Another cheap shot from a Flyer

Just watched the video of the hit now....pathetic. You gotta wonder if the Flyers, as an organization are causing some of this. I know it is very, very difficult to suggest this, but if you look at this case as an example, there is absolutely no need to hit the player like that, all he had to do was skate in and throw a stiff shoulder and put him in the boards.

I agree about all the suspended players, and the flyers should be looked into as well. Heck I'm all for the guy sitting out his suspention and then what ever the guy inj is out. But to say the flyers orgn. is doing it on purpuse?? Long shot at best, now the coach that's who you go after.

Is it me or do all of the Flyers have the same answer when this comes up:

"It was stupid and I didn't mean to hurt any one I just wanted to make a hard hit."

Oh really well why in the hell is it that even though no one in the Flyers organization wants to hurt anyone, yet their version of hard physical hockey is the only version that leaves people in the ER with regularity.

As Hully said yes it happens, it is part of the game, it is unfortunate, but when you play stupid and dirty you are ruining the game and taking out some of its best players.

Thing that bothers me is that flyers fans on other boards seem to make themselves the victims, or that these hits are all ok. I think its very safe to say that on these boards our posters will say something dirty even if its us. I mean even the flyers announcers believe they are just "victims" I'm 100% sure that Redmond would condem any wing that does it to, for that matter most fans on other teams would.

The whole flyers thing is getting a little rediculous... as if the NHL isn't enough of a joke already the flyers somehow manage to throw a dirty hit every couple of games. I can't say whether or not it's their team phylosophy, or their coach's, but either way it's long past time for some disciplinary action. Regardless of whether or not it's being encouraged within the flyers organization, they deserve it purely on the basis that they aren't controling the animals they have on skates.

Food for thought: If a team wins a stanely cup, and nobody cares enough to watch it, did the team really win?

I say punishment will be once again.... 2 games max with a swift pat on the ass.... a bit harder and held in place a bit more on the cheek than Hartnel's pat.

Left his feet and threw an elbow. Nice.

Seriously, how many suspensions will this be for the Flyers in 25 games this year?

At what point is the league going to start penalizing the team? If you want it to stop, you've got to start hitting the coaches and organization with fines.

Disgusting, I had hopes for the Flyers being a truly entertaining team this year based on pre-season but this is just pathetic. Cheap shot after cheap shot something is definitely wrong with that team beyond having the biggest concentration of spineless losers in the league. Thank god the philly short bus isn't coming to Detroit this year.

I liked how it wasn't enough that it was late, he had to flail his arm at Niskanen's head too.

Well, I had no problem at all with the timing of the hit, you have to finish those types of checks, but the leaping elbow was just out of line.

The league handed Flyers forward Riley Cote a three-game suspension on Monday for his match penalty following a high head shot to Stars defenceman Matt Niskanen Saturday night.

"I talked to (Bettman) today," Holmgren told the Philadelphia Daily News. "He thinks, like I do, that these are different coincidences, different situations, that have to be viewed differently, but the question was raised about ramifications if it happens again.

"So obviously we're under watch."

Downie 20 shots for a head shot on McAmmond

Boulerice 25 games for a crosscheck to the head of Kesler

Jones 2 games for hit from behind on Bergeron

Hartnell 2 games for the headshot to Alberts while he was on his knees.

now 3 game for Cotes jumping elbow to the head

The Flyers have racked up 52 total games suspended in 25 games played.

The thing that kills me is that Hartnell got fewer games than Cotes and to me Hartnell's hit was at least as bad. Albert dropped to his knees to play the puck, and Hartnell followed through and hip checked/elbowed his head to the boards.

This quote from the Flyers GM kills me too, especially if it's true about Bettman.

"I talked to (Bettman) today," Holmgren told the Philadelphia Daily News. "He thinks, like I do, that these are different coincidences, different situations, that have to be viewed differently, but the question was raised about ramifications if it happens again.

A series of coincidences? Jones hit was the only one that was really a matter of circumstance. Every other play was a cheapshot, and most were guys "following through" on checks with headshots. How is this not a team problem?
