Is Bab's a little shook?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I am currently watching the Toronto and San Jose game and there was a clip right before the start of the second. It was Bab's getting interviewed and a reporter had asked him, "How do you feel about those late goals the last two nights, do you think that is a problem?" And Bab's waived him off and asked if anybody had anymore questions and walked off. Is he a little worried? Pissed off?

I am just saying usually he is pretty good at keepin his compouser but slacked a little tonight. What do you guys think???

I totally understand him being upset. I just am not sure he chose the right question to get ruffed about. He is the face of the team...

Then again I can "overreact" sometimes so maybe I should just have mercy?

haven't seen the clip, but i've seen babs short with ppl before. guarantee he's a little miffed at the play of his team tonight as a whole. didn't really execute, and i assure you that's the only thing that matters to the man. wouldn't read too much into it, matter of fact i like the sounds of babs all pssy. maybe he'll lite a fire under the boys. :sly:

As a coach, I’m sure any goal is a problem, especially late goals. Fortunately it’s the middle of the season and any problems can be worked on and addressed before the playoffs. Every loss should be looked at as a learning experience and something that came be used to improve this teams weakness.

I hope Babs starts dressing Downey more if he isn't going to play Kopecky at all because it seems all the wings losses have been because they are getting hit, today was no different except I'd say half way through the 2nd the Wings started hitting back.

I am all for playing Downey, he brings energy and that was what the Wings lacked tonight. Right now the lines are unbalanced, and Babs knows it. They were all over the place tonight and no line was effective. He needs to get back to what got us all of these W's.

Z-D-H

Rex-Flip-Sammy

Maltby-Draper-Cleary

Stein-Kopper-Drake/Downey (alternate)

And play with the chemistry of the 2,3,4 lines. I know Homer and Maltby are not at 100% and it shows (Malts is closer than Homer) but the #1 line needs to get back together and rolling, if not now then after the ASG to get steamrolling into the playoffs.

Downey = Win

It's a simple formula, he hasnt played the past 2 games and we've played bad.

Kopecky is the most useless player I've seen in a while. I'm all for giving a guy a shot, but he doesnt use his body, he doesnt score goals, anything. Give his minutes to Downey and have a useful crash and bang line.

And seriously, either put the big line back together, or Filpula-Datsyuk-Cleary because the scoring lines look lost for the most part out there.

I'm not even trying to debate whether Kopecky is good because I think eventually he could turn himself into a decent player, but I mean if your going to give him a fighters mins., you might as well just put a fighter in.

Kopecky and Sammy have got to go. I haven't seen anything beyond: A) losing the puck, or B) Falling Down, when it comes to that giant we call #82, and Sammy... yeah

I've lost my patience for the guy, love him or not. And if Babs is shook, then the Wings' front office had better be, again, taking some notes.

I half-hoped for the game to finish this way, if it could get any of them to think "You know, maybe winning in the regular season isn't the same as winning in a grind-it-out, beat-em-up playoff series." Don't know if it will, but it's a hope!

I am happy to hear that Babcock is pissed.

Last night was the first one in a long time that he was outcoached. Usually our players are much more prepared and our execution levels are much much higher.

Senators really came out flying. But! we were no where near where we needed to be at the start of the game.

The way our players skate first minute of the game, I knew it was going to be another Minnesota game. It was such a disappointing and maddening feeling as a fan. Because players said all the right things before the game and really showed nothing for it in the game. It brought a lot of painful memories like Edmonton series and I really wondered is there another early exit in playoff in store for us this year.

Also our weakness in PK is exposed again! We got burnt in San Jose series and last night almost payed for it as well. Our players really need to watch the backdoor when other team has a skilled passer

I agree that last night was the one Babcock needed to dress Downey or Ellis. Most of our players looked like they were on flu for first part of the game.

Seriously, cmon guys, it was one game and even though it could have been blowout, guys showed some good effort in the 3rd period. We cannot win all games and loosing can help sometimes. I really do belive we will see different team against Atlanta on 15th. And those pesimistic posts like "is there another early exit in playoff in store for us this year" are ridiculous.

well I am not predicting that sky is falling and we are going to lose in first round but the way it played out last night reminded me about that incident. Did we and hockey world ever think that we were going to lose against Edmonton in that series? THAT would have been considered a pessimist. Now you have to look at it as a possibility especially the way we came out flat when we needed to. Like the coach says 'there is a very fine line between winning and losing now' our biggest weapon is work ethic and when other teams take it away from it, anything can happen.

Before you think I lost my mind, no I don't think (or hope) that we will get early boot.

this is what i particularly like about a seven game series, as a team you evolve from game to game. you can't really take much from this one, boys did come out a little flat but really picked it up late. wasn't enough, but someone made some adjustments and that's what i enjoy seeing. i believe we've been in a little funk of late, and it wouldn't surprise me if several of the players were feeling a little under the weather. not making excuses here, just speculating. no need to panic and call for heads to roll. the fact that the final score was 3-2 is encouraging in itself. just as we may have exposed a weakness or two of our own, there's no doubt ottawa may have as well.

as a side note, i'm not sure who'd the organization could replace either sammy or kopy (let alone both) with at this point. love to hear your suggestions.

Talk about overeacting!. It's 1 game in January, two if you count the Minny game. Early playoff exit!? Based on the last 2 games?

Our PK exposed!? It's 5th in the league. Are you on drugs?

Kopecky not scoring isnt a big issue if he's playing consistantly physical....but he's not. That needs to be his role on the team and it seems to be one that he's not natural at and/or not embracing. There was a small stretch of games, after being scratched and told by Babs he needed to be more physical, that he really started laying the body alot. It made you think there might be something there for a decent 4th liner. Now its totally disappeared again and he's once again looking totally useless and invisible. Others have thrown this name around but i'd love to see Chris Gratton have his spot.

I almost wonder if they shouldn't have sat Z for the OTT game. That's not a knock on him by any means, but with the flu, he couldn't have been 100%.

The one thing about the Wings is when we're without key players, the others step up. No one stepped up against Ottawa. Hindsight is 20/20, but maybe they'd have come out with a bit more fire had Z taken the night off to get well.

Lets look at this shall we

Aaron Downey GP = 29 (including a loss to the blues)

Red Wings Wins = 33

Just saying!

I'm totally taking your word for your interpretation of that, but it reminds me of a perfectionist being reminded of the fact that he's not perfect. As a Vancouver fan, it also makes me feel good. If a coach is that bothered by losing a game to a pretty good team, then it's not a stretch to think that his mood is one of over-confidence.

"We're so good that we can't lose. If we do, I throw a temper tantrum and won't talk to you."

Good on you Babcock. Stanley Cup playoff history is littered with teams that underachieved.

Oh how true it is! As much as I love Dally I think Downey does more in the sence of physicality! Maybe our boys fell they can just play the game and not feel like they're gonna get killed. I'm not saying our guys are pansys or anything though.

Ok, so 28 wins with Downey and 1 loss? Is that what your telling me? If so, pretty good win to loss ratio...

I know you're just yanking his chain, but surely you cannot be serious in your other post where Downey = win all the time. As much as I like the guy, the itching to see him play gets a little bit ridiculous on here sometimes despite the team winning more often than not. And while I doubt you were seriously implying this, but to think he's directly responsible or the main contributor for a majority of the Wings' wins is absolutely silly.
