Turkey 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Yes, I was just about to post this. Gives a whole new meaning to the "Hockey Fights Cancer" ads doesn't it? Seriously, to be playing after a diagnosis like this is really impressive.

Nightfall 871 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Wikipedia entry on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_myelogenous_leukemia In one analysis of several clinical studies, three different risk groups were identified based on a prognostic scoring system that includes several variables: age, spleen size, blast count, platelet count, eosinophil count and basophil count. In the lowest risk group, the median survival time was 98 months. In the middle group, the median was 65 months, and in the highest risk group, the median was about 42 months. Of all patients analyzed, the longest survival time was 117 months. 98 months was the median? The longest is 117 months? Thats horrible. I am going to have to do a little more research on this disease because those figures can't be right.

Hank 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 I know some of this info has already been leaked but I just heard on XM that this is a very mild case of cancer (if there is such a thing) and that by taking these chemo-pills, he'll live a normal and healthy life. Blake said he's been told by doctors that it won't affect his quality of life in any way and he will be able to do everything on the ice he could do before. That's some great news for Blake and his family.
