Thunderpriest 8 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 I was perusing the GDT for laast night's game and mention was made of Dom once again coming out of his net to stop a breakaway. Let's see if we can name his move, uh, 'cause I'm bored at work. A few suggestions: Instead of poke check , how about the "Czech Poke"? The "Flip Czech" The "Flying Domino!" The "At least he's not trying to stick-handle behind the net" maneuver. Discuss.

Firehawk 305 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 (edited) Sweep the leg, Dommy! OMFG is that Mr. Belding? If so, he really let himself go! EDIT: I just realized that when Saved by the Bell was 'new', most of the kids on this board were probably learning how to add LOL. shadow47 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 Agree that this is anything but a "new" signature move. First time I saw it was '92 Cup Finals game 4 against Kevin Stevens. I didn't watch as many games then as now but there was '94 one of the middle games against NJ in the playoffs (was a goal), '95 vs Det on Draper I think, Zhitnik just saved the puck on that one, '96 a game on ESPN against Robitaille/Pens, '97 plenty of times, '98 many times including one late in the season where he cracked his ribs against MTL, '99 plenty, '00 was hurt, '01 didn't see much of the season, and so on. This move has been consistent for a long, long time is the point. The Czech Shutter

Gizmo 21 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 My 8-year-old goalie simply uses Hasek's name as a verb to describe the move. He'll say to me after a shoot-out drill during his Mite practice "Dad, did you see me Hasek Andrew???"

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 (edited) I like the previous poster's kids' idea, let's just call it the Hasek. "Oh my God! He just Hasek'd him!" That has longevity too. Long after Hasek is gone, it will truly become a verb in itself. When a goalie in 2020 does it, the announcers will go: "What an amazing hasek!" Jwo 7 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 The Balls to the Wall move. Id like that. The Joe music guy can play the "Balls to the Wall" song after he does it in the next break.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 3, 2008 This is not a 'new' move by Dom. You will notice that fans in Buffalo yesterday did not expect a penalty when he did it; this is because they watched him do it regularly for nearly a decade when he played for the Sabres. cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 Okay well I play soccer so I am accustomed to goalies come out at you... It;s funny because I used to complain that hockey goalies never did it and I alwaaays thought that if goalies came out at you in hockey it would take away scoring chances... Here we are, Hasek has done it several times and hasn't been scored on. Perfect move. And so it should be called 'the Hasek.' What a smart little kid haha. Right you are. I was surprised when people made a big deal about it when he (still) does it in Detroit, until I realized they hadn't seen it before. You'd think players would half-expect it, but they always seem shocked, as well. "Hasek-ian" saves are part of most hockey broadcasters' nomenclature. But, no one else (at the moment) uses Dom's patented tackle-check-slide move, so I say name it "The Hasek." I also love the use of "Hasek" as a verb.
