Flip-check 6 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 http://bluejackets.nhl.com/team/app/?servi...rticleid=307400 I read about it sometime middle of May, but the bottom line: it'll suck for some teams, it'll be an improvement on web design for others. Maybe it'll be a great idea across the board and it'll make grabbing the info you want all the easier. But "bostonbruins dot com" is already gone, so I'm wondering if that's how it's gonna go down, or what. I hope not, because that'd be so lame.
Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 If they all are like the Blue Jackets site (a carbon copy of the nhl.com site) it will be pretty monotonous.. but maybe that's the idea.
Izzy24 44 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 I don't see how it couldn't be an improvement for detroitredwings.com.
joshy207 156 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 I don't see how it couldn't be an improvement for detroitredwings.com. Yeah, that site is utterly useless. Perfectly in line with the club's PR. MLB and NBA teams use league-hosted websites, and I'm assuming NFL teams do also.
ltgator333 3 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 So does that mean that the teams HAVE to pull down their non-nhl.com hosted sites?
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 I don't see how it couldn't be an improvement for detroitredwings.com. I know. The Wings official site is awful. It's hardly ever kept up to date, and really, it has nothing on it. It would be nice to see a new, better run site put in it's place. Yeah, that site is utterly useless. Perfectly in line with the club's PR. Well said.
Shockwave180 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) Generally, I dislike the template sites that MLB and the NBA have implemented. I loved the maverick days of the mid-to-late nineties, when you never knew what you were gonna get from team to team. Best example: In 1999, the Yankees' official homepage had a self-starting MIDI of Bob Shepherd saying, "Welcome...to the official website...of the New York Yankees." As dated as it is classic. But as you've already said, the Wings official site has always been one of the worst designed, least informative, and seldomly updated in pro sports. In fact, I think it's one of the main contributing reasons LGW became so popular in the first place. Matt's always been running laps around the Wings' "official" webmasters. Goulet! 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 The organization needs to make Matt the All Powerful Grand Poobah and Chief Detractor Pimp Slapper In-Charge of the "new" homepage. Get it done Mike.

drwforever 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 Well, that's an icky layout and CSS. Too busy. Another bright idea of Bettman's to have all the teams exactly alike in every way. Pretty soon they'll all have to use the same team colors too.

Matt 1,048 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 Well, to play devil's advocate nothing has really happened HERE over the last two years, either. (Outside of updates to the message board.) A few select members have seen what's been getting worked on since the Red Wings were knocked out a few weeks ago (since working on the new site during the playoff run was impossible). It has come a LONG way in just those two weeks or so. Outside of a couple of server updates and some fine-tuning on some layout/css work, this thing will FINALLY be flying during the summer. I've got some self-imposed targets set for it to go live (yeah, like I haven't said THAT before), and they should be met this time around... OH! And a quick "THANK YOU" to the regular visitors here -- especially the Community Supporters. Because of you guys I have been really able to invest in some rather hefty upgrades and back-end database management stuff that should make the coming seasons even better here. I can't wait! (Pretty soon there will be an open call for writers/bloggers that want to be featured/hosted here, too.)

The site may have not been updated as quickly as you had wished Matt but there's a huge thing that separates LGW and Detroitredwings.com - we're all family. We meet, go to games. talk on IM, you don't get that on detroitredwings.com and you won't ever... LGW is the first site I check when I want UP to the second hockey information. Even if there's no article posted on the front page (as you will soon have) someone's posted a thread on the forum and that's good enough for me. It's too bad we couldn't just reroute everyone from detroitredwings.com to LGW.com Not to mention, this is as live as a site can be with information due to member activity without the fancy updates Edited June 9, 2007 by VladyIBELIEVE16

I've come to think of LGW as the Drudge Report, AP Wire, and cable news all rolled into one of the NHL. (Don't get all bent out of shape about me comparing this place to Drudge's joint. It is a comparison [and compliment] regarding the speed with which stories/information appear - nothing at all to do with politics.)

Matt this site is still updated even if it is under construction and this is the best site in all my bookmarks, you are a website GOD, and I applaud you for your effort and the product you put forth for us WIngs fans every day. Keep up the good work man I think it is really cool that the NHL is doing this. Sure the unique site thing is really cool, but many sites suck and don't get updated. I thought that when MLB did it that I would hate it, but I love that all the sites are updated regularly and that there is a consistant standard that is met on every site. Having a functioning informative site for EVERY team is more important than a few really good ones and a bunch of crappy ones. I'm excited I've been waiting for this for years. Before I found LetsGoWings.com It was hard to keep up to date with everything happening in Hockeytown from way over here in Scotland . Posting and reading post's on this site has been the best way for me finding out info about the Wings , and also getting to know fellow Wings fan's . For me this is the Detroit Red Wings site , I thank you .
BAFGA 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 I think the bottom line is the league needs to worry about far more than having every team's website hosted under the NHL domain. The NFL is trying to push this and the owners are fighting them on this. Some teams like to have the autonomy of running their own websites. The MLB formula of having everyone hosted under the MLB domain is as stale as 3 week old bread. We can't allow them to do this.
