Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

I think it is safe to say that something is happening. There was stuff said on XM about Anaheim doing something at 11:18PM. That was a little while after someone saw that post on Filppulas facebook. I bet Burke knows something is happening. These are a lot of rumors starting in too short a time frame. Something is up!

EDIT: What if Duck Guy IS Burke??

Mysterious. I checked the Thrashers website. No news but the Thrasher cheerleaders are extremely good looking.

Hudler and Filppula for Hossa? Would that leave a gap? Those guys aren't exactly super heroes in the playoffs though.

If there is a blockbuster trade going down it is possible Detroit could get another veteran from Atlanta such as Recchi, Holik or if Holland wants a depth defenseman K. Klee, Zhitnik (please take him away) or even Exelby. who knows?

OK I found the quote I was looking for: "Jim Matheson reports the asking price for Atlanta's Marian Hossa and Toronto's Mats Sundin will be steep. Of the teams believed interested in Hossa (Montreal, Detroit, San Jose and Ottawa), Matheson suggests the asking price might involve Chris Higgins, Valterri Filppula, Jonathan Cheechoo and Mike Fisher. Thrashers GM Don Waddell also said he'd give an interested team 48 hours to sign Hossa to a contract extension, but Matheson writes it's unlikely Hossa will sign with anyone until July, when he's a UFA"

I am under the impression that some of you would be excited and willing to aquire Hossa, even as a rental, for Filppula.

That is crazy talk.

Hudler? Defently more of a possibility - i'd even have Hudler apart of a package with mid-level prospect(s)/draft pick(s) to get Hossa as a rental, but Filppula is not even a possiblity in my mind.

I think some of you don't realize what type of value he has to the Wings.

This is coming from the same guy who 2 years ago called a bunch of you crazy for thinking that Hudler was more valuable and less tradable than Filppula. Would you agree that i was correct in that assessment?

Filppula is the type of player you want and need on your team in order to have success. He's not going to lead the league in scoring, but at the same time he isn't going to command a ridiculous paycheck. He's going to be the type of player that every team in the NHL would love to have, both during the regular season and playoff time. I know he's been in a bit of a slump of late, but don't let that fool you.

Hossa is likely going to command way too much money for the Wing's to be seriously interested in him long term. And there's no possible way you give up a player like Filppula for a rental of Marian Hossa.

And i'd much rather have $7 mil a year of my cap hit consisting of Filppula + another solid glue player over one Marian Hossa. We already have Datsyuk and Zetterberg, who are both essentially as valuable as Marian Hossa, both offensively and defensively. Yes Hossa would be able to bring some different elements to the table, but you can also find those elements in different players with the money that he'd command.

P.S... Lol at the thought of the Wing's giving up Filppula for something on the Thrashers not named Hossa. I'd be surprised if they gave up Filppula for Hossa straight up, let alone for something invloving the likes Kozlov, Recchi, etc.

Hossa is better and more valuable than Flip could ever hope to be -- especially to the Wings, who, given their track record, could find another player in Flip's mold much more easily than they could find one in Hossa's.

At best, Flip will be a solid second-line playmaker. A poor man's Datsyuk.

At best, Hossa will give us four or five 40-goal seasons and solid two-way play. No one in Detroit's system outside of Hank Zetterberg can offer that.

Flip isn't going anywhere.....& Hossa isn't a rental!

Kenny is looking long term......

Dude- those two comments aren't necessarily in agreement. A non-rental Hossa >> Filppula. I love Filp as much as the next guy, but a signed Hossa is worth anyone on the wings not named Dats, Z or Lidstrom.

Couldn't we just give them Yuri and keep flip. <_<

I'm not gonna lie. Of those four players mentioned, Flip is the least integral to his team. Detroit's already got two all star centers locked up for their top lines, and theyve got no top line wingers on the squad or coming up in the system either. If Kenny thinks he can fit Hossas demands under the cap and re-sign Hank, I see no reason why not to do this. If we re-sign Hossa, it'll be long-term.

I agree. The Wings would be fine for this year without Filpulla.

With Dats and Zetts centering their own lines, and with Hossa and Homer with either of them, we'd have two top scoring lines:

Cleary-Dats-Homer

Sammy-Zetts-Hossa

Kopecky-Franzen-Hudler/Downey

Maltby-Drapes-Drake

Nope. And I'm not saying that because I love Huddles. Realistically, because Juri is 5'9, regardless of his pure offensive talent, he's not as valuable at this stage as Val is. Hudler has a better offensive skill set, no question there- even if you don't watch him play you have to agree he'd have to be drafted higher than Filppula when he's sub 5'10 and Val is 6'1. The problem is that Filppula's still yet to tap all his offensive potential, just as Juri is as-of-yet not fully tapped, but Val is an awesome penelty killer, consistantly hard worker, and all around responsible player that cup-winning teams desperately need. Solid, hardworking forwards with 20 goal potential aren't a dime a dozen, but in the salary cap world they're coveted assets.

I'm happy that Filppula's turned out to be such a solid NHL player -I really am, but when it comes down to trading him for Hossa I'd pack his bags.

Hossa's goals scored in reverse chronological order:

43, 39, 36, 45, 31, 32, 29, 15 (rookie year). Those came with these point totals:

100, 92, 82, 80, 66, 75, 30 (rookie year).

Honestly- this guy is fricking gold.

Before anyone else says it- yes he'd have to be signed.

Hey all, for some reason I feel kind of bad for posting what was said, early on but I was shoked to find it. Now that he has deleted his page. But as a player or any kind of celebrity, you dont' want to post things early because people will find it. And information will blow up ex: hockey rumors. That goes as well for management. Hopefully he will return to Facebook.

Apparently it made its way to the mlive.com forums, and to wing blogs also. Either someone leaked some major info, or many people have fallen victim to one hell of a prank.

brother let me know if you need help packing them. :D

I already bought him a set. Let me know where I can drop them off.

P.S. If Holland can fit Hossa under the Cap I think he would love to resign, long-term with the Wings.

I stopped checking last night when this was still on page 12. Reading through the rest this morning has been a treat  Although I was kind of hoping when I got to the end I would find the answer to the riddle... I like Flip a lot and I think he could develop quite nicely, but I guess In Kenny We Trust, right?
