SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 I don't think many people on the Wings or Wings fans are missing him right now, given how well the team is doing so far. I was never one to constantly dive into the Lang Is Lazy And He Sucks Fan Club where all you talk about is how Lang is Lazy and He Sucks and nothing else (even though I sound like I'm part of this retarded club ), the ripping on him was so over the top sometimes that it got to be comical, but you could pretty much tell his relationship at least with Coach Babcock seemed to go downhill as the season went on. It was time for the Wings and Robert Lang to part ways this offseason.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 but I still think this team could use more nastiness on D, and a seasoned scorer on that second line. That or hopefully someone on that 2nd line will establish themselves as a constistent postseason threat on the 2nd line. That's what the deadline is for. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 That's what the deadline is for. Agreed. Oh, and lang scored two third-period goals as the hawks beat the Preds and won their fourth straight game. Say what you will about the guy, but an awful lot of the goals he scores are clutch. Elshupacabra 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 I miss my jaw dropping after he would score his occasional goal and yelling "he CAN score goals! I didn't think it was possible!" I don't miss his "rather turn the puck over then move my legs two extra times" attitude though.
imisssergei 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 I was going to say that you spoke too soon, but amazingly, you typed that at a point in time where 3/4 of the goals scored in tonights game were by them. They have gotten better and better all season. I was going to say Hudler especially (24 points in 35 games), but Filppula has elevated his game with 7 goals in the last 9 games. Are these not 2nd line numbers? It also amazes me that anyone at all can look at the best offense, defense, goaltending, and individual performances, together on one team, and clamour for more. Settle! I was thinking about that post while watching the game. Believe me, I'd love to eat big time crow on this one. However, you don't become a legit scoring threat by putting up the numbers that Flip and Rex are on pace for. Lang had put up, and was/is capable of putting up much bigger numbers than he did last season. So far, neither Rex nor Flip have shown that they can put up big numbers. Especially when it matters most, playoffs. Don't get me wrong, I think both these guys can, and will develop into legit scorers. But it won't be this season, and maybe not even next year. While the Wings are rolling through the regular season, I keep having nightmares about the famed 62 win campaign.

Settle! its all about post April 8th when our big guns go into hybernation... its a sad cycle that has gripped us for many years over the past 30 season. Its called other teams step it up... we remain on cruise control and get passed.

Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 It's good that Lang left, it gave our young guys more ice time, but we should give him some credit, not that he played well all the time, but was quite good in 2007 playoffs.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 I would miss him if he was as effective as he is in Chicago. If he was this effective in Detroit, he'd be a great second line center.

The dude had the talent, it's just he took so many shifts off. made Kovalev look like Yzerman.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 I always answer that question with a resounding "yes", but now that I see that he's happy in Chicago, and they like him, and that he's playing better there (although that could be by comparison to his teammates), I have to agree that it was time for him to leave the Wings. Kind of like getting an invite to an ex-boyfriend's wedding. Bittersweet. Best of luck to him in Chi (unless they're playing us, natch) and all the best in his personal life and to his family.
