Tommie2 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 I agree with you - he's young Shanahan type of player (with less offensive skills - but still - he would look great in Detroit jersey...) been saying that for at least two years went pitt. said they had him on the blocks
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 Good point and very well constructed. I particularly like how you justified your answer. I'll counter this. Filppula is not even close to a $3m player. We're lucky if he deserves $2.75m five years from now; his realistic salary for his next deal should be between $1m and $1.5m. Anything more would be overpaying for him.

I don't believe he is a 3 million dollar a year player either. I think he would be happy with a little under 2 million. I think people may be a little paranoid about losing him. This kid is going to come out of his shell eventually and be a star. Hopefully he does it in a Wings sweater.
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Good point and very well constructed. I particularly like how you justified your answer. Lose the sarcasm, trying to act cool on a message board to gain respect from people you'll never meet truly shows the excitement level of your life. Being an assistant coach to a second rate college must be exciting. Normally i dont spend time on the obvious, but Fillpulla is not a 3 million dollar player. Maybe your high on him, but his stats this season were misleading. Despite a 10 goal flurry in 10 games, he had 9 goals the rest of the season, his defensive play is lax and is largly a myth generated by the dickriders on this site, and he is weak on the puck. Fillpulla will not get 3 million dollars a year until he fixs his inconsistancy, improves in overall talent, and shows he can support a line on his own, without Johan Frazen. Edit: I just checked your avatar. No wonder...... your almost as bad as the Hasek mayters. Edited April 29, 2008 by EZBAKETHAGANGSTA

Edit: I just checked your avatar. No wonder...... your almost as bad as the Hasek mayters. Yep, you caught me. I was trying to be as cool as the other side of the pillow! I wasn't trying to gain anyones respect. I have a gorgeous girlfriend who loves the Red Wings, full support of my family and fraternity and I'm just finishing up my senior year at one hell of a fun college! As the Flight of the Conchords say "be more constructive with your feedback" in regards to posts. But I do agree with you on this post though about why he shouldn't get 3+ Mil a year, except you question his defensive abilities and for most of the year he was in top 7 of +/- during the regular season in the NHL so I wouldn't say his defense was a myth. And my college internship is a third rate college internship by the way. It's a lot of fun and make fun of my internship all you want, but I get all expenses paid trips to Florida, San Diego, Boston, Chicago, and Texas; not a bad gig if I say so myself (not to mention it's for credits and I don't have to pay a dime.) It might behoove you next time to actually know what you are mocking.

WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Fillipulla will be lucky to get a million less than that. That is on a long-term contract; 4-5 years long-term. Kronwall got $3M/season last season over a 5-year deal, so what makes you think Filppula can't get 2.75 over a long-term deal? Try a former ohl draft pick of the Brampton Battalion who led his hs team to state semis this year and played vic honda, midget major, and lil ceasers triple A. EDIT: PM ME IF YOU DONT BELIVE ME I CAN GIVE U MY NAME AND U CAN GOOGLE ME. honestly I could care less. I have scouted plenty of talent in my day. And the last thing I want to see is some overrated kid and his over inflated resume, with with a sharp tongue and big attitude and image that believes he is better than he is. Update: I had a kind heart and went to the Barmpton Batallion ohl site, and noticed there isnt one player from Michigan, like your profile states. And for future reference, if you dont like what one posts on here, just keep going. Personal insults and attacks make you look ignorant and immature. Kronwall got $3M/season last season over a 5-year deal, so what makes you think Filppula can't get 2.75 over a long-term deal? Kronwall had been named the top defenseman at the world championships when he signed his deal. Kronwall was also two years older than Filppula will be, and Kronwall was a first round draft pick who is living up to his potential. People on here love Filppula, but realistically he's not on Kronwall's level as a prospect, nor is he as developed as Kronwall was when Kronner signed. RedFX 48 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 If Osgood finishes out the seasonas #1, Hasek's done (at least here). As much as the Wings really want Stuart back, I see him going somewhere else. If Stuart goes, I think Lilja will stay. Cheli will be back for one more. Downey's gone. It sucks but I'm thinking realisticly. Filpulla will be signed, but it will be at a much higher price Holland wants. I think Drake will retire. McCarty should be back for at least another year. Hartigan's gone. Stafford's a maybe. But considering our depth already at D, I wouldn't be suprised if he's gone Ericsson, Howard, Quincey will all be back. Quincey perhaps a one-way deal

I'd love to see Stuart in a Red Wing uniform for years to come.. Cheli should retire too. Filppula is replacable, no more than 1.75 or bye bye.

Shaman 713 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 Gone: Drake, Downey, Hartigan, Hasek Maybe Gone: Lillypad, if Cheli retires he'll be here because of Bab's man-love for him Maybe Gone: Cheli, if he is counted on for top 4 minutes I don't think he'll want to stay, if he knows he'll be the 5th or 6th D-man he'll stay Hopefully Staying: Stuart, Stafford (We need depth in GR) Staying: D-Mac>Drake, Downey, Hartigan, Stafford. We need him and he needs us. RFA: Goes: Quincey, I think he won't want to stay because he could get first team minutes somewhere else, so he'll ask for a bit more thna expected Stays: Flip, Howie, Big Jon E Others: Zata: he won't get a long term deal people, not with his reoccurring injuries, it'd be suicide to sign him to a long deal for management. Needless to say though i hope we sign him come July 1st to a 30 year deal haha Mule: He needs to be more consistent throughout the whole season, but he has shown his worth in the playoffs to get a nice 4-5 year deal Kopecky: I'm indifferent, we got JA, Helm who can do what he can, plus they don't get smoked every game like Koppy does. Totally disagree, despite his recurring injury hes the face of the Red Wings now, if he doesnt get a 5+ year deal i will eat my hat. Besides, if we dont sign him long term, someone else will... really want to be wrong and have Z play 82 games with Anaheim or San Jose?

Zetterberg is the future of this franchise and the only thing that would be suicide is letting him walk. He gets a big deal, my prediction is the biggest one in Red Wings history. jenova0 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 Who the hell are we letting Z walk for? For that $7 million, you won't find a better 2-way forward in the game; that isn't already on our team!
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 If there's one thing I have confidence in Holland in, it's that he'll get a deal done for guys like Z that pleases all parties involved. He made it happen for Datysuk, then got Homer done at a great price, has the best goalie at $1.5 million done for 3 years, kept Lids for well below what he could be asking for. I mean, sure, he's not perfect, but more often than not, he comes pretty close considering the real world doesn't function like the armchair GM's X-Box games.
