Why would Detroit give him $8 mil a year when they have two forwards that are as good if not better than Hossa and neither will make $8mil a year? Datsyuk is in the 6.7 range and Zetterberg will be nearly identical.

Hossa is a very good player, but he's not worth $8 mil a year, and if he wanted to remain a Wing, he'd have to realize he's not touching anywhere near $8 mil a year.

I think Kenny Holland is too smart to give up too much for Hossa. Filppula should not be part of a package for Hossa. I'd rather give up Hudler, Meech/Quincey, and a draft pick over Filppula straight up. If they do give up Flip then they'll have to believe they can sign Hossa after this season to a reasonable deal.

But with guys like Z, Cleary, and Flip all due for a raise, i just can't see Detroit trading for Hossa. I don't think he fits in long term and i don't see them willing to give up a lot to get him as a rental. We'll see though.

I'm actually expecting more of a Fedorov/Prospal plus Stuart deal.

You might have to wait a while. If a deal has been reached in principle, the Thrashers would likely give the Wings 24-48 hours to negotiate a new contract with Hossa and then do a sign and trade. So IF they have reached a tentative deal it is possible that Filppula knows about it but it will not be announced for another day or so. Then again this could all be a giant hoax and we are just yapping about nothing.

But from the perspective of DW this makes great sense. Hossa probably would agree to an extension with just a few teams (Detroit being at the top or near the top of his list). So the Thrashers can get much more in return if they do a sign and trade than just deal Hossa as a rental player. So it is in DW's interest to let the Wings (or another team) talk contract for 48 hours to the Thrashers can get more back for their star player.

This is all true. Even if it is ACTUALLY Filpulla's Facebook page, and it is his status is ACTUALLY true, there would be the potential scenario that negotiation talks betwen Hoss and Kenny fall through, and nothing happens anyways. It'll be an interesting next 7 days, no doubt about it.

if the trade happens.. i dunno what to say about it. Obviously Hossa is an explosive player who doesn't have to think too much (when we think lil too much that's when we get into trouble IMO) and we missed those kind of player ever since Fedorov done that once in a while. (and in playoffs)

However losing Filp over Hossa... damn... I dunno. I really wanted Filp to blossom into solid player in Wings uniform.

Hossa 'can' get 8 mil in open market, but I bet you he will not get that money from us. I mean he's got less point than Datsyuk, Zetterberg AND Lidstrom this season and he's gonna get 8 mil? Holland won't give into that kind of deal when we are trying to set standard about 'our price'.

Hossa has had back to back 90 point seasons. Ya gotta give something to get something. We weren't getting him for just Flip, especially in light of the comments that ATL still wants to win now.

The thing I'd miss most is referring to Hudler as Rex.

Both guys have potential, but Hossa is gross and he's still pretty young.

Wouldn't shock me a bit if the trade were to be something like Rex, Flip, midlevel prospect, pick if he resigns with us. And it would be worth it. Hossa is the kind of guy that will make the rest of the league go "Oh ****" if we get him. Same as it was when we got Dom back in 2002.

I really like Flip, but if we can get Hossa, you gotta make that deal.
