Forsberg Excuses, Sakic Attempt at kneeing Dats?

It's one thing to smart over a stinging loss to a long time rival, its another thing to make excuses, attempt dirty plays and be a hypocritical liar.

The ever amazing Forsberg had the nerve to say fellow countryman Samuelsson " Samuelsson sold the call definitely. He's laying there on the ice and I barely touched him"

I didn't realize I hit him, Forsberg said. But I guess he was bleeding so I guess I did hit him, so I have nothing to say. If he's bleeding, it's four minutes. I didn't think I hit him that hard.

In the report WINGS-AVS REPORT it mentions just before these quotes that "Forsberg was assessed a 4-minute penalty for high-sticking Samuelsson, who lost a tooth"

Well lets see, he was bleeding, lost a tooth, but you think he embellished it and you have nothing to say...like sorry, or i didn't mean it? Arrogant jerk. Also Forsberg should never be talking ever about a diver, even if he's correct...there might be a tad hypocracy in his criticism.

The Floppa thing is typical, BUT this Sakic thing really caught me off guard. -THE MAIN POINT OF THIS POIST- DID YOU GUYS SEE THIS? I wish I had recorded the game so I could have posted the incident on Youtube.

I have always liked Sakic but I caught something out of the right corner of my eyes somewhere around the beginning of the third period in game 3 vs. the AVs. Datsyuk was skating towards the boards and Sakic looked right at him, sped up without taking his eyes of Dats...and stuck out his knee as Datsyuk swerved out of the way to avoid the dangerous collision. I rewound it in High Def 3 times with friends over, and none of us could believe the play, and the fact noone on TSN said anything about it. I initially thought i had seen it wrong, but upon review there is no room for error, this was deliberate. It may be out of character, just like the AVs recent 3 game performance, but that is no excuse for an attempt to injure.

Also someone needs to stop Foote and Laperriere from the cheap shots from behind and the cross checks and high sticks...even the guy on TSN (who hates the Wings) said, "Adam Foote just got away with a flagrant high stick? Get out of here, not Adam Foote?" (sarcasm)

I know its not nice to lose, but you shouldnt act like a loser in doing it.

GO WINGS!

I wish I could tell you. I usually record every playoff game on my Bell crappy PVR, but last nights game started in crappy regular resolution on TSN's alternate feed due to the OT between Dallas and SJ on the main TSN feed and I didnt bother recording the remainder of the game that was in HD.

I would have to say maybe between 5 minutes to halfway through the third? On the screen Datsyuk was travelling from the center of your screen toward the bottom and to the right so as to change lines. Sakic was near the blue line, entering center ice...at a slow speed...he looked at Datsyuk taking his time going over to the bench. Sakic sped up, watching Dats the whole way, and upon getting 3 feet from him starting turning toward the left of your screen with his left knee stuck way out. Datsyuk then did his little body deke and got away from the knee barely. The puck had left that area of the ice already by 3 seconds or more...which would have made this interference at best...and a knee to knee might have been costly.

I just couldnt believe super Joe would do something like that.

I'm going through it right now like a hawk, and I can't find it. Possible the FSN feed didn't have it in frame, line changes are usually on puck dumps and FSN's cameras follow the puck. They don't focus on the line change.

You are right...and wrong.

I looked over the footage, and yes, at with about 15:14 remaining in the 3rd, keep an eye on Sakic as he attempts to take out FRANZEN's knee.

It's painfully obvious. What a little *****.

With 15:15 left, you'll see the dump in. From then on, watch the bottom of the screen as Franzen turns up and you'll see an Av come into frame.

With about 15:08 left, you'll see the incident.

As Franzen turns at the blueline, Sack of s*** does exactly what you said-- he revs up and sticks out the knee.

I hold Sakic as exceptionally revered and refuse to believe he'd do something so classless. I will need to see a video before I can draw any conclusions on this being intentional.

