auxlepli 17 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 OMFG! Really Mitch Albom? Maybe if he wrote about hockey more he'd know these things. I'm surprised he took time to write one about it. Somebody criticized Albom using that technique where he repeats a sentance or phrase ever other paragraph, and now I'm inclined to agree with that person. Albom over uses it. It's a cheep and lazy way to write. To say Chris Chelios is still skating is a blinding fact of the obvious. Is there still room on Albom-hating bandwagon? I'm ready to climb aboard. Damn! I went back to try to push through reading it, previously I had only gotten to the second still skating, and noticed I missed the editors note. Editor's note: This story originally printed during last year's playoffs Now I don't even feel it's worth it. I mean if the Free Press can't get its writers to write something new to read, even though I missed this article last season, is it even worth me reading? To hell with the Freep too for regurgitating this article.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 The amazing thing about Chelios: The Wings acquired him at age 37, and sometime earlier this season he reached the point where he's now played more games for the Wings than either the Habs or Hawks. vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Gotta hand it to Cheli. I remember the trade and his reaction. I also remember my reaction. I thought I was going to vomit. Took me three years to get used to seeing him in a Wings uni, but now I have nothing but respect for the guy. How lucky we are as Wings fans to see some truly dedicated and talented players. Yemack 1 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 We are SOOOOOOO lucky to have him in our uniform. The crowd gave him standing ovation last night and he really deserved it. He doesn't get much spotlight thesedays but he still is #2~3 defenseman just behind Nick in this team. He just is a ultimate competitor and outstanding defensman. I really want Cheli and Lid to keep playing until 50s. As for reprint, it's a shame and they really should come up with something to honour Cheli's service. Wow, really? Up until now, I had always just identified him as a Blackhawk that joined the Wings for a bit. But now, thinking about it, he's truly a Red Wing through and through. The man's been with us for nearly a decade.

Not quite...I did this quick, but it can't be far off, if at all: Chicago: 664 GP Detroit: 521 GP Montreal: 402 GP If not for the lockout, we'd be passing the Blackhawks sometime next season... I am a f***tard. Hey now, I said to myself. This clown C-Town, WTF does he know? Who's he to question my research skills? I added this up my damn self and came up with the right numbers. But I decided to double check before I came out all Turns out I added up the points column when I was trying to count games. But only for Chicago. Hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Anyway, my original point was, and remains, this: Screw the Blackhawks.

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 What's to stop Chelios from skating? Certainly not age. Although tying his skates together might cause him to pause a bit. Congrats to Cheli, and many more years in the Winged Wheel.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 I was at the Colorado game where Chelios got the standing ovation. It was one of the coolest things I've seen while actually at a hockey game. The fame Chelios has is well-deserved, and considering many think of him as one of the greatest American hockey players, not even considering his special circumstances (age), you'd think a Detroit paper could churn out a new 100 word article that most half-talented writers can pump out in 3 minutes. You'd certainly think so. How many times has been on the US mens team, the US Olympic team, and not to mention, the Captain!?!. And its not like he's just kicking field goal's for Christ's sake, (no disrespect to George Blanda) the guy is playing HOCKEY at the highest levels possible! I'm 2 years younger than he is and my knees and ankles are so bad I can hardly make it to the frikkin bathroom in the morning, how does he do it!?!
