KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 The Wings really missed having a sniper on their PP this year..I wouldn't mind seeing Shanny back for another go.
Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Sure, Shanny put up numbers.. in the first part of the year, and playing with Jagr and Nylander. Anyway, I thought we established that this team took a step forward without Shanny. He's too slow to fit into our system. We don't need him back. Shanny is a double ended sword. When it comes to putitng up numbers, sure he played with Nylander and Jagr, well we have good players he can play with on this team. If he Played with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Hudler, any of the young guns. I guess he did slow down in the stretch run though. He was hott in the playoffs though as well. He might be slow, but he has some size and we need that desperatly. The wings have no size like they used to. McCarty, Shanahan, Konstintinov, Fetisov, Bertuzzi for a little bit, Probert, they used to always have the big body fighting type, now were all small agile players. DSM 114 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Obviously Hasek. Some key points that it seems people have missed, that I have read - Holland has stated that with Rafalski he is done on D. That translates to Bye-bye Markov, and no Sopel. - Shanahan wants to stay in NY. No, that doesn't mean he is coming back to Detroit. Sorry. - It seemed everyone here really loved Lang (obvious sarcasm)!! Well, then you will all love Yashin just as equally. - Holland has stated he wants to wait to sign another forward. To me, it seems he wants to wait for all of the players that will probably be overpaid to be snatched up, and will probably pick up a decent affordable left over 2nd/3rd liner before camp. I'm taking a stab in the air, and saying that Holland wants to throw someone a $2 mil/1-2 year deal, to leave him with a nice trade deadline cushion along with Hasek's salary. I can definately see (From the list): Johnson, O'Neill, and Peca as possibilities. (Off the list) I could also see: Gelinas, Ekman, Bulis Also available with what I view as a smaller possibility: Juraj Kolnik?, Anson Carter, Josef Vasicek, Arron Asham..... Lindros if cheap. I also wonder about Vladimir Orszagh, I liked him when he played for Nashville. Unfortunately, he missed all of last year with an injury. Also, I didn't know if the list missed him, or they didn't want him on the list, but Jason Allison has also stated availability. However, I'm sure he's still comanding top dollar, and is essentially a slower clone of Lang. Who knows, maybe Holland is planning a surprise European player signing? Alexei Morozov? Pskov Wings Fan 71 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 If Yashin ever made his way to Wings , and Illitch didnt smack Holland around I'd be very surprised. As it is right now , I'd take Feds at 6 mil over Yashin at 1. I would love for Wings to trade for Feds. He is in the last year of his contract. And at 6mil Columbus should not ask much in return. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 (edited) I can't believe any one honestly wants Alexei Yashin to play for the Red Wings. I would be irate if Holland signed this bum. Yashin is Robert Lang, minus the playoff production. Yashin has one playoff goal in nearly 50 games. At least Lang was somewhat a decent performer in the playoffs. Yashin is lazy, unmotivated, and shouldn't even be in the league any longer. Sign me up for Josh Langfeld over Yashin any day of the week. Out of the free agent forwards remaining, I wouldn't mind seeing Gelinas come to Detroit. He can probably be had for a relatively cheap price, and he has proven to be a solid goal scorer. I believe Gelinas is near 300 goals for his career. Plus, he is clutch in the playoffs. He scored the series clinching goal in all three of Calgary's wins in the 2004 playoffs. I'm fine with the Red Wings standing pat and not signing anyone else, but if they do I hope it is Gelinas. Edited July 6, 2007 by GoWings1905
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Why does anyone here want Sopel? Sopel is worse defensively than SCHNEIDER, and doesn't bring nearly the offense Mathieu does. Sopel would be our #4 offensive defenseman behind Lidstrom, Rafalski, and Kronwall. Sopel was outperformed in Vancouver by Kevin Bieksa, who is just finally getting into the NHL at age 26. 96Homer 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Well dom has been resigned so I would like shanny back, I also think it'd be interesting to see forsberg here. I know THAT will prolly never happen hehe. I also think peca would be good as well. But as I keep saying we need to move forward not backward So Peca, Selanne and Yashin might do a lot of good here as well. But we are all just dreaming here right:)?
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Now that Dom is signed, I say no one off that list. I'd rather get the young guys ice time this regular season, then look to pick someone up at the trade deadline.

Hmmmm.......Lang has 18 goals in 87 playoff games (0.206 gpg) and Yashin has 11 goals in 48 playoff games (0.229 gpg). Help me understand how Lang is the superior playoff performer. He'll stay in New York though... esteef
dteowner 20 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 1.5mil for O'Neill might be interesting. It's a gamble which O'Neill you'd end up with (scoring machine or broken down shadow), but the risk/reward balance might be worth a shot.

I guess if they could get him for that price it could be worth the gamble. I haven't seen O'Neill play though, so I don't really have a good handle on how good he is. After this free agent period though, I never know what the hell a guy is gonna get signed for. It's often been almost twice the amount I'd expect.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Hmmmm.......Lang has 18 goals in 87 playoff games (0.206 gpg) and Yashin has 11 goals in 48 playoff games (0.229 gpg). Help me understand how Lang is the superior playoff performer. Lang actually had jump in the 03/04 and 05/06 playoffs. Yashin never has jump. I know your talking about playoff performance , but I'll take a guy who actually trys over a lazy bum.
