GAA - 10.50

Save % - .588

All in all, the Wings are weaker this year than last. So what makes you feel so strongly about them winning the Cup this year?

it doesn't sound like we really disagree at all as far as what the wings need - another goal-scorer and a physical defenseman ... and i understand what you're looking at with this year's team vs. last year, i think one could argue that the growth of some of the players on offense, particularly cleary and flip, could offset lang's production, but markov's departure is an obvious hole ...

however, while this year's team may not stack up favorably with last year's team, we don't have to play last year's team to win the cup, we have to play the other teams in the league, and i think we stack up pretty well with them ... nothing will be easy, and yes, i still worry about anaheim, i think they will give us the biggest challenge, but i think we have as good a shot as anyone ...

we'll see what happens at the trading deadline ...

Last season Cleary had 40 points. This season Cleary has 40 points. Yes, he is injured, but he was on pace for about 55 points. Not a drastic improvement over last season. Right now Flip has 10 more points than last season. He is on pace to get a total of 20 more points than last. Lang's hole has yet to be filled.

If you look at the biggest competition for Detroit, the Ducks, they have gotten better. Detroit hasn't done anything to get better.

Again, I'm not bashing Dom and Ozzie. I just don't think they are capable of playing at the level necessary to make up for the other holes Detroit has.

I guess its a good thing he just got his 7th loss of the season (in Mid February mind you) ah well, as with the injuries, better he is getting these games out of the way now.

22-7 is sucktastic in anyones book... i guess!

That's not true.

Yes, it is.

Goaltenders are not for nothing called 'the last line of defense'.

If a goaltender has a GAA of 10 over 2 games there went something wrong long before he gave up those goals.

Dom's #1 in GAA for the league. But, according to conventional LGW wisdom, it has nothing to do with him at all. The goalie is only as good as the team in front of him. So, it has nothing to do with Dom's amazing comeback and virtually perfect play the last couple of months. Check, got it.

But, uh oh, this logic goes both ways, then. If Ozzie's stat are bad, or good, then it could only be because of the team. Ozzie himself had nothing to do with any of it. Unless it's good news, and then it's all Ozzie. Right?

The whole season of wonderfulness for Ozzie and such horrible, sub-standard play from Hasek  according to so many here, was all a result of the team in both cases. Not the goalie. Yes, that's it!!! It's so clear to me now!!!!

Apparently both of our goalies suck. <_< It's all the team. They suck too.

:hehe:

No.

If your team captain and your coach admit they left their goalie out to dry on consecutive games, that's says something to me.

Or maybe just me..

It happens all the time. What matters is how the goalie responds when the team disappears.

It's sort of too bad Ozzie isn't in today... it would have given him a chance to redeem himself, and it's not like he's gotten a lot of work lately. I think Babcock is smart enough to know that the team is at fault, along with the goalie. He would have done the same thing - playing Howie today, I mean - had Dom been the victim of circumstances, and Ozzie was not able to play due to an injury, I suspect.

All I am saying is that both goalie's stats this season are in part the result of the team's play... if it's true for Dom, it's true for Ozzie. Right? They play with the same guys in front of them. Whenever I have dared to suggest that the team played badly in a loss where Dom was the goat, I get shot down - it's all Dom's fault and never a turnover or bad defense that causes the goals he lets in. Now that the team played badly in front of Ozzie, and he lost a couple, it's all the team?

See why I get confused? It can't true for one goalie and not the other, all things being equal.

Which they never are.

** I am not really confused, by the way.
