YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) What? Picking up a guy who was bought out by the Blues? And for 1.1 million? DALLAS DRAKE IS NOT GETTING PAID 1.1M by the Wings!!!!!!!!!!! Dallas Drake was placed on waivers in June. Teams had 24 hours to claim Drake off waivers, at which point, if he wasnt claimed, the St. Louis Blues would be responsible for 2/3 of 1.1M over the next 2 years. Dallas Drake was signed by the Red WIngs AS A FREE AGENT, meaning he could be signed to any dollar amount that is above league minimum. Its very possible that Dallas Drake is only costing Detroit 475k Sorry for the confusion I was making my statement towards the Thomas guy saying Holland was running the team into the ground not you!! Ahh, sorry about that. Edited July 9, 2007 by YoungGuns1340
Guest micah Report post Posted July 9, 2007 DALLAS DRAKE IS NOT GETTING PAID 1.1M by the Wings!!!!!!!!!!! Shhh. It's more fun when you watch them make fools of themselves. I'm happy with this signing. He's old and won't have any real impact on anything, but he'll fill a roster spot for cheap and finish his checks. I've always liked his game. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 The Wings will still be able to afford pretty much anyone at the deadline, assuming they start the season with this roster. Hell, if they start the season with this roster, they can pick up pretty much anyone plus another high end player. Paying only the prorated salary is huge come deadline time. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Excuse me while I'm sick :puke: Now that I got that out of the way, not a smart move by Kenny. We already have tons of checking line forwards, now he just added another one, one that could barely keep his place on a last place Blues team no less, and an older one on top of it all. I guess Lebda won't have to worry about anymore flying elbows to the head, just wonder who on the roster isn't gonna have a spot because of him. He should be stuck fighting for the 13th roster spot, and shouldn't see much if ANY icetime at all. And paying $1.1 million for him no less...unreal. Way to go out and sign that top 6 forward we need Kenny. Holland isnt paying him 1.1M. The St. Louis Blues are. Hell, if they start the season with this roster, they can pick up pretty much anyone plus another high end player. Paying only the prorated salary is huge come deadline time. DaWingsin071 4 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I love it, every year you people whine and ***** about the wings lack of toughness and grit, we get a guy who does both and comes cheaper than most of the remaining UFA's. And you still complain about it, I dont get Wings fans they want grit and toughness and when the get they cry about it. They want a fast younger forward we get it through the drafts and you still complain. Be happy our roster looks nice. Plus as mlive.com were still looking for a top 6 forward and depth defencemen. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) Holland isnt paying him 1.1M. The St. Louis Blues are. You said that the blues have to pay 2/3 of his salary becuase they put him on waivers and he didn't get grabbed... Now, does that mean that we could offer him a huge price tag (sticking blues with 2/3 the bill)? or are they set at 2/3 the 1.1 million? and then we pay 1/3 that plus whatever more we give him? Does that make sense? Edited July 9, 2007 by OsGOD
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Probably not a bad move for the team, especially if he's cheap, but personally, I think he's a douchebag. esteef

Guys like Kopecky will get their playing time but guys his age with his experience will not contribute as much physically nor offensively nor with leadership as Drake will. When was the last time the Wings had a bonafide big time body checker? Vladdy? Wings need a top 6 winger but they also need guys like Drake. Not small guys that try to hit and bounce off of people like most of ours do. Drake knows how to punish when he hits and the wings need to do a little punishing. GO WINGS Alot of them just want the flavor of the week. Or even stranger just pick a certain player at random and get all pissed off when there not signed. Instead of going on a player by player basis and evaulating the situation, they go to TSN, look at height, weight, country of origin, and age. Oh yeah, they may read the pro's and con's and take them as the hockey bible. Instead of watching the players play and forming there own opinions. Drake is 6-1 and plays a bigger game than alot of taller guys. Same as Cleary.

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) He may not be a scorer but he's no slouch. Mindblowing that so many wanted Booter on the big team and are pissed over this. Atleast Drake can skate and actually make a difference in the NHL game. He'll be a strong physical prescence that isn't near the liability that many other tough guys are. He may not have great hands, but you also don't get near 500 points completely sucking like most tough guys. So long as this is cheap which I have no doubt that it is, I think it's a solid signing. Not mindblowing, but nothing to complain about all things considered. There's a lot of upside to it when it really all shakes down. I think he'll play regularily and hard as hell and score atleast 15 goals this year on a solid Wings team. Call me crazy, but I think beind around a legit organization will not just light a fire under him but will get a bit more offense out of him. We make marginal players better than they are. DaWingsin071 4 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Check out Mlive.com Drake signed a one year $550,000 contract. So for the idiots who thought we got him for a 1.1 mill boy do you look stupid. Nice signing for CHEAP. GO WINGS

I get your point, but you're exaggerating, and 38-year-old Dallas Drake is not a 'bonafide big-time body-checker.' Against guys like Fischer and Hatcher, he's an utter wuss. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Well, considering Bowman said Drake was the dumbest player he ever coached, I doubt he'd say this ^ I think that was Matt's point. That was funny when he said that about him... you can't really blame Drake though for being a dumb coachee... he always lead with his head and face! and wow $550,000.00 damn good price... that will make the possibility of picking up a Feds at the Deadline a very big possiblitily! NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 For $550,000 its a solid deal. It helps address an issue, without overpaying for it. This leaves plenty of cap room for a second liner and a deadline acquisition.

Does that make sense? No. The St. Louis Blues only pay Drake 2/3 of his salary, saving the Blues organization 1/3 of the salary. After being bought out, he is essentially a free agent, so whatever NEW contract he signs is paid in full by the signing team, in this case the Red Wings, and doesnt have any effect on the Blues. KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I dont like the signing ... i love it ... yes he has no offensive help for us ... but he brings grit is not scared to hit and he is an AGITATOR lol he will piss of the other player so much that they will get in penalties ... cant wait to see him play with us ... he probably would of drove pronger crazy last year

I gotcha... so he is getting paid that 2/3 autmatically from the Blues and then whatever else the Wings decided to give him... which looks like 500,000.00 Damn not a bad pay day for Sir. I get your point, but you're exaggerating, and 38-year-old Dallas Drake is not a 'bonafide big-time body-checker.' Against guys like Fischer and Hatcher, he's an utter wuss. Let's take your example one step further. I guess you could say that against a brick wall, Sherman tank, 747 Boeing and the list goes on and on, that he is an utter wuss. Tthank God i'm not concerned about him hitting guys that are 6-5 or 6-6 and around 235 lbs. My hope is (fingers crossed) that he'll be able to hit just a couple of the 650 or so players in the league that fall far below those vital statistics. are you catching my faint hint of sarcasm here? YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Anybody else see this?? From Mlive.com Just a hunch, but they might be keeping some money free to sign Peter Forsberg midway through the season, if he wants to continue playing and they're convinced his foot is OK. WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) I like the signing. Always hated playing against Drake ever since he was traded, which means he was doing something right. Although, I really wanted to see Hudler/Kopecky get a shot this year. Oh well, we always lose someone to injury. Filppula (733,333K) - Datsyuk (6.7) - Grigorenko (858,800K) Hudler (1.015) - Zetterberg (2.65) - Holmstrom (2.25) Maltby (883,333K) - Draper (2.128) - Cleary ( 662,500K) Samuelsson (1.2) - Franzen (941,667K) - Drake (550K) Kopecky (500K) I like it Edited July 9, 2007 by WhiteLightning91
