Agreed; Hudler would be my choice to let go as well...We need Franzen's big body, & defensive awareness in the playoffs.

I agree. If you give it some thought it's really not a tough choice.

It can't be Flip because he has shown great offensive talent and excellent defensive play. This guy will be a superstar.

Forget getting rid of Cleary because his work ethic in probably #1 on the entire team and he is offensively gifted as well as a very grity player.

So that leave Rex and Mule. Rex is probably more talented offensively but Mule is big and phyisical while Huds is neither of these. so it really has to be Huds.

But I really wouldn't want to lose any of the four especially not for one of the washed up guys that keep poping up on this board like Feds, Foppa, etc.

Of the four, it has to be Franzen. He's not a top six forward, he has been disappointing physically, and his defense doesn't make him stand out from the rest of our forwards.

However, I think you are projecting those players' salaries too high. The combined cost for the four of them should not exceed 8m in their next contracts.

Filpulla shows some great potential so trading him would be stupid. Cleary and Franzen are able to play physical game and we need this element. So that leaves us Hudler, so if I had to I would trade him, but wouldn't like that.

I'd go:

1) Hudler

2) Franzen

3) Flip

4) Cleary

Hudler would garner significantly more than Franzen in a trade, and would need to go for something we lack throughout the organization. Hint: small, unphysical skill guy isnt it. Franzen before Flip is a no brainer...and i choose Cleary last because he's one of those heart and soul guys you absolutely need in the playoffs.

I have to pick Franzen. He is a good player who shows up in the big games. He can hit and score some big goals but is not consistent enough on the goal scoring end. I love his size and his grit, however, he is not as good as the other three.

The other three are putting up some great numbers this years. None of them have fewer then 24 points. Cleary is going out on the ice and is playing a physical game and can score goals as well. Hudler, well everytime he is on the ice something decent seems to happen. And Flipp, well did you see the goal that he scored the other night? That boy is going to be a great player down the road. He might be right around the corner from becoming a superstar in this league.

Again, i'm a huge Franzen fan but i guess if i had to pick from that group he would be the one i would have to part with.

hudler THEN filppula ?? tell me your kidding lol :P

I really don't like Hudler. He rubs me the wrong way. In fact, if we didn't have to trade him I'd just cut him. :ranting:

I remeber back in 2006 when you didnt really like Danny :P, I'm glad you've changed your mind.

I'd have to say Franzen or Hudler, Franzen when he isnt producing should be hitting hard, the man is 6'3, he should be crushing guys. Hudler, well, I just dont see him having much sucess in the playoffs when the big mean players start doing whatever they want to win a cup.

Cleary and Flip are untouchable IMO.

Franzen doesn't even use his physical size to give us the physical player we need. So you can't use that to determine who would go

Yep, up until last year's playoffs i wasnt at all sold on Cleary....but that changed! Agree on Hudler in the playoffs, i just dont see him being a producer then either.

Franzen

Huds

Cleary

Flip

Franzen just hasn't been very good. Like other I wouldn't want tog et rid of him unless I had to as he has at least a bit of potential, but I think he's of the least value (not that he's not valuable). I absolutely love cleary and would hate to get rid of him but I wouldn't lose him over Flip if my life depended on it. Flip is going to be an amazing player in the next few years. His goal last night, like said above, was so absolutely ridiculously amazing I can't add in enough adverbs.

Why can't we trade Sammuelson, Kopecky, or Lilja?

But I have to be honest. Franzen never struck me as a player to keep around long-term. He occasionally has his moments, but so does every other nhl player, and what he brings to the table isn't tough to find out there.

Hudler has a shot that reminds me of a young Karyia, and if we can harness and utilize that, then we'll have our sniper that everyone's been hunting for.

Filpulla is the next Datsyuk/Zetterberg (or as close as we're going to get, at least), and he's playing with alot of confidence and smarts out there. If he keeps up his progress I wouldn't be surprised to see him as an alternate captain/captain after the Zetterberg era, providing we have him that far down the road.

Cleary is our grinder. Someone we can rely on to get dirty in the corners and in front of the net. Hes not always going to get the pretty goals, but in the playoffs they're too few and far between anyway.

Filppula before Franzen? Seriously?

1. Hudler

2. Franzen

3. Cleary

4. Flip

Cleary and Flip is hard to chose between, i'd let go Cleary first tho as Flip obviously is younger with a better upside.

Is this about salary issues, not who to trade for X commodity?

In that case nobody. We have ~$5M and the cap may raise (likely not as much as last year, but we'll see), so basically I'd count Flip as the untouchable out of those four. Franzen doesn't play big like someone else said, and there are better options to cut before Hudler (Heck no!) and Cleary (No phaneufing way!)

1) Franzen - guys with size who play a mildly physical game and score a few goals are much easier to find *cheaply* than

2) Guys who can put the puck in the net like Jiri Hudler. There is a reason why goalscorers get paid the most money

3rd equal Flip/Cleary. DC has the heart of a warrior, and some decent skills to go with it. What I wouldn't give for another one of him come April. Flip is maturing into an elite 2-way player in the Brindamour/Lehtinen mould.
