Are you suggesting Samuelsson is just as good as Schneider in that respect? Because if that's what you're saying...coke-bottle glasses might be a good near-future investment. Schneider scored TWO powerplays goals in the regular season, and here you are acting like its some sure bet that he wouldve gotten a few against Anaheim. How the hell can you assume that? I say Giguere wouldve stopped his shots. Also, lets keep in mind that during the year Matt had his fair share of defensive gaffs, I can just as easily make the claim that it couldve happened again and Anaheim gets a goal off it. And what about the lame ass holding call with 4 minutes left on Joe Motzko in game 5? That was just as bad as the one on Datsyuk, yet nobody ever mentions it. That was a penalty at a crucial time for Anaheim. The Datsyuk penalty was more than likely a makeup call for that garbage one. Any of your friends measure them?..Surely somebody, anybody on an opposing team would notice that they were illegal..But you know better than anyone else...The fact that he wasn't penalized for his equipment leads me to one of two conclusions..1) His pads are well within the legal limits as specified by the NHL..or 2) Your beloved Red Wings were too stupid to recognize illegal pads and call the Ducks on it...Surely the Wings could have used another power play....AND NOT SCORE on it.. The Datsyuk penalty was more than likely a makeup call for that garbage one. that was clearly a penalty...he held him right into the boards!! practically bair hugged him...but the datsyuk one was a text book interference call also. should it have been called at that stage of the game? prolly not, but was it...yes. datsyuk shouldnt do stupid s*** liek that, that late in a game and give the ref a chance to call it. no clue why he'd try to skate and bump him when he wasnt even in the play. it was a weak call tho. As any blood and flesh human being, those calls cursed the Wings and took the moral right out of the Dominant Detroit Red Wings team... While the refs proceeded to hand the Ducks Lord Stanly. Bettman's plan is in motion. One way or another... NHL will be marketed in SoCal! (clearly, decided from officiating) So tell me, do duck fans really feel happy that a cup was given to their team? I mean, it can't feel rewarding, can it? So will the Refs names be etched on the cup too? They played hard to give the Ducks the cup! Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted June 8, 2007 Yeah, but the fact remains is they will likely either lose Giguere this summer, or be forced to give up a significant amount of depth to preserve the remainder. They only beat the Wings this year because the Wings were missing two of their top three defensemen. Had the Wings had Schneider for the conference finals, the Wings are the Cup champions because their power play would have been much more potent. Anaheim also stayed basically injury-free through the playoffs. The Wings had some seasons where the Cup was a very real possibility if not for key injuries; this season, 1999, and 2001 come to mind as notable examples where an injury free playoff would have resulted in the Wings with a very strong chance at the Cup. Woulda, coulda, shoulda eva. Kunitz is an integral part of the MacDonald line with Selanne and they didn't have him and beat us. Pronger misses a game and they beat us. Face it, it was a close series but they worked harder and in turn made their own luck. Yes, we outworked them at times but didn't cash it in. They scored when they needed to. We didn't for long stretches and played alot of catch up hockey. They were better than us and I don't know how you can say for certain that had Schneider been there we would've beaten them. Plus, Kronwall was not playing all that well anyway and if the 2 of them were in the lineup we may not have gotten the stellar performances we did out of Lilja and Chelios.
