I know it eklund but according to him a Westren team is VERY intersted in Latendress. He is a "big body" 6-2, 225 and only 20 years old and very skilled and also likes to mix it up.

First off Eklund makes things up out of thin air. The other day on XM204 he said that the Leafs were looking to deal Kaberle. This suggestion is beyond absurd. Kaberle is their best dman and he's a bargain at under $5M. If anyone is getting dealt from T.O. it's Kubina or McCabe (yes i know that McCabe has a NTC, but I seriously think McCabe would consider getting out of town due to his whipping boy status).

Anyway, I don't think Montreal has any intention of getting rid of Latendresse anytime soon. Not only is he young, tough and talented but he's also French-Canadian. I highly, highly doubt the Habs have any interest of getting rid of a kid like that unless someone like Kronwall is coming back in return. The Habs would have to get someone of exceptional talent in return if they're going to tell their loyal french fan base that they just dealt a francophone for another European.

Eklund is such a phony and none of his rumours (see - stuff he's read on sportsnet forums) are even close to being true of feasible.

In the end, the Wings should have grabbed Malone from the Pens when he was in the doghouse and had one foot on the way out of Pittsburgh.

Also, it's not going to take one hard-nosed North American, it's going to take 3 or 4 skilled gritty N.A.'s to turn this teams makeup around. It's the same reason why Bert never really got going. How do you change a Euro style with one gritty Canadian? It's going to take a handful.

Agree with most of what you are typing, but wondering why you think there needs to be a turn around in this team's make up?? Also, Bert never got going because he was injured and never has been or will be the player that had his few good years....had zero to do with the Euro factors you imply...

Anson Carter is overpaid and doesn't play up to his size. That guy cleaned up garbage goals from the Sedin sisters for one season and the guy wanted 4 mill per season. I hope they dont waste their time on him.

See my post above about that clown

Does Robert Lang count as a big body? Seriously, though, Phoenix won't trade Doan for Fillpulla and crap in return, especially since Fillpulla himself is playing like crap right now. Holland should have had some foresight in the offseason to bring in a forward, instead of scrambling around now. I'm not too hot on any of the names I've heard mentioned so far. Lindros, Bondra, Carter? Would you guys really want to see any of these rejects in a Wings uniform? We're in a tough situation right now at forward, and it's only going to get worse unless Fillpulla, Cleary, and Hudler step it up offensively.

Guest jaytan

well clearly, after 8 games he has no points, which projects to 82 games and no points, so if he plays for another 20 years he still won't have any points ... why would we want a guy who will never register a point? :hehe:

A fight?

I'm not saying the team has to be turned around but I do think that more than one piece needs to be added if the Wings want to play a style similar to the Ducks or Sharks.

Lately I've heard from a lot of Wings fans that wish our team was more physical with a bang-and-crash style (I'm one of them). But in order for that to happen I think the Wings need at least two physical wingers with 20 goal potential and two physical dmen. Calling up Quincy and adding another physical dman would be the trick.

But as is, the Wings have a very good team and should contend for the Cup again. I guess I'm just one of the minority that would gamble with our current core to build a more North American team that likes to rough up their opponents when things get out of hand.

Im part of that minority too Hank.

I love the way the Wings have drafted throughout there history, but it's not like guys like Milan Lucic and Jared Boll are first rounders or anything, I want guys like that in our organization.

And on the subject of Lucic, I love how he plays, he's everything I like in a hockey player, big, tough, can score goals and can chuck the knuckles. Boston got a steal with him in the 2nd round, as for Boll, I like him too, he was a later pick, but he can throw his fists and is a great defensive forward (as is Lucic).

...why would Holland want him? He already passed him up in the draft, TWICE!!!! He should have taken this guy in the second round, Abdelkader would have still been there in round 3... (of course I was hoping they'd take him in the draft, but if it wouldn't cost more than Kronwall, then I'd be for it)

...those "big" bodies that Holland seeks will come in the form of Forsberg and Fedorov both at the deadline (I know Forsberg is a UFA but he is oft injured and won't play until the playoffs basically) and at the expense of Hudler (via the trade for Feds) and Kopecky via the UFA aquisition of Forsberg... (hey now I sound as confident as Eklund.)

...Of course the guy I've been clammering about the entire summer is still available and will play for pennies, Adam Hall. He's big, strong and can bang around, but I am sure that Holland wants to get some more scoring on one of his #2-4 lines...

...I say get Feds now, put him as your #2 center with Cleary and Flips on his wing or put him on the wing with one of the wonder twins...

No he isnt. He was signed by Pittsburgh early in October.

O'neal might work here, he wouldn't be counted on as a first line guy. Where is he anyways?

Where is Alexei Yashin? I know the Islanders bought him out, but come on, he put up 50pts in 58 games in his last season! Nobody wants to take a chance on him? He should come cheap and maybe he wants to prove himself? I think he would be worth taking a chance on as a 2nd or 3rd line center here, he's only 34 this year and maybe him and Dats would become buddies?

How bout we sign O'neal and Yashin for 1/2 mil each? Even if we had to send them down or buy them out it would be worth the risk if even one of them turned it around like Cleary did here. Nobody wanted that guy when he tried out for us either.. now he's a hard-working fan favorite for us.

I wouldnt mind O'neill, but no to Yashin. He's in Russia and good riddance.

Yashin? What's the point of getting him? He's the same thing as Robert Lang, except he doesn't score clutch goals.

I could be wrong, but doesn't Yashin have a pretty bad attitude? Probably not TO style, but isn't he a ass?

He's known as being lazy and a poor leader. Then again, that's the Islanders fault for making him captain. I don't think he'd be a cancer in our locker room, but my first post on Yashin sums up exactly why we should never even think about signing him.

Appreciate you response...well put!

I understand and agree now....I also would like to see some of the more physicaI types in the line up, particularily when Dom, Holms, Zets, and Dats get ran like in last year's playoffs....

Only reason I was questioning is that I just get dumbfounded when I think people are not seeing how good of a team and organization we have here. Finding a perfect mix of fire-brand and finese hockey would be every teams goal....I don't think the Wings are far off the perfect model club....of course there are tweaks to be made but at what expense.....I guess that's the bottom line and why we are lucky to have Kenny at the helm!

Dude- you can say that for every team.

That's the thing with so many of these rumours- they're basically wishfullfilment.

You said it. Man does it bug me when people rag on Holland for the trades he doesn't make. Usually that's because people have it in their imaginations that "player might be available" + "Wings have a need" = sure thing. Only thing standing in the way is that Holland is a dope.

That said, I think the #1 thing the Wings need is a dependable second-line scoring threat. That doesn't mean picking up some crappy re-tread like Anson Carter or taking a chance that Eric Lindros' head won't completely implode next time he gets knocked over. I think the best course of action is for the Wings to muddle along as best they can 'til the deadline, then make their move. Right now everyone still thinks they ought to be in the race, and that'll change by February.
