Ryan Miller a Wing in '09?

Rate this topic

Word on the street in Buffalo (a.k.a. a disgruntled Swords fan) is that Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller is fed up with the cheap way the franchise is being run in Buffalo. Letting Briere and Drury get away last year, when they could have been signed long term early in the '06-'07 season. Not to mention losing Campbell this year. The Sabres will attempt to lock up Miller this summer. If he is not signed long term by the start of the season, all directions point to Miller looking to come home to the State of Michigan for '09-'10. Miller and Howard anyone??? :yowza:

The question is what if Osgood has two more years like this year, where he is among the GAA leaders all year? What if Osgood plays well, but Howard looks to be not panning out? Would the Wings pick up Miller and dish off Howard, tandeming Ozzie and Miller?

Too many questions at this point to know whether Miller is even a potential option.

Can`t go wrong with a SPARTAN! It would be awesome to see Ryan come home and play for the Wings. I don`t see how he can be happy staying in Buffalo when it seems all they wanna do is dump players instead of building a solid team.

Man, I'd love for Miller to be a Wing...but would Buffalo give up their only remaining franchise player?

they gave up three other franchise players already in Briere, Drury, and Campbell, as well as trading Hasek in '01. Seems to me that they aren't concerned with building a loyal fanbase if they keep losing all their team building players

Won't surprise me if Miller comes to Detroit. He won't be the first goalie to figure out that Buffalo isn't going to put a winning team in front of him.

Yeah, but we don't sign any free agent goalies under 35. It's against our policy. :D

Not going to get my hopes up, but that would be amazing if we signed Miller as a Wing. Just sucks about Ozzie as I do love him, and I really do love Howard as well and wouldn't want anyone to be shafted.

Then again, it'd be really nice to actually have a goalie that can stick with us for a while. And that man seems to be Ozzie, so we'll see I suppose. I think it may just be wishful thinking though LGWer's, hah.

Sounds AWESOME! Miller with Howard as the backup would be amazing. We could certainly get something half decent for Osgood. Heck, package him off to Buffalo since they'll be needing a goalie, lol.

I would love Howard to be the full-time backstop for this team but it's hard to argue against Miller. Miller / Howard would be a mean, mean 1-2 punch

I would love to see him in a winged wheel. I loved watching him play at MSU and he is always coming back to campus to train and to do charty work.

OF COURSE!!! He has to play with the Wings. He is Zetterberg's long lost taller brother. Just look at them both, the likeness is uncanny!

Miller is greatly over-rated. However, i'd rather see him between the pipes then osgood or howard in a couple years...Well, at least over Osgood. If it was up to me he'd be gone after this year along with mr. groin.

I really feel sorry for Buffalo. They've lost Breire, Drury, and Campbell, and now talk of this?

i agree, i like buffalo, and like their new uniforms, and alot of the players they've had their over the last 5 years. they were an exciting dark horse almost every playoff year...but this new stupid CBA nhl hasnt helped them much either i fear.

The big question is, would we have the cap space for him.

He would command at least 4-5 million a season and a long term deal. It will probably be about 5 mil a season. That being said, we also have to sign Cleary. Also, do we dump Howard at this stage? I think he is doing well for the Griffins right now. His save percentage is very good, and if his defense was stronger and the team was better, he would be puting up great stats this year. Personally, I like Howard and I think he will be a good NHL goalie. I just don't think we can turn Miller down if he came to us wanting to play in Detroit. Especially if he took a hometown discount like Rafalski and other Wings did.

Though you have to say that Buffalo did come close to winning the Cup against Dallas. However, in the past few years here, they DO have let significant talent just leave from their team. Sucks to cheer for the Sabres when the owners are aparently only interested in increasing the bottom line.
