seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 Voros has fought twice in the 2nd here. Steckel and Bradley. The 1st one with Steckel was probably a draw, but I'd give a slight edge to Bradley in the 2nd one. They both took their buckets off on the 1st one, so that was cool. And Brooks Laich has 4 points so far.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Not any fighting majors assesed, but a great game between Buffalo and Nashville. Tootoo slashed Roy and that drew the attention of Bernier and Connolly of all people.

Tootoo slashed Roy and that drew the attention of Bernier and Connolly of all people. Yep, even the non-fighters come in to defend their teammates. Something that happens with virtually every team in the league except on the Wings.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I watched a great documentary on hockey tough guys today. Theres this guy named Kevin Holliday, search him on youtube. He set the professinal hockey record for fights in a season with 45. Of course he was only playing in the UHL, but still. He's a pretty good fighter too. Here are his stats throughout his years. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=23883
cirov19 1 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Nope, wrong. The Wings will defend the other teamates... but only if we're down with hardly any time left and extremely frustrated. That would be just about the only time.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I miss the UHL. A lot of tough guys played in that league. When the Motor City Mechanics still played down at GLSC in Fraser, I went to their games quite a bit (it also helped I lived in Fraser at the time). I remember watching the brawls involving teams like Kalamazoo and such, and that was some great hockey. The Mechanics had some great minor league fighters; Mel Angelstad, Tom Kotsopoulos (not the one on Montreal, this guy is a different person), Ryan Van Buskirk, Kevin Hansen, Brad Cruikshank, Brandon Fleenor, Kyle Kos, Matt Smith, and a couple of others. I miss that team, and the league for that matter, a lot. It's a shame that the NHL prefers to appeal to the soccer dad's and soccer mom's that feel fighting is too violent, rather than the real fans who like it. It's nice that leagues such as the ECHL still exist, since that is quickly becoming the new game of choice.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 (edited) Nope, wrong. The Wings will defend the other teamates... but only if we're down with hardly any time left and extremely frustrated. That would be just about the only time. Stuart, Downey and McCarty dont count. I'm in the mood to write so here goes. Against the Oilers, nice guy Jason Williams wraps the puck around the net trying to score, Raffi Torres absolutely crushes J-Willy, and what do the Wings do? Skate to the bench and hope for a powerplay. Next game against the Oilers, Markov dunks Stoll with a heavy hit, Moreau tries to get back at Markov, but breaks his hand. Hey, at least he tried. In a divisional game against St Louis, with the Wings leading, Ryan Johnson, 4th line center who is not known as a fighter, runs Hasek HARD. What do the Wings do? Watch as there all star goalie gets ran over, go into the corner and form a small scrum. Another game, Dallas Drake takes a huge run at Lebda, puts him in the hospital, no retaliation. Another game, Ville ******* Niemenen runs Lebda, nothing. And finally, Chris Pronger hammers Tomas Holmstrom from behind into the boards head first, and no response. The Wings are one of the softer teams in the league, Downey has helped loads, alot more then people on this site would like to acknowledge. If there's no Downey against Colorado, our all star defenceman gets run, and no retaliation. McCarty and Stuart will be HUGE physical presences if they come in and play like they should. But if Holland added a Gratton or a Malone at the deadline, it certainly wouldnt have hurt. EDIT: I just re-read your post, and I think you agree with me Edited February 28, 2008 by Detroit # 1 Fan

I've seen some brawls from those games in youtube. The AHL and ECHL are really good too, but still, I wouldnt mind some 80's style hockey between the Wings and Ducks. There are a bunch of different CHL leagues, so I'm not sure which one.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 LNAH is the league to watch if you like fighting. The toughest league in the world bar none. Maybe that's where Lilja should go to get some real competition instead of beating up on guys like Chris Neil.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I've heard of that league, I think. You're referring to the one based out of Quebec, right? Yes! Fans go to games just for fights, and you're guaranteed to get several fights a game on any given night. There's also brawls that break out from time to time. It looks like something out of Slapshot. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 29, 2008 Jarrko Ruutu is a ****** and a terrible fighter. But he starts a fight with my boy Milan Lucic who was at the end of a shift, Lucic gets the solid W, one of the better fights I've seen this year, lasted pretty long. Once it gets on hockeyfights or youtube... watch it.

Once it gets on hockeyfights or youtube... watch it. I have to completely disagree with ya there, Jarko Ruutu is far from a terrible fighter. For what he is, a scrappy middleweight guy, he does not lose very often and has laid out more than few whoopings. I'd go so far as to say he's not only not terrible, but is actually a pretty darn good fighter imo. You had better believe Janssen is itching to go with Carcillo in his debut!
