Report: Brunnstrom to sign with Canucks

Whatever.

I was never that big on him anyways. North American hockey is a much different breed, and it would be a horrible situation to sign this guy to a big contract, only to see him suck.

I'd rather sign an established NHL player anyways that has already proven his worth; I.E. Brian Rolston.

Not a surprise.

Kids are always selfish, he wants ice time instead of a challange. Would rather be a star rather then a supporting cast member.

If he does in fact sign he will prob be very good with the Sedins and the team will still only have one scoring line.

so?

he signs his first NHL contract for low money because as a rookie he can't get more.

so the choice for him here is to go where he has a chance to play. thus he goes to

a team with crappy offense and gets an excellent opportunity to showcase his

skills and raise eyebrows of other GMs. after 2 years of rookie contract he signs

with a quality team for some bold money.

see? it's simple :)

honestly... if he wants playing minutes Canucks are the team to go. if he wants

money he has to showcase himself on American rink. crappy teams are best

for this and Canucks qualify in this category

I don't blame him. this isn't a bad way to start NHL career

I'm not quite sure why people are so obssessed with the guy in the first place. We've already got close to 6 20 goal scorers on this team, and god forbid if we need more secondary scoring, thats what free agency is for.

Vancouver is a great place for this kid to go. Ohlund will be there, Nazzy might be, and the Sedins will be enough for him to feel comfortable with his teammates. Not to mention, hes gonna be getting first line minutes. He MIGHT have had a spot on the 2nd line with Detroit, but honestly, do we really need yet another skilled European forward?

Didn't this site feature BRUNNSTROM TO DETROIT on it's home page???

Who ever runs this site might wanna get their facts a little more straight before they front page bogus material.

Now all of our hopes get crashed. When our hopes shouldn't have been risen in the first place.

If he chooses to go to Vancouver to get individual playing time instead of Detroit to win with a team, we probably wouldn't want him anyway.

Sounds like a me-first prima dona. He and Luongo can brush each other's hair.

Its hilarious that when it seemed Brunnstrom was gonna sign with the Wings he was considered a stud player, but now that it looks like he'll sign with the Canucks he's considered a prima donna with a bad attitude who would be a bust anyways.

This kind of sucks. Hopefully we can sign Campbell or someone over the summer.

I'd rather sign Stuart for cheaper trade off Hudler and sign Feds or Prospal for cheap if this guy makes the biggest mistake of his life and goes to vancouver. I'm more worried about keeping Z and signing a proven NHL player than someone who may become a fourth liner. But honestly I'd be happy if he came here *cuz Grigorenko's gonna need a linemate next year.*

Perhaps you should freshen up your reading skills. The original report surfaced with the Detroit Free Press that stated the Wings were very confident that Brunnstrom had (though unofficial channels) decided on Detroit. Nothing official and things can -- and do -- change. Holland clarified the report a day or two later -- this was also mentioned on this site in a seperate article, perhaps you'd like to check on that -- in saying that Detroit was still very interested in him but hadn't reached an agreement because the SEL was still in-season.

----

Anyway... This seems more like a way to trump up better bonus clauses than anything else. It's a two-team race at this point and I'll believe he's a Canuck only when he signs in Vancouver.

Official now Detroit is definitely not getting Brunnstrom. Holland confirmed.

Red Wings Corner

Ken Holland confirmed this morning that the Red Wings are out of the running for Swedish free agent Fabian Brunnstrom. Holland said that the team's chief European scout, Hakan Andersson, told him that Brunnstrom's side said that they've pared Detroit from their list of potential NHL teams. A TSN report said that Brunnstrom is close to signing with the Vancouver Canucks.

Or how about Ville Leino?

This years MVP in the Finnish league.

Dominating player: strong and skillful.

He said last week that he'll soon start negotiating with NHL teams.

...sign a Finn? Are you crazy?!?!?

Hehe, just a joke of course. I still find it hard to believe that, with all the Europeans that have played for this team in the past 20 or so years, there is only one Finnish player in that group: Filppula. Do the Wings even have a Finland scout?

 I can always dream.

I'd guess that our Swedish ones try to scout the Finns too.

Maybe our scouts don't like the Finnish style of hockey? : Mainly dump and chase, battle & hit in the U20/U18-level.

I mean if puck possession is the key...?

I know this is off topic but I love that quote by dano in your sig! Reminds me of the Avs vs. Wings game when we were up 4-0 I was saying to myself "This is great and all, but a few more goals will make more more comfortable" then at 7-0 I told myself "One or two more and i'll be content" haha and btw I think we need more Finnish players on this team so instead of being Swedish we can Scandinavian lol

It would be nice if you didnt paint everyone on this board with such a wide brushstroke. I think the majority of the people on here thought Brunnstrom was a good idea because he wouldnt cost us anything as hes a FA, and hes also a Swede. Naturally, a good, young, Swede who you dont have to trade for or pay big money for is going to incite a little excitement, particularly if you're a Red Wing fan given their positive experiences with Swedes over the years.

Uh oh, looks like a classic "Rudy" situation. Gets guaranteed playing time from the GM, then the GM is fired. Where does that leave the promise???

Jump on it Holland, say he will get 4th line minutes all season and give him a shot.

Seems to me he is going to get the same deal that Grigorenko got this year; a chance to prove he is an NHL-ready player for a month and then management will re-evaluate their perception of Brunnstrom's progress. I believe this is the correct decision. We may not get him, but it could prevent some potential locker-room drama...