One play does not a classless player make. Yes it's horribly dangerous, yes it's really stupid, but my bet is that in the heat of the moment Sakic probably just did it without thinking. I am by no means condoning said action, I'm just saying you can't take away everything the guy's done because of one boneheaded play.

i shall reserve all judgment, as i always do, until i have seen the video. but i have heard no mention of this until seeing it on LGW.

i hope for hockey's and sakic's sake that it is a misinterpretation of the play. (not that any of you are liars, but maybe he was looking away from franzen as he was making a turn or something. im just trying to stay optomistic as sakic is the ONE player on the avs i tolerate as he has been a decent ambassador for the sport).

thank god whatever the case is, that franzen escaped contact.

I think you're looking into it way too much.

EDIT: ok ya it was pretty much nothing. They skated right by each other if Sakic did something, than I am sure there would have been some kind of physical reaction by Franzen.

if anything it looks like sakic kinda jumped back out of the way to avoid the collision.

i see nothing that looks cheap shot-ish. just a hockey play i'd never think twice about.

"If franzen didn't have his head up, that would have been the end of his playoffs if not next year. There was no reason Sakic should have done that. *Respect down*"

i simply do not understand how one could ascertain that sort of a conclusion from the video i just saw.

but hey. to each his own. no hit. nothing blatantly obvious that would show the league malicious intent to injure. life goes on...

Sakic is a dirty goon. Lilja should jump him the next game and pound his face into the ice until blood starts rushing from Sakic's head.

Does that sound like an overreaction to anyone? :hehe:

Not to me.

Since there was no injury...lol a little...however if he had connected and taken Franzen out for the playoffs with a bum knee, he should have a suspension...and maybe one fight coming to him from a similar player...

I do feel this was deliberate, however its just one play in an otherwise exceptional career. I havent lost all respect for him or anything....i just am pissed at this incident and hope it doesnt resurface. I think Joe must be extremely frustrated and acting out of character.

My mistake, I guess it was Franzen, not Datsyuk.....but right now Franzen is our MVP, it would have been disastrous if he had connected.

Ths FOX Detroit feed was from the other side of the ice than TSN i think. It was far more clear, close up, and from the opposite side of the ice maybe on TSN. On HD we rewound it and we looking right at Sakic with his knee coming right out at Franzen....but whatever, noone was hurt, thats the main thing.

I would like to think it was a harmless play, but watching Joe lining him up from across the ice last night in HD, it looked like there was nothing but deliberate action.

Overlook this one, but if there is another similar attempt, even if he doesnt connect...bye bye respect for one of my fav players.

No goon tactics on either side.....Wings in 4!

I think Liljas place with the team is doing fine right now, filling the water bottles and washing the jockstraps :D

I'm glad somebody could find the time, because I could have watched that third period 100 times over, I would have never found that. I simply don't see what you're seeing I guess. That play looks nothing out of the ordinary to me.

I played it in super slow motion and all I saw were two players turning towards the inside of the ice, Sakic trying to get to the left of his puck carrier so he can fly up the left side. Franzen was focused on the puck carrier and wasn't looking where he was going, he shouldn't have to. I didn't see Sakic make a beeline, I saw him trying to skate up ice faster so he could join the rush.

Also, if you watch it in super-slow-motion like I did, it looks like Sakic is trying to avoid the hit, not make it. If he doesn't jump forward at the last second it is a collision.

Kind of funny how I took a Sakic cheapshot attempt and turned it into a "thank god for Sakic jumping out of the way" but in my eyes that is exactly what happened there.

It's probably the awkwardness of the near-collision that got you thinking otherwise.

We need to worry alot about the next game - and if the Wings are up late in the game - look out! Q will totally try to goon it up (Blues anyone?). If he cannot beat us on the ice, they'll attempt to rough us up. I would like to think if you get your ass kicked on the ice the way the Avs are, you could just take it like men and realize you lost to the better team - but I have to say I don't really trust this bunch. Hopefully we'll be up in the third and DMac and Drake will be seeing alot of ice time!
