Do the AP writers have something against the Wings?

AP Game 6 recap.

The Detroit Red Wings are very talented. In Game 6 against the Nashville Predators, they were also lucky.

I know it's not much but it still bothers me.

There was no more luck in that game than happens in any sporting event.

I don't know. What does everyone else think?

Well I mean the first goal was a very huge bounce, literally lol. You can't argue that. But Mickey said Lidstrom did that deliberately, like, shot it up high with less on it to make it bounce and see if it woudl fool the goalie.

I'd love to really know if lidstrom deliberately tried to do that and get that kind of a bounce.

Either way, the wings were dominating the game and completely shutting down the Predators. It ain't like the preds were outplaying detroit, detroit throws one at the net and it bounces in, and they win after being outshot or something.

Who cares anyways. How often do we get to fly under the radar in the playoff picture? Not often. I say let them write that crap.

Who cares about them? The Wings were fortunate in a few ways certainly, especially the first goal. You have to be fortunately and lucky in any series, but the Wings more than showed they were good enough to capitalize on some luck.

It is wasted effort to get worked up about news stories or broadcasters, or lack of respect issues or whatever else. Let them write about their stories gracefully and let them be.

None of this changes the fact that the Wings were both lucky AND good enough to advance. Just enjoy that they are still playing.

Good to see you SWF.

I will say this, I agree. And I will also say I will take every goal from here to the cup being lucky, as long as we get to be the ones hoisting it at the end!

You should try reading the recap!

"I'm just trying to float one in there," Lidstrom said. "I took some off the shot just to see if I could land in front of him, just go for a bounce or just create something in front of him."

Last time I checked, when one team makes an intelligent play, and the other team can handle it, thats good hockey.

Everyone who isn't a wings fan is anti wings.

This is it exactly. The Red Wings are the evil empire. They have been so good the last 15 years that others are jealous. When the Wings lost game 4, I got text messages from various friends offering their "condolences". Funny how I haven't got one about the Wings since...

I think the better you are, the more people like to see you fall. So, when a team Like the Wings puts forth a really great effort and wins, the critics have nothing much to say. It's just AP, ignore it.

Game 6 wasn't won by luck, any more than any game ever is. Lidstrom is skillful, not lucky. It's not like we haven't seen him score on a 100ft shot before, right?

I wouldn't read too much into it. I think the writer was just using that line to preface into a description of the Lidstrom goal. But I do get sick of hearing that crap about the Wings being lucky etc... So I do understand how that can get to ya.

WOW so he really did try to do that. You gotta love Lidstrom. That's so cool...

Theres a good quote thats paraphrased to something along the lines of 'a good player makes his own luck', and if you look at this past series, the quote applies perfectly.

The media and Preds say we got a lucky goal because the linesman kept the puck in- well it was Datsyuk that pressured the defensman and cut off his options to nothing but shoot it up the boards- where the official happened to be, and it was Zetterberg who took advantage of the opportunity.

Then it was Draper who got a lucky bounce off a defensman's skate to put the puck in the net. I believe it was Wayne Gretzky that said you don't score 100% of the shots you don't take, and in a playoff grind, you don't get the pretty goals.

Then the game winner today from Lids- he had the opportunity to clear it, and instead of shooting it into the corners, he took his chances and shot it at the net, aiming for about 10 feet outside the goal line.

Yes luck had to do with all of these opportunities, but it was the Wings that catalyzed them to begin with.

Also- if the media is going to blame this series completely on luck, they're doing a fine job of forgetting about all the luck Nashville had in this series. Three different occasions where they got two goals past Hasek on generally weak shots in a 30 second margin. A goofy bounce from behind the net that goes right to an offensive stick. The fact that the Wings have hit multiple posts in each game this series and clearly dominated the gameplay where the score sheet says otherwise. Nashville had their bounces just like Detroit. The difference was only one team decided to take advantage of them.

I'll take all the luck we can get. Who cares?

And yes, Lidstrom's goal was pure, unadulterated, 100% luck. You'd have to have a red blindfold over top of your red goggles to claim otherwise. That's why they tell you "put it on net, you never know what might happen."

They probably should say that goal 1 was lucky but at the time, well deserved. From the 2nd period onwards we crushed Nashville but were unable to score. The goal was luck but surviving 1 minuted of 5 on 3 shortly thereafter was no luck at all.

We well deserved to win that game with that type of score.

And on a side note, gosh Kronners had a terrible game aside from that open ice hit. How many damn turnovers did he have???

Yes he did. He was asked that by Mickey via the channel 4 interview chick in the locker room. Nick said he wanted it to hit the ice before it got to Ellis.

It might have been a deliberate shot on Lids' part, but it was lucky that it worked and went in, just as he planned.

The Predators were the ones with the luck in this series - I mean, think about it...the Wings had at least 38 shots on goal in every game (except Game 3, where they only had 26) and the most goals they scored in the six games is 4. Ellis was outstandingly lucky in goal - if it wasn't for him, every game would have been a 5, 6 or 7-goal Wings victory. He kept them in every game and gave them a chance to win.

But regardless, every good team has to have some luck behind it. I don't care what people want to attribute the wins to - luck, skill, whatever - as long as the Wings keep winning, it doesn't matter to me.
