auxlepli 17 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 (edited) Yes, I'd love to see him back in a Wings uniform. I looked for an Avery jersey when I was in Detroit, but couldn't find one. Edited July 14, 2007 by auxlepli
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted July 14, 2007 My how opinions have changed. I guess I cant say anyone who's already responded has changed their opinions, because i just dont know....but one thing i do know is that if this question was asked last season, or any other seaosn for that matter, it would be 90% people saying he is absolutely worthless and too much of a prick to ever want him back on the Wings. Then he goes to NY and actually shows people what kind of an impact he can make and everyone is singing his praises. Not that I can disagree, I've been on this guys bandwagon ever since his first day on the ice and haven't hopped off once. Glad to see people are coming around. You and me both my man. I wanted this guy back the day he was traded. What a great addition he would be to our team.
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted July 14, 2007 (edited) I dont have much doubt that the Rangers will find a way to keep Avery, even if it means dealing somebody. me either but Imagine a Cleary-Avery-Franzen third line lol. akustyk 84 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 Avery would not get along with Babcock and I'd rather keep the later than get Avery. on the paper I'd like Avery because he's shown some maturity and willingness to apply his skills in good way. he also seems to be more of a team guy now. still, I'd grade him as A- level risk of locker room cancer. would rather like safer options
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 Avery has the tools/skills to be a decent 2nd/3rd liner for regular NHL duty. He's done well with that recently in his last year with LA and currently with the Rangers now. I'm all about just going about your business like normal though, don't make too much of a big deal about much, live quietly and don't say or do anything wild. etc. etc. etc. Avery has had a problem with that, and I don't like. If he's curbed his attitude some like it seems, I wouldn't mind having him back. The old and out-of-control Avery on/off the ice, absolutely not.

WingWarrior25 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 I'm sure New York is going to do whatever it takes to resign him, but it would be great if they didn't and we were able to land him. He would instantly become my new favorite Red Wing.
Rangers79 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 (edited) I dont have much doubt that the Rangers will find a way to keep Avery, even if it means dealing somebody. The buzz around here is that the Rangers, in order to clear space for Avery, are looking to send Cullen back to the Hurricanes....Avery is ours, and you CAN'T HAVE HIM..I love this guy.... Hey we had him first!! We want what was once ours. lol But yeah If the Rangers are smart they would definitely retain him. So Im not expecting this to actually happen. But I would be so happy to see Aves back in the winged wheel.

A year or two ago a similar thread appeared on this site and I said I'd love to have him back. I was TORN APART by most of the posters. The dominant thought at that time was that he wasn't worth the hassle and the penalties. Funny how things change.
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted July 15, 2007 if NY cant sign him would you want him back here? I sure would i think right there would end our grit and toughness problem. having him drake and malbty ad also cleary and draper. he eve scores goals now and is more grown up with how he plays. I wasn't crazy about us trading him away but I liked getting Schneider so it was ok by me. Funny though how much abuse Avery took once he was gone. He had a few Charles Barkley-esque sound-bites and became public enemy #1. I specifically can recall quite a few posters here who thought he should be out of the league, was a bum, wouldn't fight or back up his talk, had zero skill, etc.....and this was when he was putting up pretty decent numbers and not even the gaudy numbers from last season. Now he'd be welcome back with open arms. I love how fickle people are.

I was absolutely infuriated when Avery was dealt, here we finally had a guy that was really entertaining and played physical every time he stepped on the ice and Kenny goes and takes him away from me! I did a search earlier today for a couple old Avery threads from last year, and it was pretty funny to see the total 180 in attitude towards him.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 I'd love to see Avery playing for the Wings. Won't happen tho cuz the Rangers would rather have him play than some of the other players they have on the squad and will find a way to put Avery on the roster... HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 (edited) I was absolutely infuriated when Avery was dealt. You and me both. I remember I was in class and my Math teacher was like "Reem, the Wings just traded Avery" and I just stared at him and yelled out WHAT?! in front of the whole class. I didn't even give a crap that they were all looking at me. I was soooooo beyond pissed. Edited July 15, 2007 by HockeyCrazy3033
Stevie Y Forever 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 Not to mention Avery looks up to Yzerman so much, afterall thats why he wears number 19. and with Stevie Y workin the deals we could have a shot.. right?
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 How does that work? I thought even if you demoted someone to the minors you still had to pay him what he's signed for? It doesnt count against the cap. Basically the same thing if you keep a guy on long-term IR. I really pisses the f*** out of me that GMs can get away with s*** like that. If you sign a guy, you should have to pay for me if hes healthy enough to play.
