Guest Yzer19 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) I think the Wings did the right thing by not re-signing him especially with his history of back problems. Edited September 28, 2007 by Yzer19
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I think the Wings did the right thing by not re-signing him especially with his history of back problems. He had back surgery last year. What more do we need to discuss?

Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 He was never going to be at his best last season. He probably wouldn't have played at all it the playoffs weren't on the agenda. Still very, very disappointed he left.
junior 1 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 i was sad he didn't re sign bertuzzi is the type of guy i would take a chance on cause if he stays healthy he can dominate. I have a feeling he is going to have a great season with the ducks, only reason im ok with us not signing him is that 4+ million dollar contract
Cicada 4 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 i have absulutely no worries that we didn't resign him.. if he plays more than 40 games this year i'll be suprised.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I have a feeling he plays 60-70 games and gets 60-70 points. with 30 goals. He's gonna come back. But he'll still be overpaid.
up2here 41 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Maybe it was just me but I got the impression that he never bought into Babcock's "Leave it all on the ice" coaching style. Todd is a good player but not worth the money he got in my opinion.
Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I think a healthy Bertuzzi is exactly what the Wings need. But $4 mil for that "IF" he stays healthy probably was too much of a gamble. I guess we'll see. I'm glad Holland didn't overypay this offseason but at the same time I hope he doesn't end up just overpaying at the trade deadline instead. Rice 42 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Two years, $8 million is too much of a gamble for Bertuzzi at this point in his career.
arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 T'was a s***ty situation. I really thought he would stay. With all the talk of how much he was liking Detroit. But Burke still loves him so much from his Van days and was offering him a ton of coin. If he bounces back and is Bert of 02', then yeah, I suppose we let one go when we should've got r' done. But, thats already in the past, and a category of what ifs' isn't what we need.
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Maybe I'm suffering from amnesia, but I don't rememeber Bertuzzi ever playing for the Red Wings. All jokes aside, I'm glad we didn't resign him. He's not half the player he used to be, and I don't expect him to stay healthy this year in Anaheim either. We don't need damaged goods on this team, especially from a player who's never been known as a character guy.
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I was angry when we didn't re-sign Bert, but for the price im glad we passed on him. But i just hope he gets about 60-75 points, and hopefully he doesn't play well when he plays against us

RainingBlood 8 Report post Posted September 30, 2007 (edited) This team is the same team who was 2 wins away from the Finals, besides the loss of Bertuzzi 3 goals and 4 assists in the playoffs and was a -2 and was virtually invisible. Schneider regular season had 11 goals and 41 assists, playoffs he had 2 goals 4 assists and practically played all of the playoffs. Errr Lang 19 goals and 33 assists and playoffs 2 goals 6 assists. Now Rafalski as the addition 8 goals 47 assists. So if Brian Burke thinks that Bertuzzi is going to cure the loss of Selanne and Schneider will cure the loss of Niedermayer, he is sadly mistaken. I think the Ducks too a big step back, and I think they showed yesterday. The Redwings will be just fine without Bertuzzi, and will win the Central Division hands down.
