Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 How much revenue could this possibly attract? The only people who are close enough to see whats on the jerseys would be in the first two rows off the ice, and I'm willing to bet they won't be focusing on what Honda's latest toy is. And this would discourage me from buying a jersey, thus decreasing nhl revenue, from me, personally.
Booster313 138 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 If this ever happens it will be the one and only reason I can think of to actually dislike Hasek. What a stupid idea. If they want to generate revenue how about more player endorsments, that actually serves two purposes it creates revenue and it gets the players face out there in commercials. Or what is they just sponsered plays, "You've just seen the Hasek make the powerade glove save, remember when you need extra energy to make the big play only powerade will do." juice71285 2 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 The advertisements wouldnt necessarily be for the people at the game as much for the people who watch the games on TV especially now that games are broadcasted in HD. Hey look at the 2 inch insignia just below the crest but above the large (insert company) symbol of the (insert company). Must buy it now since (insert player) is wearing it, since it must be good. Glad I have HD or else I wouldn't have seen what (insert player) favorite (insert company) is. No thank you.

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 The helmets, I could deal with. The pads, I could deal with. The jerseys? In the name of all that is Hockey, NONONONONONONONO! We already have the Michelin Man. We do NOT need Viagra Man. How would we know if Paul Mitchell is a new goalie or a brand of hair care products? What if Miller advertised Budweiser? Could Hasek advertise his own products? Would he have to pay himself? Would the goalies decide for whom they want to advertise or would they just be stuck with the highest bidder? What if they're already sick of being branded as a douchebag? Would they be forced to add the Summer's Eve logo? Would the announcers have to work it into their commentary? "Don't let those s***s get the better of you: Be like Chris "Immodium AD" Osgood, and stop the runs before they catch you offguard." "Is Luongo the best goalie? ...Depends" There are just so many things wrong with this. Let's not go there at all. This post has been sponsered by Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. It's the cheesiest. Lazerbeam 13 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 "Clubs like the Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators and Atlanta Thrashers are hemorrhaging money – one investment banker who specializes in pro sports says the Coyotes have lost as much as $30 million (U.S.) a year in recent seasons." So the lockout was bulls***! what happened to the salary cap? This whole thing is a joke and if it becomes a reality I will not buy the center Ice package or follow hockey anymore--enough is f***IN ENOUGH!!
Ziggy Stardust 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) Hell no! Take a look a how Norwegian/Swedish/Finnish hockey looks like: Do we really want this? It's hideous! If they start putting ad's on the goalie jersey it's just a question of time before all the players wears jerseys with ad's. That has always been great with North American sports jerseys. If you look a European ones, basket, hockey, football (soccer) they all looks like christmas trees. I'd rather listen to "This powerplay is sponsored by .... " than looking at those hideous jerseys. Hank 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Article Link This will be a very dark day for the league if this ever happens...... I agree. I never want to see this in the NHL. Pretty soon the NHL will look and play exactly like all the European leagues. We already have all the traps and defensive systems they've been playing for decades and now the ice and uniforms will look like an ad company threw-up all over them. What's next? The stupid "Gold Helmet" they have in the SEL? Pretty soon team names will be sold out. It will no longer be the "Detroit Redwings". It'll be "Comerica Bank Presents the Detroit Redwings". I laugh how the PA is basically selling it's soul. They used to cry that the Owners were greedy - and they are. But they're basically the same now. The Pigs are walking, wearing clothes and living in the house. Animal Farm all over.
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) bad bad bad idea ... here's the moscow dynamo jersey from 2004 ... pretty plain, except guess which one is the team's logo? if you said the big winged thing in the middle, you'd be rooting for a russian insurance company ... the team logo is ... so maybe someday our jersey could look like .... :puke: Edited February 18, 2008 by lets go pavel
Hank 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 :puke: Hahaha! 20 years from now and probably. It's just like the premier soccer leagues out there. They have their team crest in the corner of the shirt with the main advertiser as their logo. This will be here before too long. Soon we'll have a group of breathing logos skating to 1-0 games. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Usually, I don't raise a fuss around here when changes are made, but this is ridiculous. If these owners can't make enough money to keep their goalie's from looking like a living billboard, then they shouldn't own a team. This is getting out of hand for some owners. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Say goodbye to hockey if they do this. People already think the NHL is a joke. The jerseys are already cluttered enough. Hank 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Its already in the AHL and has been for several years. I think its only a matter of time before it comes to the NHL Yup. I'm actually surprised it's not here now. I've also heard talk that they might sell ad space on the nets. So you'll see a giant "Tide" log on the netting. Can't wait.
