Well, I feel the majority of people here will be happy, becuase his name will no longer be mentioned to come here. I, for one, am not, because he would have been a perfect fit here.

Nevertheless, it should be interesting to see him and Cam Janssen playing on the same team. Those two fight each other every chance they get.

Just beat me to it. I'll just copy and paste my feelings about this from the other thread.

Im gonna be really curious to see how much the deal is for. Cause I would have loved to see Asham in the winged wheel. I'll be really disappointed if the Devils got him for a good price. Asham would have been a really good, physical addition to this squad. Good signing for the Devils. But either way, that team is definitely going down hill. But they should still be playoff bound.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was never even on Holland's radar. I would have loved to have him here, but his physical style of play combined with the fact that he's willing to drop the gloves from time to time basically prevented him from ever being a Wing.

Exactly. The only type of players who have ever played that type of game at any point of their career that sign with the Wings usually suck by time they do so.

Holland is an enigma when it comes to toughness. He has ever other aspect of the game down except toughness. I don't know why he struggles in that department so much.

"urgh...he's a horrible player"

What exactly are you basing this off? I mean i know he is no Gretzky but surely you would agree he is no 'worse' then fleet footed Maltby or Drake. he would of been an INSTANT fan favorite here, but most likely, as mentioned above, due to him dropping the gloves and gritty style of play he was most likely absent from ken hollands list of possibilities.

I wouldve liked to see Asham before Drake, but now with Drake and Kopecky and half of the other bottomfeeders we have, there just wasnt any room for him.

Bottom feeders is right. Our 4th line, which I was hoping would include some gritty fighters, will be going off guys like Samulesson and Drake (nothing against Drake either, but there are better and plenty of other fish in the sea that can do his job better).

Just not as cheap.

How would he be a perfect fit here? We have so many bottom six forwards that they're spilling into our top 6. It's a top 6 goal scoring winger that would be a perfect fit, not a banger for the 4th line.

Why does no one realize that what the Red Wings need most is skill/scoring up front? The Wings aren't a soft all-skill team anymore. They're a hard working gritty group of forwards with only half a handful of true skill guys mixed in. Times they are a changin'. We haven't been able to purely outskill other teams for a while now.

norrisnick, because those people want a fighter worse than a sailor on leave wants a BJ.

I agree this team desperately needs a top 6 scoring forward.

Now if that forward can throw down and check like a mo-fo then even better, but right now this team has 3 goal scores (even though I hesitate to call Homer a goal scorer) and then a lot of hopes and dreams pinned on some youngsters.

Funny though how a rebuild in the D is definitely different than say in Chi town.

So? Holland could compromize by dumping them off on other teams.

Granted, that's sort of a dumb solution to the problem, but I want a fighter here. You know, to only see 1 fight every 3 months is getting pretty annoying at this point. Our bottom 6 forwards currently are extremely boring players that don't fight at all, which I wish we had ones that did.

I want wins. Goals get you those. Not fights.

Ever see a team come out re-energized after a fight? I sure have. Cant that lead to goals?

So, you would rather have our current 4th line scrubs like Kopecky and Samulesson over someone like Asham? Wow, that's a first.

Ken Holland must have brainwashed you.

Yes it can, and thank you for pointing that out.

Ever see a team come out flat because their fighter was tooled? I sure have. Can't that lead to losses?

Only if you have guys that can score them. Hence the need for a top 6 goal scorer instead of another bottom 6 plugger.

Yes... Samuelsson, our 20-goal-scoring (barring injury), 5th on the team in playoff scoring, $1.5m/yr 4th line scrub... yes...

I think any GM would laugh at you if you suggested they take Asham over Samuelsson.

If we didn't already have Kopecky, Drake, and Maltby... sure go nuts, sign Asham. As it is we're stocked with pluggers and we don't need any more. I'm just not gonna freak out because Kenny didn't sign a 4th liner which in turn would force him to pawn one of other 4th liners off to someone. The 4th line is the least of my worries.

Ken hasn't done a thing to me. I just don't see the need in freaking out about players that won't make a meaningful impact. Plus, I don't think Asham would be nearly as good being the go-to tough guy. He usually rides shotgun with bigger badder dudes (Cairns, Godard, Erskine, Simon, Witt, etc...). Since one is the most you guys could possibly hope for, Asham is probably not the guy for you.
