I heard the Boston Globe is pretty reliable compared to the Toronto and Ottawa Sun

I'm not joking when I say this, the National Enquirer is more reliable than the what's printed in the Toronto or Ottawa Sun. Especially the sports stories. Al Strachan will make up stuff out of the blue only to help sell papers.

I'm thinking Holland is referring to guys who are literally "depth players." And he's justified in saying that; you never want to offer up a lot for depth players.

A guy like Hossa would obviously make our offense much deeper, but he's not a depth guy in a strict sense.

Man, there isn't going to be much that will happen. The big players are going to go to more desperate teams. I was thinking a big trade would be announced today but we aren't going to see anything until the deadline.

All this quote means is that we aren't going to be trading a Jakub Kindl for a Brad Stuart. And who would? Key here is that hes talking about depth. Holland isnt one to show his cards if hes going for one of the bigger fish in the sea. Hollands not an idiot. He knows itll cost somethin' special to land Hossa..and so far he hasnt come out and negated that possibility. And even then Im not sure what Id believe.

People need to realize that GMs use the media as a part of their game. Do you think Holland is answering questions and doing interviews just so the fans can stick their nose in his business? Hell no. He couldnt care less about that. If a GM makes a statement to the press like this, its for other GMs to hear. Not us.

Well Watters just mentioned that it's for filppula when they were talking about Sundin being traded to certain teams and then he said "well I'm hearing that Detroit's already got Hossa for Filppula, they're very close to finalizing it" - and then there wasn't really any more discussion on that.

same I am just stating that flip for hossa straight up is about as big a steal you can get. Unless we're throwing draft pics, but atlanta stated they didn't want that. I am thinking if they think that highly of Flip, throw in Kopay. Two good up and coming guys for hossa, which is what atlanta is looking for.

If its true, its not just for Filppula. How many times have you read a headline that says something like "Detroit trades X player for X player" and then in the article it states how the other team also got picks/prospects, etc? When the media reports a trade, often all they know are the main components, so this might be the case.

ok......Kenny said in a interview(Red Wings live) last week that what the Wings are after is someone long term & can grow into our system.....without spending a fortune......

that being said........We can't afford a player short term & expensive.........The Wings like to promote from within, a standard in MIchigan workforce......They have the talent in the making & is thinking long term......WE ARE NOT the HOCKEYTOWN we used to be! Meaning the place isn't sold out like it used to & our economy isn't getting any better! I know our time is now, but..... at what expense? So maxxing out the cap & possibly not getting the return is a crap shoot.....look at the economics of this! I say Feds is our answer, if healthy, he's a 2 way player, he knows the system, & he has the experience. With D-Mac possibly returning, it will fill the house & I know with all to prove , getting a second chance, is just a great story in the making!....still leaves room for another......plus it lets the young ones know they have to step it up if they want to be here! Who doesn't want to win?

i honestly doubt this one. we aren't even in the same stratosphere of what Ottawa and San Jose could offer. i'd certainly welcome it all if it did happen though!
