It's bad enough my life is wasted with ads on tv......leave the ads to the programs & the boards!

Or......is the NHL going to the CHL..........Corporate Hockey League? LIttle Caesars v. Staples!

You know, in a slightly political statement, isn't it funny that anti-Capitalist Europe has the most ads everywhere?

I agree, though. Ads are everywhere, can't we escape them? Personally, if this happens, it'll be the straw that broke the camels back. I really hope a rival league to the NHL emerges soon....just so long as the Wings can be absorbed into it.

Europe is anti-capitalist?

Usually, I don't raise a fuss around here when changes are made, but this is ridiculous. If these owners can't make enough money to keep their goalie's from looking like a living billboard, then they shouldn't own a team.

This is getting out of hand for some owners.

That's the funny-strange part... it's the PA, well a handful of goalies, that are pushing for it.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's the small market teams that put up the most resistance to this because it would also raise player salaries.

Is this the goaltenders way of sucking up to owners, so they won't crack down on pad size or something?

Because if the owners are selling ads on goaltender jerseys, they're going to want the most real estate possible for ad space. ;)

In all seriousness though, this is a horrible, horrible idea. I'm disappointed in all the NHLers who support this. It makes NHL hockey just seem more like a pathetic fringe sport than a legit north american one.

To be fair, in Europe you have only commercial brake between the period, and it's no "This PP is sponsored by..."

or "Let's take a look at the <insert ad> hit of the match" etc.

that is just abso-friggin-lutely unacceptable. I would never EVER watch hockey again if players become a billboard for Burger King. and Dom, Marty and all others guys should burn in hell if that were to happen. couple more bucks so they can diss 99.9% of the hockey fans? sounds like a smart move by a store clerk. why not sell your wife on the street so you can buy bigger house?

What wasn't on discussed whatsoever Monday was the front-page story in Sunday's Toronto Star that suggested NHL players put advertising on their uniforms.

"It's not something that I've ever had any reason to believe that the Players' Association or the players would ever agree to," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told The Canadian Press on Monday. "So it's not something that we've given any thought to."

Well that's good news.....for now.....

"Clubs like the Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators and Atlanta Thrashers are hemorrhaging money – one investment banker who specializes in pro sports says the Coyotes have lost as much as $30 million (U.S.) a year in recent seasons."

Looks like leaving Winnipeg really payed off... <_<

Ive always thought hockey players and the NHL were a different breed than the other major sports, even in this issue of ESPN the mag it talks about hockey players actually trying vs. the NBA ballet. But with ads on jersey's it just shows that the NHL is no different, maybe even worse to stoop down to that level.

Bettman may have actually debunked this today... (crosses fingers)

Per TSN, (last few sentances) reporting on all that was discussed in the GM meetings today...
