Hank 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 Yes. However, I don't watch the same things they watch (Like Best Damn Sports Show, baseball, basketball, American Idol, etc) so it would stand to reason that they would not find my interests interesting, even though they proclaim to be a sports show. Those guys are boneheads. Even Dan Patrick would talk baseball all day on his show while the Stanley Cup Finals are going on, and there's still four and half months of baseball left, but only 6 hrs of hockey left! I think a bigger question would be why, in all these years, has Hockey Night in Canada not had a Wednesday night show like "This Week in the NHL" or something to tide the Canadians over till Saturday nite? Just show highlights and talk hockey and some personal stories or behind the scenes kinda stuff. I'd love that. That's a good question. The answer is probably because Rogers Sportsnet and TSN (along with the NHL Network) cover it enough. But still, not all canadians get those stations and I know a lot of people that would like to see Ron MacLean more than once a week. I LOVE the Hotstove. It'd be fun to get a mid-week 'cooking' match going.
Izzy24 44 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 It amazed me that a sports show would be that far out of touch with one of the major sports Perhaps it's not really one of the major sports.

And it would be super easy to fill an hour or even two midweek with a Hotstove segment, highlights segment, etc.
RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 Anyone watch it? Uhh, I don't like to watch shows with such presumptious titles.. that and without the perpetually coked up and athletically challenged Tom Arnold it just isn't any fun to watch. Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 Anyone watch it? If you watched last night there was a game they played a game called "Ottawa Senator or U.S. Senator" where they said names and they had to "guess" (because none of them had any idea) if it was hockey or politics. There were 3 questions and almost all of them got them wrong. It seems to me that they are doing this for fun, saying noone knows or even cares about hockey. This really pissed me off, anyone else? Discuss The countdowns they have are fun sometimes, but for some reason no matter what they are counting down it always seems number 1 is that college football 13 lateral play where the band runs on the field that we have all seen a billion times. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Seriously people, this shouldn't be new to anybody in here. Hockey isn't the main squeeze in terms of sports entertainment and understanding, and it never will be for a long, long time, possibly never. Not everybody else has to like it or understand it, and we aren't going to change the opinions of those people anytime soon, whether they are unfair or right, snarky or not, so who cares what they say? You like it, I like it, all of us in here like it, quit focusing on the damn negatives. Why can't that ever be good enough to some people in here?

Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 I dont care that people dont take NHL as seriously as the top 3 other sports, thats good no pre-maddonas' no stupid bulls***.. But i would prefer for them to take it seriously enough to pronouce the players names right, show some key games of the season. and just show NHL some respect.. IMO, Hockey should surpass Baseball sometime, Baseball is so corrupted and slow and boring on the other hand, Hockey is aggressive, finnese, fast paced. exciting.. Hockey would be alot more liked if it was more aggresive more big time checking, more fighting.. not to mention more Americans.. Most people cant relate to Slavakov Pitelamegarzakov type names. a normal Tyler Peterson is something americans can relate to. My post? offtopic?sorta.. but mer idc

WINGS TILL DEATH 9 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's the best. Amen to that. I bet if Tom Yorke from Radiohead went on American Idol the judges wouldn't let him go to Hollywood whereas people who actually know music claim him and the band as one of the world's musical Idols. The same applies to sports networks and shows. Footballs popular and thats all ESPN talks about all day everyday. Finally a thought on what brings down hockey's popularity. Everyone can run, but not everyone can skate therefore hockey is the hardest to play and learn. Plus hockey players wear and use the most gear making it expensive. If you don't play the sport you kind of have a hard time enjoying it. There are some exceptions, but I think those reasons contribute to the lack of popularity in hockey. 2probert4 8 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 lol. naw im not sensetive about it. but like everyone else here i just wish hockey was more popular and didnt take such a bad rap. if your a sports show then make it a sports show. not just a baseball/basketball/football show. John Salley certainly knows who Ray Emery is, they had him on the show around the beginning of the season.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 Yeah - last I heard he married Ivana Kutyurcockov. Hehe. Looking at my records, I'm seeing she was also drafted by the Wings! Can you believe it? The Wings drafted a woman! Well, that's not really all that big of a deal. I mean, they did sign Samulesson and Lilja to contracts, and there both girls too... hehe.... eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 Amen to that. I bet if Tom Yorke from Radiohead went on American Idol the judges wouldn't let him go to Hollywood whereas people who actually know music claim him and the band as one of the world's musical Idols. That's because American Idol is a singing competition, where the primary factor in winning or losing is/should be vocal quality, based on covers of (usually) well known music. If it were a competition for best ORIGINAL music...you can be damn sure a young Yorke would make it. But that's a different animal.
