Jarret Stoll

On an under performing Edmonton team, that could definitely use some picks after losing their number 1 in the Penner deal, had a decent year in 05-06, but hasn't torn it up in Edmonton - Right handed shot and not too expensive at 2.2, still pretty young and TONS of upside, decent size and pretty scrappy, would make a good 2nd line guy

Could probably get him for a pick and a prospect

thoughts?

I only seeing Stoll going to a team that

A) nevermind I was being an asshat!!!

B) is willing to send a lot back to EDM

Neither of those categories do I see Det falling into.

I think Holland will hold onto pieces like Huds, Flip, Lils, and Lebda.

While I wouldn't mind seeing him trade Huds or Lils for a major piece (Hossa ie) Stoll is not that major of a piece and I think EDM would be dumb not to ask for Huds or Flip in return as they are more likely to be a cheaper option for EDM, who will probably look to make another splash in the RFA or UFA market.

Hasn't he been in the doghouse a lot this year? If so, then why would we want Edmonton's leftovers?

I dont know...I watch the guy play every other night here in Edmonton and he always gives a Dan Cleary like effort and has a hell of a shot (nice to replace Sammy on the 2nd PP?). MacTavish is a s***ty coach - I wouldn't bank too much on his opinion of the guy.

Stoll is a potential 20 goal 50-60 pt man in this league. He had some concussion problems last year and this year he seems off, but the year before he had 60+pts and he's still young. I'd be willing to send a couple picks or prospects for him.

By that logic, isn't anyone who is available in the trade market someone's leftovers? If they are available, they don't fit into the team's plans for the future.

Also, by that logic, St. Louis never picks up Brett Hull from Calgary. He was in the Flames doghouse and wasn't going to get out any time soon.

Edmonton needs more from Stoll than what they are getting this year. That's not necessarily to say he hasn't delivered, but they need more points production. Perhaps in Detroit where scoring isn't such an issue he's better able to just be Jarret Stoll. Hard working, excellent on face-offs, fast, tough, team player.

You're right, why would the Wings want that.

that was my exact train of thought, I think he would be a great fit here...

I wouldn't call Sundin or Hossa leftovers.

Neither would I. Players are moved to make both teams better in the eyes of the GM. Sometimes they are looking to get better in the short term and sometimes better in the long term. Sometimes they trade because they can't afford to lose an asset to UFA, sometimes they trade because of depth (too much or lack thereof). Once the trade is done, the second guessing can begin.

I don't think Jarret Stoll will ever be a leading offensive threat on any team. But I think he is a second to third line player that would be a good fit on any team and a particularly good asset to the Wings based on my perceptions of what the Wings are missing to be a Cup winner (and its not much).

Edmonton will want a roster player or a prospect and some picks for Stoll. They'll want someone with speed and they'll want someone who's physical.

I think im going to need explaining on exactly why Edmonton would trade Stoll for Sammy. Even if Stoll's in the doghouse, we're still talking about a non playoff team trading a 25 yr old who's scored 20 goals for a guy who's alot older and has no upside. At least with the Ryder suggestions, although he clearly has more value than Sammy, Montreal is a playoff team so they'd probably want a roster player in return for him.

Well, Babcock said that Sammy is "elite", so it must be true. Besides, Edmonton would obtain an athlete who's used to winning and playing with great players. Alright, I can't go on like this anymore with a straight face. I'm gonna stop writing now.
