Rice 42 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 TSN: The Calgary Flames have called a news conference tonight and sources tell TSN it is to announce a long-term contract extension for Calgary netminder Miikka Kiprusoff. Sources say it is a six-year deal worth an average of between $5.5 million to $6 million per year. Great deal.

CdnWingsFanEh 2 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 oh, no... does this mean we're not going to go get Kipper? No, it means Holland will now have to pull off one of his 5th rounders, and Lilja for Kipper deals. Oh, but they get a 3rd rounder if he signs an extension with the wings... Guest Canadian Wings Report post Posted October 29, 2007 So were pretty much f***ed after this year for goal tending lol Hasek wont be back, Howard is the only viable option. *sigh*

Guest Canadian Wings Report post Posted October 29, 2007 People really have no faith in a Ozzie/Howard combo, eh? a goalie who hasn't started a nhl game is his career, and a goalie that would preform like manny legace in the playoffs im sure, no...maybe if osgood wasnt a back up for the last 5 years

Oh well, we'll see how it all pans out. Should be very interesting, to say the least.
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 oh, no... does this mean we're not going to go get Kipper? You mean we had a chance!?!? Guys, it wasn't going to happen. He would have commanded even more cash on the FA market if he didn't decide to take a Flames discount. 5.5-6M is CHEAP for Kiprusoff.

He would have commanded even more cash on the FA market if he didn't decide to take a Flames discount. 5.5-6M is CHEAP for Kiprusoff. clearly, not. But hope springs eternal for some, I think. I put my vote in for Ozzie/Howard next season, since I think that's our option. While some make the point that Ozzie won a Cup as starter, others can counterpoint that it was 10 years ago when that was the case. In any instance, Ozzie's not chopped liver, and the rest of the team is just loaded with talent, presuming we don't lose any major players over the summer. I am perfectly OK with Oz and Howard, provided Howard turns out to be the real deal. Won't know until he's tested, and it likely won't be this year, so that is a bit of a concern to me. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 Sorry, but there needs to be a little bit more commotion over this deal. 6 ******* million is a steal, downright highway robbery. The guy is a wall in the playoffs, and a proven contender. Thats just a sick deal for a perennial top 3 tender. This is basically like signing Lidstrom to a 5.5-6M deal. Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 29, 2007 No suprise here. I had a feeling Kipper would be a life long Flame. Good signing for the Flames. And for Kipper.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 According to NHL.com, 6 years at 5.83 per year. That is incredible. Hopefully this will stabilize the market a bit, at least for long term contracts.

And you know how we Detroit fans don't like to be kept wondering. Kipper probably would've refused to go here though. Who wants to face 10 shots a game? Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 29, 2007 no, i've been a wings fan since the early 90's i dont care what credentials osgood has in the past...he WILL NOT take this team to the Cup, period. Exactly. This isnt frickin 97 anymore. This is 2007. And in 2007, Chris Osgood is not a Stanley Cup winning goalie. Despite the fact that he's had a really good start. Let's see Ozzie keep these numbers up all season. I really like Ozzie as our backup. He's a great backup. But he is aboslutely not a great starter. And as soon as Dom is healthy, Osgood will once again be bumped to backup. And for damn good reason.
White Out 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 what i love most about this deal is that it stabliizes the FA market.. HOPEFULLY. Clowns like Kevin Lowe throw a stick of dynamite into the FA pool, in an attempt to bring the rest of the league down with their s***ty organization. You would never see Holland or Sutter be a bonehead.. and deals like this only help to keep players in cities they want to be in
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Osgood did great last year when he wasnt injured or recovering from injury. Hes done well so far this year. He won 20 games as a backup three years earlier. Theres nothing keeping him from going after another cup. Nothing. Hes showing hes got the skills - in fact, those skills were never absent for an extended period of time. All were seeing here is a guy that is playing good hockey, is healthy, and is playing for a team which he has confidence in and which has confidence in him. When Osgood is in a Wings sweater, he can win a cup. Frankly, its a crock of s*** to say that Osgood can't win a cup again.
