Can you get fined for a dive if they called a penalty?

Just curious. Tonight in the Avs-Vancouver game, a Vancouver player reached out with his stick one handed and touched Forsberg above the knee. Floppa literally jumped and slid on the ice. Naturally, the ref called a penalty.

Which made me wonder, can the league review something like that and send Floppa one of those warning letter or potential fine if he's been warned before, even though a penalty was called?

It was about as clear as a dive could possibly be.

Both Forsberg and the ref who called the penalty should be ashamed of themselves.

Seriously. I take back anything good I ever said about Floppa. I don't care how good he is in the playoffs, the douchebag is an embarrassment to real hockey players when he does crap like that.

The Avs scored on the ensuing power play too.

It's good to see that the divealanche are back up to their old tricks. Maybe Floppa can teach all the youngsters on that team how to dive like little *******, so they can be just like him. That's called leadership by example.

The referee should be fired, because of Floppa's reputation. There's no point in fining him, though, since the gimp will probably reinjure himself soon enough.

We can only hope.

Yes they can. I remember Mic and Ken talking about it. I'm not sure on the particulars, but I know there is a process in place. Something like a warning letter for a diving penalty, then a fine for each offense after that. And I seem to remember them talking about the NHL reviewing plays. Again, I'm not too sure on the specifics, they may have just been talking about what they thought the NHL should do as far as the reviewing goes.

Video?

Haven't you ever seen him dive before. Just picture a grown man flying through the air as if he was shot out of a cannon. Then he gets up immediately to contribute on the PP.

I hope we have alert officiating when we play them in the playoffs. I don't want that jackass Forsberg to win a game by creating a cheap powerplay like he did tonight.

Actually unless you're an Avs fan, his nickname is Floppa.

Not an Avs fan, but I do like Forsberg, and would rather refer to him as Foppa.

Yeah, I'm sorry... I do... I just love his style.

you mean the nice layout position as he dives? I must admit, he's very graceful when he jumps off his feet, stretches fully out, and flops to the ice like he's been shot.

Great player, strong skater, 6' 200+ lbs. Which makes his diving all the more disgraceful.

He will always be Floppa to me.

I would love for someone to post his dive tonight on Youtube. It seriously was one of his best.

Floppa's diving again? Wow, this really takes me back. :D

Somebody needs to update Divealanche.com. That site was awesome, and it's a shame it's been dormant for so long. If the Wings - Avalanche rivalry picks up again, it would be all the more reason to do so.

I know he has too. But could the league do it for a play where a penalty was called?

To answer the original question, I imagine they'd only do it if a diving penalty was called. They'll issue a fine or suspension on a play where no penalty was called, but that's probably reserved for instances where players get hurt.

Anyway, his diving may be graceful but he doesn't have much imagination. I have yet to see him pull off a one-and-a-half in the pike position. His degree of difficulty is woefully lacking. Until he starts attempting some of the harder dives he'll be nothing but a hack.

Any idea who the ref was that made the call?

EDIT: Nevermind, just looked on NHL.com and I'm not surprised at all. It was either Tim Peel or, one of our favorites, Dan O'Halloran. I'm betting it's the latter.

And speaking of dives, I did a search on Youtube for "Forsberg" and "dive" and found a most hilarious dive by Crosby.

Fast-forward to about the 1:45 mark in the video and you'll see what I mean.
