luck

after seeing how lame the sens are playing in the scf, why wouldn't drapes be pissed? i'm sure that last 47 seconds in game 5 will haunt them all summer (it still sours my stomach when i think about it). we win that game and we should be planning a parade instead of getting tee times. stupid freakin' 47 seconds.

See where the Wings would be in the last decade without Fedorov ;)

and where would sergei be the last decade without the wings? i think the wings has had much more success without fedorov than fedorov has without the wings.

Drapes

The Wings are really distraught about this post season and it shows. First Chelios last week on the radio..and now Drapes expressing how he truly feels. I agree with EVERY little thing he said, and I think in the end this is going to make the entire Wings team even closer *if that is even possible?* and make them want to win it even more next season. Believe me when I say 2008 is the year of the Wings.

Hopefully they use this to their advantage next season . They done us proud with what they achieved this season , but they'll probable think the same as us that they were good enough to win the Cup, and were extreamly unlucky not to be at least contender's in the Final's.
