redwings56 1 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 I think Ozzie will get all the starts, maybe only one game will be played during this time. But If Ozzie has a bad game I would really like to see Howard in. Remeber when Dom went down earlier this year and Ozzie played outstanding during that time. I would much rather see Dom in net during playoffs, so let's hope he gets better soon.

wings_fanatic 677 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Well the way the articles were worded, it seems as though this is just a rest for Dom... they only go on the road to play 1 game, tomorrow night, so I think they called up Howard to bring with them just in case something happens, that way Dom could stay home and rest. It seems as though Dom is expected to be back Friday, at the Joe against Columbus, or latest by Sunday,,, so no worries. Unlike what the idiots on NBC said... Detroit does not have to worry about goal tending... but I think once Dom comes back he will basically be a full time goalie for the rest of the season so this is just for percautionary measures... See yah this weekend DOm...
Offsides 21 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Cleary will be fine for the playoffs. Its a broken jaw not a head transplant. Haha. 6-8 weeks brings us right up to playoff time and it makes me nervous that he won't play in those games, or he might not make it back in time. Thank goodness it's not one of those nagging injuries like after a head transplant though.
Guest Canadian Wings Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I had theorized that something wasn't quite right when he came up slow before giving up the OT GWG to Toronto over the weekend. This might have been it. no, that was just him flopping around like a fish.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I hope Howard and Osgood split the games played between them. If anything, this could be the motivation the Wings have lacked lately. Having an AHL goalie behind you tends to make you play with more of a sense of urgency throughout the entire 60 minutes. Not to mention Jimmy will get more nhl experience in. I know we are ahead by quite a few points but i would rather just not give away games. Here is to Ozzy going Iron Man!!!
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 It'd be nice if they actually play Howard this time around. I keep hearing so much about the guy in GR, so it'd be nice to see what he can do in the NHL.
Superman54 91 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) Id like to see Howard play vs Jackets but I doubt it will happen Is this goalie suppose to take over next year if Hasek retires (Which I hope he does, love him, but must move on) If Howard STILL isnt ready, sign Kolzig!!! He needs a cup!!! Then 09 season Howard comes in perfect plan Edited February 12, 2008 by Superman54

Then 09 season Howard comes in perfect plan Kolzig will, more than likely, finish his career in DC, and even if he doesn't, I doubt he's really someone that can take the Wings anywhere. He's old, and at times this season, is being supplanted by Brent Johnson, the backup in Washington. Maybe if Kolzig wants to be the backup, but I seriously doubt that he does. He's already publicly made his displeasure known this season when he get's pulled. Edited February 12, 2008 by Kp-Wings

interminded 1 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Calm down, people.. Dom will be ready for the playoffs. He doesn't need a hip transplant. He's breathing on his won. He still has his own hair. He feels warm en cold. We don't need Kolzig, Luongo, Dafoe, Theodore or anybody else to have a succesfull playoff run. Calm down.

I could just imagine the way some treat Hasek what would happen if we had Kolzig. If we were to pick up anyone that could possibly be available for next year I would go for Rayzor! Sure they say he has attitude but he is good and I think Babs could calm him down and we could get atleast 2 fights a year from him. That being said I believe Dom will be back next season. If they have such a successful rotation and not having to play so many games, I think he will hang for a bit. I disagree that we do need a Loungo to make a playoff run, only becuase we do have the best two goaltenders in the league at this time. A good goalie makes all the differance. I cannot think of one SCC in the last five years that did not have a goalie that was on his game 100%. I am not a huge fan of Howard and I definitly don't think he is the next chosen one. Maybe I am wrong but he is not having a very good year with the grifs.

His son is planning to attend Michigan State in the Fall, another reason for the family to stick around in Michigan. That oughta make a few people's heads explode around here... Opie 308 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I have no problem with Dom and Ozzie next season, if it is handled like this season. This has proven to be the best option for the team. Allowing Dom to have his typical early season struggles and get Ozzie some ice time to get in a groove. I also think it would give J-ho another year to develop, as much as a J-ho supporter I have been and I do want him to be in the net for the Wings for a long time to come, goalies have a habit of developing later than other players. Another year would not hurt, I just don't want to see them give up on him, or him give up hope on making the team. But if he sits there for too long it could be like a Liv situation where I think mentally he was broken down because he never got a shot, nor a real opportunity to make the team. Every time their was a need for a goaltender the wings looked outside first (not knocking the process) and brought in a highly paid netminder. Another year for J-ho couldn't hurt and if Dom doesn't return, then you have Ozzie and J-ho next year and possibly J-ho and Ozzie to follow the season after. (first name starter second back up)

(first name starter second back up) I totally agree with your assessment on Jimmy, from what I know about him - which is little more than what was said about him in Training Camp (all good). Correct me if I am wrong, but my impression is that the GR team hasn't been so wonderful in front of him this season. Much as I love the Dom, I would like to see Detroit with a long-term solution in goal. They've done what they had to, pretty much, in the past couple of seasons due to the cap and other issues -- but if Howard has the goods, he will have to prove it when he's called upon. Whenever that is.

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) Both guys are technically "stuggleing" in the midst of this minor slump. After all we did lose with both in. How about our forwards get their heads out of the asses and light the lamp at the other end. Edited February 12, 2008 by OsGOD

Hell spice the later rotation of defense up a bit to, dear god Lids cannot be on the ice the entire game!

Last 3 games for each: Osgood 9 GA Hasek 5 GA Neither of those are bad, defense is a team sport, five goals up in the LA game but it happens.
