Pierre Maguire is a loathsome human being

Haha, good rant. He gets on my nerves sometimes too. He ALWAYS bandwagons during the game - If a team is down, all he focuses on is how bad they are doing and what they are doing so terribly wrong, and the opposite for the winning team. He always picks sides. Saying that, most of the things he says are good observations, I just don't want to hear them. I always thought he had pretty good hockey sense though.

But you are right, he gets on the nerves pretty quick.

nice rant, ill give you that.

but

BITCHING ABOUT PIERRE MCGUIRE IS OLD AND TIRED!!!

we know. you dont like him, and you are not the only one. Alot of people don't like Pierre. If you search Pierre McGuire on Facebook, you will get about 5-6 PAGES of groups started about him, and 90% of them are hate groups. The fact is, that most broadcasters suck, theres nothing we can do about it. Go ask baseball fans how they feel about Joe Buck, Tim McCarver or Joe Morgan.

name a broadcaster that doesnt suck these days...its a hard thing to do.

Again, McGuire is a feminine hygine product. Seriously, how is he better than Barry Melrose? I realize Melrose is about as popular as Micheal Jackson on these forums, but I'm trying to figure out how he could be worse the Pierre? Seriously, Pang would be much better. He is also short and annoying, but not nearly as grating and with a higher IQ, both hockey and otherwise.

When he isnt talking about the Wings, I enjoy him. But when he does, he just makes himself look like a tool. From his standpoint, the Wings shouldnt be in the playoffs, they get all there points against the Central, Dan Ellis is ten times the goalie Dominik Hasek is, Nashville should be handed games because they arent getting there breaks and it's just not fair. It's just talking heads talking, but he does a great job of pissing people off.

agreed, although even Melrose is giving the Wings credit for their success in this series thus far. Maguire is horrible, hopefully the Wings will make him eat crow all playoffs. good start!

:rotflmao:

Pierre just annoys me more than anything. the intermission reports on nbc are some of the worst intermissions ive ever seen and his stupid segway's to Emerick are enough to make me puke.

I can take an announcer/color analyst picking a team. I guess its no different than the pistons announcers. However he is such a jack ass when he claims the wings are overrated because their old, and took points out of a weak central division. I'll give him Hasek and Chelios but were of average age after that. The central we barely went .500 against the division, and it is being represented by two teams in the playoffs. Just shut up and sit between the two benches in your little box like a little *****.

I love Pierre Maguire. He's fun to watch.

I agree..is it that bad to have a guy who is over passionate about the sport we love?

He was the reason behind the innovation of having a guy between the benches, he does good interviews and ask's good questions, him and Bob Mackenzie have connections in the hockey world that nobody else has. Does he say some stuff about the Wing's that some of us might not agree with? of course he does..but who cares..its his job to create some drama. You people talk about him like he's Osama or some other s***clown, the fact of the matter is Pee-yair is passionate and opinionated!!..is there really a big problem with that?

The guy seems to know a thing or two about international hockey, but good lord. He just over-analyzes and scrutinzes every little thing he can -- team chemistry, equipment problems, weird-ass trends. The dude just speculates about stuff he can't even be aware of, and doesn't provide interesting interviews in the least.

On the positive side, I've always liked Brian Engblom and Keith Jones -- both guys are really candid, comical, and straightforward with their comments.

Passionate? I never really sensed that with Pepe Mcguire. Pompousness and a self-inflated sense of his own hockey knowledge, yes, but not really passion. When you're sitting by yourself for 3 hours at ice level amongst a roaring crowd, you tend to sound loud - but that doesn't make you passionate. It just makes you an *******.

And what's innovative about the being between the benches? It is easily the worst development since the return of the NHL, and utterly creepy. Why in God's name is that alien engaging in conversation with Mike Babcock...on the power play...during a freaking game? It's frightening! Get the hell out of there. Wasn't it just 4 years ago when you were expected only to hear from an asst. coach between periods with John Keating? Now we've got that little runt literally standing in the Redwings bench in the midst of an actual game. I can only imagine the s*** the guys say about that guy.

And I thought it was his job to analyze the game candidly. The only way you can do that is in the booth, and that's the end of it. No between-the-benches hilarity. For all we know, NBC is outsmarting us by planning to put him right there inside the goalie nets. He can report all the flatulence and nefarious doings afoot in the face of the goalies *******. "Don, I think Dominik Hasek just pinched a loaf RIGHT ON MY FOREHEAD! IT'S UNBELIEVABLE! That's old time hockey! Call a timeout and commemorate this occasion, Babs! I'm one of the guys now!"

Here I sit, watching the first rounds most exciting matchup(WAS/PHI), and the effort and excitement brought by both teams is sullied by the mere presence of one Pierre Maguire.

First and foremost, the dude spends most of the time sandwiched between two benches. Nobody like you, dude. You're too much of a health risk with your dumbassitude in the booth, so they get you as far away from there as possible and you make a ****** out of yourself every time you attempt to conduct on-ice interviews. Hey, let's ask complicated english questions to Alexander Ovechkin! Brilliant!

Second, the dude might be the most pompous, arrogant bastard around. And it's unbelievable to fathom why. I mean, look at the guy. He'd be prison meat in a kindergarten class room. Him and John Clayton are proof that creepy little aliens came down and raped our wimmenz. And THIS guy has the balls to sit there and talk smack about every move a coach or player makes, and act as if everything he says is gospel and poignant? Kiss my sack.

Sorry, I'm sure this third-rate human being has been discussed around here before, but it boiled over for me when I saw his little douchey ass trying to discredit Mike Milbury on live TV. Oy.

alright, now tell us what you REALLY think..

hahaha...i dislike him immensely too, to tell the truth.

That struck me as thoroughly unnecessary as well.

Love the rant...please go on! :)

I disagree with all most of you.... I love what McGuire brings to a hockey broadcast.

Between the benches? Simply the progess of hockey broadcasts. When down there, he gives us a closer look at what is going on at ice level, particularly on the benches. I can remember many times where he mentions players that are hecklin each other, the mood on the benches, what coaches are saying during time-outs, a comment directed at him from a player sitting nearby, etc.....

A "self-inflated" hockey knowledge? This is the man that spend a few years with Scotty Bowman - the greatest hockey mind of all time.... and no, making negative comments towards the Red Wings or predictions that are wrong do not discredit his hockey knowledge..... it's an opinion.....

Glenn Healy, Milbury, Harry Neale are all worse than Pierre :D

Great post - you are ABSOLUTELY right!

Pierre McGuire is easily the BEST broadcaster on TV, period! He is extremely knowledgeable and gets into the game like no one I have ever seen.

You want to talk about a moron? Talk about Glen Healey. This is a man who does exactly what you are all complaining about....yells out random, stupid comments without having any proper justification to what he's claiming!

McGuire, on the other hand, understands the game better than most. And he's smart enough to fully explain every little thing whenever he's on American tv (because besides the fans in here, most Americans don't know too much about hockey).

I actually didn't overly like McGuire in his first season on tv because he constantly mumbled, but his knowledge has always been there. He brings a lot to the games that he calls.

I'm sure everyone in here would rather hear Mickey Redmond. Nothing personal against the guy, but this is someone who actually needs to be shown the exit door. He makes the most useless comments and miscalls half of the replays! It is people like him (and Terry Crisp and many other crappy colour commentators) that curb the popularity of the game in the states.

If you want to hear homerific comments then keep watching Mickey Redmond and all the other FSN ___ colour commentators. But if you like a knowledgeable person, who truly understands how the game works, who really gets into every game, then keep watching Pierre Mumbles McGuire.
