Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Little bummed to hear that Rod Blake's ankle is busted and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks before rehab. What other D-man options are still out there?

Dan Boyle (although he has injusry issues of his own)

Adam Foote

Hal Gill

Skrastins

Jackman (Barret)

Pressing

Stuart

nope....blake is out.

stuart isnt a bad idea, more along the lines as our 5th or 6th defenseman (covering for kronner)

but i am still a firm believer of going after hossa

i think his dynamic abilities will allow us to put up more goals per game and severly disrupt anyone trying to successfully cover our stars.

i know, extremely pricey....but think of this....hasek, chelios and lidstrom arent getting any younger and the chance of a cup are better this year than next.

I didn't even want Blake on the Wings before his injury. Zero interest now.

Agreed. Wings don't need Blake, especially for the price the Kings are likely to ask for. Which might come down after the injury, counterintuitively making the injury make Blake more desirable, but really, Blake isn't the kind of trade the Wings need to make. For starters I'd much rather see them trade for a forward at the deadline rather than a defenseman.

I'd take Blake over Lilja, even if he had a f'n peg leg. I almost threw up when I heard someone say he is one over their top p.k.ers during a game. How could the guy with the most pims be a top p.k.er unless it's because their stronger when he's off the ice. I have seen improvement from him but he always overshadows it with bad penalties and giveaways. Lebda can at least carry the puck into the zone, he makes bad plays but isn't as much a liability as Lilja but neither of those guys are a top 4. We lost last year because our D got shut down with injuries, lets not go in this year with a couple of scrubs playing too many minutes putting all the pressure on 4 other guys with Kronners health already failing.

I don't know what the Kings were asking before the injury, but I'm sure it can't be the same anymore. If we can get him cheap, I don't see why we don't try to get him. Minimal risk if we can get him cheap and high pay out if he can still play. If his salary is too high, that could be a problem if we did trade for him and he didn't pan out.

Huh? Lilja is the top shot blocker on the team. Noody else is close. That's why he's one of our top pk'ers. The only D-man that was out was Schneider whom we replaced with Rafalski (a definite upgrade). And Kronvall was out before the playoffs started but will be healthy this year. Blake over Lilja? I would consider it but Lilja is a $1M a year player and Blake is at leaset $3M. You aren't going to get Blake cheaply. Would you take Blake and give up Lilja, Hudler and some picks because that is what it would cost.

I'll pass.

If you want a cup it's gonna cost you. More than likely LA wouldn't even want Lilja back so it would be someone else. He can't block shots from the box and when he's on the opposite end of the ice when gives away the puck throwing himself to the ground won't help anybody. What I said was he's not a top 4 d-man, the only reason he's good on the pk is because the other team is already in front of our net so he can't give them the chance to create a breakaway. I'm just not comfotable with him being a top 4, that being said he would probably take Lebdas spot if he was still here. If he sucked he wouldn't be here, but I just feel he's not going to handle the pressure come play offs with that many minutes.

Can't say I watch a lot of Avs hockey, but my top choice would be Skrastins, if for no other reason than that he's a horse - plays lots and rarely gets hurt. No idea what he makes, or if Colorado is looking to deal (I think they're in the playoffs as the standings are now). Stuart maybe, but it seems to me that he disappoints anywhere he goes, and being a young guy, he'd probably be expensive as a rental. Foote would likely be an improvement over Blake, but I feel like Chelios already fills his role. Again, can't say I follow his movements closely out there in Columbus, so I'll concede to someone else on that....

Little does anyone remember that the wings traded for Ulf Samuelsson a week after he broke his ankle at the 99' trade deadline.

I wouldn't be surprised if they get blake. Cheaper price and 3 weeks is the deadline, 3 weeks he should be close to returning.

Sounds good to me!

Lilja's not just a penalty killer, he's a "KILLER" period.
