Away fans good or bad?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Being a Purdue student I have seen every Big 10 team come and play in W. Lafayette. Although I don't mind away fans usually, some school's fans are just over the top.

I am going to the wings game on sunday, I have been debating on whether it is in good taste to wear all my wings gear, especially since my ticket has been purchased by a 'hawks fan.

Although I will be thoughly enjoying watching the wings smash the 'hawks. I don't know how to behave, especially with the origin of my ticket.

What do you all think?

P.S. I understand that ND is not in the big10, but at 0-5 they were still claiming that they are the best team in the nation....

I always find it more fun to go to games and cheer for the away team regardless of the sport. I guess it's the adrenaline I get from not knowing if I'll make it through the game.

I went to the Michigan - Minnesota football game two years ago at the Metrodome and sat right in the middle of the student section. Boy was that an adventure.

You have to wear all the gear. If you are going into enemy teritory you have be sure to let them know who you are behind. On top of it, you will find a ton of wings fans at the game. A lot of Detroit born people are now in Chitown and love coming out to the games to see the wings.

last year the crowd was almost pure redwing fans, i expect it to be different tomorrow, the current hawks fans are bandwagoners just like all the sports fans in illinois, probably the only true blackhawks fans are the ones from iowa wisconsin and indiana

Bust your Wings gear out!!! I went to the Avs/Wings game last Thursday and you wouldn't believe how much support the Wings had in Colorado..... There are Wings fans are everywhere!

PS - I hope ND means North Dakota.

Always wear your colors to road games. Always.

I generally set a few rules for myself - be vocal but only in support of my team, never heckle the enemy, that sort of thing.

exactly ... it's not the outfit that makes visiting fans objectionable, it's the behavior ... cheer, but don't be a jackass ... have good hockey talk with opposing fans, but don't talk s*** ... basically the kind of behavior that separates "good" visiting posters on these boards from the trolls that seem to show up at playoff time just to start trouble ...

Exactly. If you wear the visiting team's jersey and you're not a jackass, people will generally be cool with you. Hell, I've worn MSU stuff to Michigan games and never had a problem, since I didn't act like a jerk.

Would you have the same adivce for opposing fans going to Raiders games? Just try to bust out that road jersey in the "Black Hole" ;)

My brother wore his Colts gear there. He still lives. He also wore his Pacer gear to MSG back when that rivalry was hot.
