Matt Ellis on Waivers

No mainstream source has this listed under the transactions.

It doesn't make any sense as three spots opened up, and they called up two.

Waiving Ellis opens two holes in the roster then. McCarty will only take up one...

My sources say McCarty has a contract offer on the table right now, so that is another contradiction with the report.

I am waiting for official transactions report, just because it is Eklund.

If he was waived, then a trade is going down. Otherwise if we lose him just to lose him, then no one wants him. I also do not believe this.

Who are these sources you always talk about? Also, Ellis has no trade value AT ALL. you know on NHL 08 for x360. On that trade simulator he dosent even move it at all. =D

I can't say. They always tell me the truth so I trust them. It is how I knew alot of trades in the past. I never would get anyone in trouble, but I will say one of them is in Florida and one of them is in Detroit.

Also I will never go by a video game system.

Ellis can't be traded for anyone, but when you throw him at the end of a deal, it works. A team can take a look at him for the rest of the year in practice and see if they want to resign him. It really is no risk, and no one is going to suggest it will make or break a trade. I just always throw a guy like him in at the end.

We needed the space, but I expected him to stay while someone else went. I thought it could have been possible for him to be a fourth liner post deadline.

This in no way affects the trade propsals for Prospal or Stuart or Sundin.

I do think it shows that less trades will happen then maybe some of us want.

We can't win the Cup without Ellis. Our season is over, just hand the Cup to the Ducks.

In all seriousness, though, Ellis played hard, but didn't have much of an upside. Hopefully he'll be signed by Nashville, where he and Langfeld can bring back 2/3 of their great line that just skated in circles and didn't hit anybody.

Assuming it to be true, this is likely the same as the Downey waiver process earlier in the season. Waived so that we have the option of clearing a spot instantly. Kronwall, Cleary, Hasek, and Rafalski are on IR-Quincey, Ericsson, Hartigan, and Howard are up to replace them. Ellis is waived so that the Wings can quickly clear a spot after all of those guys return if need be. Which suggests to me that they are close to making a deal that would bring back more roster players than would be going out.

I haven't seen any real proof. Nothing other than that link someone put up earlier. It's not any of the sites like redwings.com, nhl.com, espn.com. Nothing. I would think it would be there right under Lidstroms injury report. I guess I am just tired of the BS. I need real proof!

<<< Holds breath and thinks the word "Hossa" over and over again.

When you think about it, the Wings have more forwards dressed than usual.

Dats, Z, Homer, Stein, Flip, Huds, Draper, Malts, Drake, Kopper, Downey, Hartigan, Sammy. Thats 13. Thats one more than 12. And if 2 players were to disappear from the lineup and 1 were to take their place from another team, that would give us 12 again.

Hmmm......

per the front of letsgowings.com

Red Wings GM Ken Holland confirmed to Bruce MacLeod this afternoon that the club has placed forward Matt Ellis on waivers. Other NHL clubs have until noon on Thursday to place a claim on him. If no team places a claim on him the Red Wings have the option to send him down to Grand Rapids.

Why would we call up Hartigan and waive Ellis though? It seems to me that Ellis brings more to the table than Hartigan.

Hartigan's deal is two-way, so he can be sent down later without clearing waivers if the team makes a deal. No delay, whereas otherwise there is a wait until roster space can be cleared.

Im glad they seemed to have to finally wised up and stopped waiving Downey. There is absolutely no question that he brings much more to the table than Ellis for this team. Wont be surprised at all if he goes unclaimed.

Ah yes, I forgot that Ellis' deal was not a two way. I also think it's great to see Downey not get waived. Maybe they have finally realized what a person like Downey can actually bring to this team over an average player like Ellis.

Yeah to me, i view it is a nice step in the right direction. Im very happy with the way Downey got his shining moment beating up Lappy, it seems management has finally come to grips again with the fact that having a fighter is important.

I really like Ellis though. Blue collar, but he seems to get himself around the puck a lot, and make stuff happen. I was hoping to see more of him, not less. I don't think he got a fair shake (he got the Huddles treatment)

Wasnt enough room for him. It's too bad he wasnt younger, I'd like to keep him in the system.

he will be. nobody's going to claim him.

No he didn't. Hudler is a skilled player who belongs in thel ineup every day but because of his size (and nothing regarding how he plays) he has been given less ice time than his play has proven worthy of.

Ellis is not one of Detroit's top twelve forwards, and therefore belongs in the press box or Grand Rapids.

this is just one of those moves you have to make... and although Ellis being claimed is unlikely, it's not impossible - I just hope he clears, so we can hold on to him... he works his ass off and has tons of heart. Even if it's only as a limited role, those are the kind of guys you want to keep around...
