He drops the gloves maybe if his sensibilities get slighted. Other than that he doesn't throw his weight around any more than Lang did. I think you're starting to grasp at straws here, Harold. ;) At least Yashin has youth (somewhat) on his side. If Alexei got into 2-3 meaningless fights a year, he'd be Brendan Shanahan.

I agree that Shanny is not the same physical guy he was 10 years ago, but he will drop them on occasion (like when Brashear elbowed Jagr). And that's still more than anyone else on the current Wings roster except maybe Lilja.

Lilja is the most likely on the team to drop the gloves and go after somebody. Think about that.

Maybe Shanny would be inspired by how all the Wings played this past postseason and start throwing his weight around again. And I am definitely starting to grasp at straws because the 2nd line is not looking terribly impressive. The Wings need size and they need scoring. Like I said, on paper he's what the team needs.

That being said, I don't know how I'd feel about him coming back. But I think it's all academic anyway.

As for Yashin, lets's see. Good size, uses it and his reach to be hard to knock off the puck, questionable work ethic, defensively not great.

He's a perfect fit to center the second line. It'd be just like old times, other than Lang actually did produce in the playoffs.

I guess there's the off chance Yashin could get his act together in Detroit, but I don't see him getting along with Babcock. He could sit on the bench right next to Hudler.

Did I say it would turn the Wings into the Ducks? Did I? I don't seem to remember doing so.

One decently gritty player is better then nobody. Which is exactly the kind of situation the Wings are in right now. I mean, these guys like Kopecky and Samulesson are just wasted space. A player like Asham would be a huge step up for those spots.

I never said one signing would change everything around. For that to happen, Holland would probably need to be removed as GM, since he never drafts gritty players anyways. But signing Asham would give the Wings somebody that would actually stand up to an opposing player that decides to take liberties to someone on the Wings. Who do the Wings have that will do that now? Nobody.

Yea, let's remove Holland as a GM since he's doing a lousy job. We haven't won a cup is 5 years for the love of God! And let's see, we heven't been to the final 4 since, oh this year and we haven't finished with 100 points since the lase 7 years in a row. There must be somebody out there that's doing a better job. Let's see... Buffalo lost in the ECF two years in a row then gave up their top 2 players, Aneheim won the cup this year but 2 years ago didn't even make the playoffs. Who else? Oh, San Jose lost in the 2nd round 2 years in a row.

Yea, Holland sucks, he doesn't have a clue.

75 goals and 150 points. Add that to the 100G+ and 250Pt+ that Z - Pavel - Homer ought to put up and we'd be in business.

Hmm , lets do the math here. Hudler 25-30 goals , Samuelsson 10-20 goals , Yashin 10-15 goals. So more like 65 goals. Yashin probably would get 40-50 points , maybe 60. Hudler could get 50. Sammy would more then likely get 40. So more like 140. Plus , Sammy and Yashin are lazy , and Hudlers not the best skater. It may have size , but Yashin nor Sammy check near enough as the should. Other teams would probably have a good laugh before games if thats a line thye had to play agaisnt.

It is so weird. I have been away from the site for just a few weeks (and away from NHL news), and I come back and Bert, and Schneider is gone to the Ducks. Lang is gone to the Blackhawks. We got Rafalski, and Dom is back. It is just so weird to see all that change. I guess that is what I get for slipping off the face of the Earth for a few weeks.....

But if we don't get Yashin, who's gonna be the scapegoat next season? Williams and Lang are gone, and Lilja is playing decent hockey (except that one overtime....). I'm thinking Samuelsson, but he isn't overpaid, so it's not like we can expect anything from him :P
