with draper signed at about an average of 1.6 mill per year , what do you guys think franzen, filppula, lidstrom and cleary will get ?? Any chances of franzen or cleary testing the market ??

first with lidstrom i think since hes still a star i dont think we'll get much of a discount, he's making 7.6 per year now i see maybe a 2 yr/ 7 mill per year deal coming ......As for franzen hes been a nice physical player for us and has been averaging 10+ goals a year , i just cant see him getting 2.5+ per year though ....... maybe a 2-3 yr deal at 2 mill per ???

Cleary had a nice season last year with 20 goals , so far hes got only 1 , i see him maybe getting 10-15 , i see maybe a 1.5 to 2 million per deal for 3 yrs , but then again i can also picture someone giving him maybe 2.25 -2.5 per year , at that price i'd let him walk

And filppula as dissapointing as he'd been on the stats department i still think he's gonna be really good and id show confidence in the guy and offer a 3 yr 1.5 mill per year deal right now

Anyways guys the reason why i brought this topic up is cause in a few yrs zetterberg will likely get a massive contract , probably 7.5 per , and the guys in the topic are all due for raises , so the cap might be a little tight for us , considering we'd have rafalski, datsyuk, lidstrom, zetterberg making 6+ each and counting for more then half our cap

i just saw this on hockeybuzz.com ...............

Rumours...Draper Extended, Lidstrom Next?, Jassen Cullimore-Panthers(e4-5)

Today @ 8:48 AM ET | Comments (98)

The Red Wings have reportedly extended Kris Draper for 2-3 years, and word is that Lidstrom may be in the verge of signing a HUGE deal.

Former Hab and Hawk Jassen Cullimore is VERY close to signing a deal with the Florida Panthers...

I am also following a lead on trade talk between the Lightning and Red Wings...

HUGE DEAL ??????? hes almost 40 how much of a huge deal can it be ? lol ..... and what could the lightning have that might interest us

I think just like Stevie, Lids has every intention of retiring with the Wings being his only team, I don't think his salary will drop to 6.5 though, I totally expect him to sign for 7 a year, MAYBE 7.5.........

and if he signs a 3 year extension, 21 million is a HUGE deal at his age.....

Prospal.

i'd be weary of him, he's off to a fast start so what?

although i could see them trading him straight up for hudler!

Im not saying hes the best option out there, but regardless he is a proven second line player who would fit well in Detroits system and is a big body (6'2, 200). Hes also a UFA this year, so he might be up for sale if TB slows down just a bit. Its understandable why he would interest Detroit. And its not like he hasnt put up big numbers before..

Either way, I didnt realize that it was an Eklund rumor, so it probably has no basis whatsoever.

I wouldn't be too surprised to see Nick give up a little bit of pay to help make the team more competitive. That is just the kind of leader that he is. There is no reason for him to and it shouldn't be expected of him, that is why I think that it is a possibility. $6M per for 2 yrs.

Isn't there some kind of law about spreading Eklund's crap??

Prospal.

realistiically you think tampa is gonna trade a guy whos got 8 goals already ??? NO chance ....... he vinny st louis and richards aren't touchable and we dont need help on defense and they obviously do so defencemen arent an option, i dont see anything they got that we'd realistically want or can get

In all fairness, I know eklund can post s*** without confirming sources unlike major sports networks. So, he has the often 15 minute advantage over them. But for all the s*** the guy has been given. Over the last year, in particular last years deadline, he did a pretty decent job. Made a few bang on calls.

Dont get me wrong, I think he is a chump to, but a lot the eklund bashing seems to me like it is just another Bettmanesque-bandwagon thing. Everybody else hates him, so you do to.

But on topic ... I'd like to see all the guys listed above back in Wings uni's.

1) Lids ... well, no explanation really. I'd like to see him give us a discount, but if he doesn't, I'd still pay him whatever.

2) The Franz ... turnin out well, I agree with your call.

3) Cleary ... I absolutley loved this guy last year in the playoffs. Some nights he was the best guy on the ice. That hit on Phaneuf!!! Yeah, if he can bring what he brought there, keep him in Detroit.

4) Filp ... hmmm. Every talks about this guy with a ton a potential. And I'm all for bring in young guys and allowing them time to step up into elite. (see Dats, and Z) But I do want him to step up production. But, its not like that secondary scoring has to come from just him, there are a few others who need to start finding the back of the net on a more regular basis.

Um, yeah, actually Prospal IS touchable. Just because hes got 8 goals so far doesnt mean hell keep that pace. Hes a 2nd line forward, not a bluechip foundational piece. And just because the Wings *may* (unlikely, since its Eklund reporting) be in talks with Tampa, it doesnt mean that Prospal gets traded tomorrow. It could simply be discussion and expression of interest, about possibly working out a deal in later months. But the entire notion of Prospal, an UFA on a team that is a middle of the road squad at this point, being traded at any point during the season is not only possible but LIKELY, if Tampa doesnt make the playoffs.

Don't know if we have a shot at Prospal but Gratton seems to be a more realistic scenerio. Weren't the wings looking at him when he was with Florida a while back?? He's a big body too and could help out along the boards on the second line.

Gratton is not a 2nd line player. His offensive abilities are akin to Cleary, Franzen, and Sammy at this point in his career. The last thing we need is a ANOTHER guy that falls into that grey area of the # 6-9 forwards. Hudler, Filppula, Cleary, Draper, Sammy, and Franzen could all potentially or will put up the 35-40 points that Gratton likely will. What Detroit needs is a #3-4 forward. At this point, Sammy is a better offensive force than Gratton.

That being said, I wouldnt mind Gratton if we didnt already have so many players around his level offensively. I do like that he plays physical, but the last thing I want to see is Detroit wasting more space and money on non-impact players that arent solidified 2nd liners.

EDITED for clarity.

Gratton would be a great pickup for the 3rd/4th line, but I don't think Tampa would trade him so quickly, considering how they just got him last summer.

Nobody on Tampa really interests me. Prospal is too inconsistant to give anything of great value up for. If someone like Hudler or Franzen were involved in the deal, I wouldn't mind, but I don't think giving up any good prospects like Kindl or somebody like that would be very smart.

Since Eklund said it, though, it won't happen. It's already jynxed.

im quite aware just cause hes got 8 goals doesnt mean he'll have 50 , but hes most likely gonna get 30 goals the way he's playing , and besides the big 3 of richards vinny and st louis tampa doesnt have anyone else so why would they trade a 30 goal scorer who isnt making much money ???? they wont trade him ......... only way he would ever get traded is if they dont make the playoffs as you stated AND they dont have him locked up before the deadline arrives
