SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 PUT THE STEAK KNIFE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!! Never played hockey being from where I am from obviously, I should have gotten into it some when I went to college in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Not a whole lot of hockey prescence there outside of the Stars obviously, but some nonetheless. I haven't been skating in forever, and I haven't tried to skate or rollerblade since I tore my ACL and MCL playing basketball about 3 years ago before I graduated. HuntsVegas Baby 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 I am actually in the process (getting equipment) getting ready to play this winter. I haven't skated in like 10 years, so I hope a few months on the ice will get me going again. I haven't really played organized hockey either, so lets see how it goes! Seraph 240 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 Funny you guys are looking to get back into it too. I have a huge exam coming up next week, but after that, my next project is to find a place in Seattle to play hockey so I can play all summer while I work at the university. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 I started playing hockey about 25 years ago (age of 5), took a few years off (age 19-22), but have been playing ever since. I took up ball hockey a few years ago as well, it is pretty tough, it is played in an actual hockey rink, just without the ice and you have to run instead of skate (a lot of running). It gets really tough in the summer...real hot. Most rinks are not built with air conditioning.
USAFWingedWheel 4 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 i'm in alaska...get to play hockey allot during the summer...i was stationed in texas before i got to play only in the winter, had a nice arena...otherwise, i'd suggest moving......

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 I don't know if they still do it (didn't see it this year, but may have missed it due to overconsumption), but during the Superbowl, they used to have a commercial spot that had the message "tomorrow, we're all undefeated". Some years there were guys singing "the Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow", but we don't have to get that carried away, unless you think it would help. So look at it this way, Zion: Today is the beginning of the next season. Today we are undefeated. Today the players are getting over their injuries, re-energizing, revitalizing, and spending time with their loved ones, all so that they can come out in the '07-'08 season and win us that Cup! Before I rediscovered hockey, I used to get a severe depression every year after the Superbowl, but now I have the Wings to see me through that. Before you know it, they'll be headed off to training camp, and the sun will shine over Michigan again. Do I sound like a corny Pollyanna? You bet! But I've been a Lions fan for over 40 years, and I still hope every fall. Believing in the Wings is SO much easier. All together now: Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love ya, Tomorrow! You're only a daaaaaaaaaay aaaaaaaaaaaaawaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 I played pickup hockey most of my life. Either street hockey or ice hockey on a pond or when my neighbor built a backyard rink in the winter. It wasn't until I was about 22-23 that I decided to start playing organized ice hockey. Due to time and money I haven't played since last fall, but I'm going to start playing drop in again over the summer than join the league again in the fall. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 I play on a beer league team during the summer, but we hardly play at all. Most of us are busy doing other things, so we mostly just wait until fall to play any actual games.

Word of advice, when there's a brawl absolutely DO NOT pick up a stick and chuck it like a spear at the opposing netminder. Anyway, ice hockey is way more fun than roller hockey but for whatever reason i've found its easier to field a roller hockey team than it is to get enough guys together regularly to play ice. There's something about ponying up the dough to play ice hockey and then tyring to play a game with 8 or 9 guys that doesn't seem appealing to me the older I get. Bad Vlad Forever 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 My summer adult league just started last weekend. Am leaving in a couple hours for tonights game. It's totally how I get through until NHL starts back up. Coping skills! That and I've been watching the 4 DVD Red Wings set relentlessly. I'm playing forward this year, which is new for me. I've taken shifts at winger before, but never played dedicated positions up front. I think they'll need me back tonight, so I might volunteer myself for that. So far, I'm a stranger in a strange land. This is a new team I picked up on just for the summer, and they're all a bunch of ex-roller guys and Ducks fans. We wear black, so I went out and bought a Red Wings CCM black practice jersey so I can pretend I'm a Red Wing. Anyways, don't rech for the arsenic just yet.....jump in a league. For me, it always reminds me of the finer points of hockey, and the overall fun and greatness of the game that you just can't get from 50 rows up.
