Draper suffers sprained left knee

Posted by George James Malik November 27, 2007 20:09PM

Detroit Red Wings forward Kris Draper suffered a sprained left knee during an attempt to finish a check on Owen Nolan in the Wings' end during the first period of the Red Wings' game vs. the Calgary Flames. Draper banged his right knee into the boards, between Nolan's legs, and his left knee apparently was "tweaked" as he fell to the ice.

This is all my friends falt! In sewing class the teacher said "drapes" and duh, I thought Draper. Since I couldn't talk I wrote his name down. She scribbled it out and I wrote "NOOO. You killed Draper! Now who's gonna take the face-offs and kill the penalties?!"...I blame her.

He better get better quickly! We need him on the PK and face-offs. :( At least he drove himself there, so that's a good sign.

They said that he drove himself to the hospital.. i guess that could be considered a good sign?

was it his left leg or right? because you don't use your left leg to drive unless you drive a stick. Im kinda worried thought Franzen had a Sprained Knee and was out for a month, and Drapes is alot older than Franzen so it could take him longer...

Hopefully he comes back ASAP we need him to win key face offs and on the PK. Can't replace a guy like Drapes.

that's what I was thinking!

hopefully he drives an automatic, so he didn't have to step on the clutch with a sprained knee... :P

I was watching the game with my dad and we both were cracking up when we heard that.I wonder if Draper's still stuck in the waiting room filling out forms! Someone should head over there.

Draper is so tough he probably rode a bycicle to the ER. :)

I need to stop posting before I have read the whole thread.

(Insert left-leg sprain good if manual transmission overdone line here.)

At first glance yes, but who knows.

When he went down like he did, I feared it was a tear. I tore my ACL playing basketball years ago and didn't really just collapse or fall down hard, but when I heard my knee pop as I collided with an opposing player, it was over.

However, if it's reported as just a sprain, that's good news in a way. Obviously not as bad as a tear, but sprains are such the biggest pain in the rear because they never completely go away. At least the sprain (or so I am assuming) isn't on the foot or ankle, those are the worst if it's a sprain I think.

Worst case scenario, I'd say he rests a little extra time than normal, for 3-4 weeks roughly, to give the knee extra rest and have any nagging pain go away as much as possible. Best case scenario in getting back on the ice quickly, I'd say he's out for a week or two.

They'll be fine, plenty of regular season left for other players to step up in an increased role and for the Wings to get more W's than L's.

Babcock, Wings worried about Draper's knee sprain

Posted by George James Malik November 28, 2007 09:37AM

The Detroit Red Wings lost a key-stone player in their 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames as Kris Draper suffered a sprained left knee:

November 28, Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings will be without Kris Draper indefinitely after he suffered a sprained left knee.

Draper drove himself to DMC hospital for an MRI exam after leaving with 1:20 left in the first period of the 5-3 victory over Calgary at Joe Louis Arena. Coach Mike Babcock did not have an update after the game, saying: "We're a little concerned right now, but we're hoping that things are going to be real good, and it won't be a big issue."

The last Red Wing to suffer a sprained knee, Johan Franzen, missed 10 games. Draper was injured when he got tangled with Owen Nolan along the boards; Draper's left leg buckled, and he dropped to the ice, where he lay for a few seconds until play was stopped.

That forced the Wings to shorten their bench.

"It hurts killing penalties," goalie Chris Osgood said. "Drapes is a reliable guy. We always know what he is going to do, and he can chip in with some goals."

November 28, Detroit News: "It's unfortunate," said Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom of Draper's injury. "He's been a key to our penalty killing. Hopefully, he'll get back soon for us."

John Hahn, Red Wings senior director of communications, said Draper drove himself to the hospital to get an MRI. The results will be known today.
