haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Did you really think this would end any other way? I hoped. It's too bad that old-time pond hockey has to end in such a manufactured spectacle.

edicius 3,269 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Of course. Crosby scores the game winner in a shootout. I'm getting the feeling this whole game was manufactured just for that.

edicius 3,269 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 "What a move!" Eh...I think that was more Miller's failure to complete the poke check than a great shot by Crosby. But, whenever.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Both teams are winners as far as I am concerned. Wouldn't you know, who got the GWG? Could this have turned out better, if you're Bettman?
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Man I was really hoping for the Buffalo fans that the home team would win. Good game. I could really tell in the shootout how slow the puck was moving.

I thought it was a pretty nice move. He saw the 5 hole open and made a quick shot to snap it through. The crosby love this game was ridiculous though. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 No real game analysis from me or anything like that but... Pretty brutal scheduling this outdoor game for this day, in terms of a competitive standpoint with the myriad of college football bowl games to get casual viewers. However, if the casual viewer tuned into chunks of this game, he/she got their time's worth for an exciting and complete hockey game, to at least understand some of the rules and concepts going in to determining a game's outcome, as well as to see how cool of a game this is. The casual fan also saw the downfalls of an outdoor game with the major delays, but I don't think that will be a major deterrant on the exciting action he/she saw and how great of a fan atmosphere it was. While I'm not encouraging outdoor games in such a setting to be a regular activity with the many delays that were experienced, I'd definitely be all for it once or twice a year in different venues. That had to make it nearly impossible to deke.

sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 well as long as crosby keeps scoring the game winner in the 3rd round of a shootout after a great game in which he had an assist on his teams only goal, the "all hail the great and powerful crosby" talk will not stop. it doesn't bother me too much although i can see where some would get annoyed. great game. great finish. Crosby is good. and if talking him up until were blue in the face brings more fans to hockey, so be it. now on to Mich Florida. GO BLUE.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 You're probably right, I just can't be objective right now...stupid NBC. I'm a pretty big fan of the kid, though I don't get to see him play much, and even I was sick of them falling all over themselves to praise him. They showed that replay of him batting the puck into the air at least 15 times. That being said, every time I do see him play he's a factor out there on every shift, and has the hussle and work ethic of Kris Draper.
lfd250 1 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Sorry kids, I thought the game was BORING! To many stops to fix the ice. To resurface the ice. And I'm surprised you could hear the announcers since the had Crosby's *$ in their mouth the whole time praising him. Funny how it ended with him winning it. OR IS IT? Miller not do a poke check, come on. But I watched so I could say I saw it and help the NHL with it's ratings.

I ended up watching Michigan and Florida. Switching back between the two. I am hoping Illinois beats up on USC in the Rose Bowl! On a side note-I didn't think Crosby scored that shootout goal the first time I saw it. I thought he whiffed on it, but I am glad the replay showed something different. I was ready to start my NHL/Sidney Crosby conspiracy!
