Use him. He sure didn't seem intimidated or out of place yesterday. The kid has a history of playing big in big games so I don't think the "pressure" will get to him. He laid out a couple real good hits yesterday and almost scored a couple of times too. Give him Hudler's spot for chrissakes! He's regressing at a pace which has thus far exceeded the expectations I had for him. And while we're at it... would someone tell Filppula to SHOOT THE PUCK! I dunno if he's waiting to see the "whites of the goalies eyes" or what but he's gotta stop passing up prime scoring chances in favor of that "one too many pass" play that he's become accustomed too.

Let's calm down some people.

Did I like how he played last night? Without question. Is this a good signing? Hopefully so, and the first game was a good start.

But it's only been 1 GAME so far.

I will not be surprised if Abdelkader plays in the minors more often than not next season, b/c with everybody healthy he's down in the depth chart. And not a lot of people are healthy right now.

I'd be pretty suprised if he didn't crack the line up, I don't see Drake coming back and Abdelkader just seems like a perfect replacement

remind me of a young Shanahan.... glad we've signed him. There are numurous players *cough Hudler* who bring far less than he has shown he can bring in just one game.

I can sum up Hudler's play with one quote from Ken Daniels during last nights game:

"...and here's Jiri Hudler with the puck, who's looking for his 1st goal in 12 games..."

He needs to be benched. Absolutley pathetic.

How dare you? He has great hands and is good at moving the puck. For people here, that's enough to suggest that he should be a regular on the 2nd line at all times.

As I asked earlier on another thread, I don't undestand why so many people here idolize him? It's baffling to me.

because he's little enough that you can put him up on a pedestal and he doesn't look out of place?

seriously, a realization i came to the other day ... i usually miss where they run the lines across the screen at the beginning of the game, so i have to watch to see who's playing and with who, and i swear every time i count 11 forwards and can't figure out who's missing, and it ends up being huddles ... he's almost always the last guy whom i realize is playing ...

anyway, good to see we've got a bit more depth at forward, i was pretty impressed with abdelkader's game too, hopefully he can keep it up ...

20 actually. Or maybe it was even more. Regardless, Hudler only has 1 goal in 34 games, dating back to the middle of January... but if you ask fellow members of this forum, they'd still say he's productive.

I hope so badly Hudler is gone after this season. At this point, I'd take a Zellers catalog, and a half eaten tuna sandwhich just to get him off this team, and as far away as possible. Seriously. :D

Just saw that the link was posted, I was about to do it myself. I was pretty impressed with the way he played. I liked that he skated hard and threw his body around. He wasn't afraid to get into the mix which is good and impressive for a kid coming out of college. Sucks that Kopey is out now though because he just started to turn a corner in his game. If he takes Kopey's spot I won't mind one bit but I'd rather see them drop Hartigan because he has taken too many lazy penalties.

Agreed, but this is a message board.

The best message board opinions are the most extreme....

HE OBVIOUSLY IS THE BEST PLAYER TO EVER PLAY OMG!!!!

Serriously though, I think he has alot going for him but asking him to adjust to the NHL in the Stanley Cup playoffs, in Detroit no less, is asking for alot.

Quincey did a pretty good job of it last year, but wasn't enough to replace Schneider. Hopefull the fact that he might only have to replace Kopecky or just be another body will help him surpass Quincey's outting last year.

With his energy level, if he ends up with a regular spot on the roster, it will be interesting to see how he physically endures the grueling game schedule. Potentially, the playoffs could be 28 games total (if every series goes to seven). That's more than 2/3 of a CCHA season. I realize that his minutes per game will be lower with the Wings, but the preparation and recovery that comes with the playoff schedule should be interesting to watch how he handles it.

No predictions but rooting for him big time!

Man, Abdelkader sucks...we should have drafted Latendresse! He's an elite PF!

Hmm..wait a minute...Latendresse only has 16 goals this season...and he just snapped a 16-game goalless streak. And he's not playing fourth line like Hudler...and everyone here is ready to hand Hudler's minutes to Abdelkader. So by extension...Abdelkader>Latendresse.

I was just thinking about the whole "OMG What was Kenny thinking! We should have drafted Latndresse! He is much better that Abdelkader.' stuff from a while ago. Guess that chaged.

Way to go Abs.

Im not really getting the logic behind saying that opinion has now changed. How does J.A being on the team now make him better than Latendresse, who's already proven himself in the NHL? Im in favor of giving him a shot, but i just dont see how you came to this conclusion.

I may be in the minority, but I never liked Latendresse all that much. I think he's overrated. He is somewhat proven at the NHL level, but I still don't think he's that great. I've always liked Abdelkader better.

If there was anyone I'd have taken instead, it'd be Paul Stastny (his play in the NHL thus far speaks for itself), but other than that, Abdelkader was definitly the better choice in that round. He's got good size, speed, can score, and most importantly, is physical.

You would definitely be in the minority on that opinion...since most threads on the topic were me defending the decision to take a versatile all-around player from Michigan with a higher draft ranking over the 'sexy' pick of Latendresse who many posters here wanted to draft with the 19th pick that year.
