Well, everyone except you. Now typically I would return fire but I don't quite see the point of it. Clearly, you're outmatched and you've decided your best course of action is to just come in here guns blazing like that's going to have some affect on me. It's too transparent. I'd be on board for sure, although not my first choice I like the fact Tollefson's not afraid to drop the gloves at all and is a pretty strong guy, which makes up for his somewhat lack of skill. Stick him on the third pair with Cheli. Another guy i like is Shane Obrien, although he seems to lose just about every fight he gets in, but at least he gets in them. As far as Lappy goes, no his overall game isn't about cheapshots and he's no chris simon, I just think he got a bit carried away. Not going to say he flew in with the forearm or anything, just think he knowingly got a little extra in there at the end. What really bothered me more than that though and seemed out of character for him was the flying cross check to Downey's face. You can't really tell from the replay provided in here, but watching the replay during the game, you could see downey waive him in with his hand like a man and that's what it ended up with. Now that it happens to someone like Nik, the tune seems to be changed. Granted, I can't demonstrate that one person changed their mind, it's just an overall sense that I get of the feeling on the subject before and after it happened to a Wing. My take, which has never changed: Good that Downey did what he did, he needs to do that, otherwise, having someone like him is fairly useless. Unfortunately, the instigator rule does deter and limit this reaction quite a bit. Facts are, if you are going to hit a star player (whether it is clean or not....I stress the importance of this as it should make no difference), that player needs to pay the price. This does not mean that the league needs to ban hits on star players, what is means is that a team has an enforcer to protect its star players, so when someone takes a run at a star player, that enforcer is there to send the message for him not to do it again. Couldn't agree more... there needs to be at least one guy there who can just go up to a player after a big hit and say... He isn't worried about the puck, he is going to paste Lids into the boards. Clean or dirty has been discussed very throughouly already. What I would like called, [whether it's a Wing, Flame, Duck whoever]. is this not easing up when you know a player is in an awkward position. All these apologies by the instigator of an injury, afterwards, is pathetic. The players need to have more respect for each other and ease up on their hits when they see someone is in a vulnerable position. If they can't start doing it, then the Refs need to stert calling more "intent to injure" penalties. There I feel much better now.... and oh yes, a big thanks to Lappy, for WAKING US UP. I think Lids lost his footing and got driven backwards and Lappy then lost his footing as well...apparent as they both hit the ice afterwards. And from my own experience, you can, if you want finish somebody high. Most definitely. But, and this is a fact, you can't always control what happens after contact is made. So i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. I guess I'd give him the benefit of the doubt also considering his past. He's a hard-nosed, abrasive, ass but he's not really the cheapshot kind of person (like pronger). However, how on earth that's not a two minute penalty is beyond me. Here's a good quote from Lidstrom" "I have a pretty good mark on my chin where he hit me.
