Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) THIS MAKES MY DAY. Danny! Congratulations! Edit: Please, people---compliment Holland when he does something well, rather than only bashing him when he does something you feel is wrong. RusDRW 155 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 That's why Kenny is best GM in the league. Practically he save 1M on this contract.

96warrior 11 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 From TSN: Financial details were not disclosed, but TSN can confirm that Cleary will earn $14 million over the five-year span. Cleary's contract has a no-trade clause in the first four years, however the fourth year has a modified no trade.

WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 FA - Datsyuk - Holmstrom FA - Zetterberg - Cleary Maltby - Draper - FA Kopecky - Franzen - Samuelsson 1st Line Free Agent - Filppula 2nd Line Free Agent - UFA who is a sniper/pure goal-scorer 3rd Line Free Agent - McCarty if he proves to be in shape Reserves - Hudler, Downey I see no way that Hudler can make it on this team. We best trade him for something in the offseason or by next trade deadline because I can guarantee he is not going to sign with us if he isn't assured top-six minutes. Same goes for Samuelsson. Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Though 5 years is a long time under the CBA, I think Cleary is one of those guys that it's worth it. Great signing. This shows that Kenny is still a shrewd GM, despite the lack of activity on the Wings front at the deadline.
Turkey 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 This is the best news I've heard all day. Now if we can just get the Joe to play Oh Danny Boy when he scores.
savaking72 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Great news for you Dan, and even better news for us! I love the idea of having you on the Wings for another 5 seasons! You are more than deserving of this 14mill contract...you play your ass off.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of both of them. Sam I can't stand, but he does have his moments. Though, his good moments are out weighed by his bad...maybe 20-1. Hudler would be really awesome if he was a few inches higher, and weighed 50 more pounds. Everyone in the league knows how to play against him-they push him off of the puck. WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) 2nd Line Free Agent - Brian Rolston I like you're thinking. But if we get him, I say you put him on Datsyuk's wing and move Filppula down to Zetterberg's wing. Come home (well, at least close to it) Brian! Rolston - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Filppula* - Zetterberg - Franzen Maltby - Draper - Cleary McCarty* - Kopecky - Downey* (Love this line if Mac pans out) (Hudler/Hartigan*/Samuelsson) Guaranteed 30-goal season for Brian. *Must be re-signed during offseason Edited March 12, 2008 by WhiteLightning91
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I was so happy when they announced this during the game. I was starting to get scared for awhile that he was going to leave, but it's great to have him back at a bargain of a price.

If hes on Datsyuks wing, then Id say Guaranteed 35 goal season with 40 goals in sight. Brian Rolster has one of the best slappers in the league. He knows where to put the puck right up there with the best of them, and hasnt had much of a center to work with at it either. With Datsyuk - or Hank - we could see some fireworks, although Id prefer to see him with Datsyuk too as the playmaking/sniper combo would suit both Rolston and Datsyuk better. You're on crack if you think that Franzen will be a 4th-line player next season. The same probably goes for Kopecky, who is improving daily.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) This makes SouthernWingsFan a happy camper and increases the chances of me perhaps purchasing a Cleary jersey sometime in the not-so-distant future. Wish it could have been for about just $2M - $2.25M million but what can ya do, Cleary deserved a significant raise. I'm not sure if the $2M number is unrealistic or not with the current Wings salary structure and what other GMs might have asked. LidsFan 68 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I am so excited that Dan Cleary is going to be a Red Wing for a long time. He is such a hard worker, I just love him. I can't wait until he is back in the line-up.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I didn't think Cleary would sign elsewhere. I think he's a product of his team and organization. Anyway, I'm happy we'll have him around for 5 years.
